10:45 I always took that as a "he knows." How could he not, really? I can suspend disbelief on the whole "how do people not recognize Bruce's jaw or mouth?" thing, the mind plays tricks on you. But your own daughter? And not just part of her face, but the red hair, the voice, everything? If you were her parent, and had spent most of the previous 18, 19, 20 years seeing her nearly every single day, looking after her, doting on her, thinking about her, there's just no way you wouldn't recognize her. Maybe not instantly, but I can't imagine Jim didn't pick up on it after more than a handful of encounters.

Yeah I've always taken that as confirming that he knows. He doesn't want her to say it because he needs plausible deniability.

After the death of Turpin on Superman the DCAU really didn’t hold back. As an episode it just shows the worst fear of not just Batgirl but the fear of the Bat-Family Gordon losing his faith in Batman leads to the ruin of him and his allies and in his desperation he hires Bane of all people to hunt him. That ending was so heartfelt it means Gordon does know about Barbra as Batgirl and by extension who Batman, Robin, and Nightwing are as we saw in the nightmare he figured out who Bruce was real quick. Even still if Gordon does go through with it he’d also have to arrest Barbra for being an accomplice to Batman and he can’t for the greater good.

Don't blame on Batman for this lol Barbara was warned not to join the bat family in the first place for her own risk but she chose to be Batgirl when she was in college. She's already an adult and she made that choice. It was up to Barbara either she want to tell her father the truth about her double life or keep it as a secret, so that Jim wouldn't be worried or over protective. It's not Batman's place to say, he had to respect Barbara's decision. Btw, loving your reaction so far!

I saw this once as a kid and I'm surprised at how much I remember. It was one of my favorite episodes
@TheMorlun2 күн бұрын
Gordon pretty much always knows. If you remember Year One, the whole 'I'm blind without my glasses' is an obvious lie, he almost always acts more protective around Batgirl and in old comics Barbara actually revealed her identity to him and he went: "Yeah, I always knew. Go be a senator." He refuses to 100% knowledge so the higher authorities won't force him to arest Bats and Co.
@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps2 күн бұрын
_"He refuses to 100% knowledge so the higher authorities won't force him to arest Bats and Co."_ Not knowing their identities is a non-factor in that. I think it's more that he could pass a polygraph when asked directly. In this canon, he can literally say "I've seen Bruce Wayne and Batman stand right next to eachother." "I've suspected lots of people over the years. For all I know Batman's somebody's secret identical twin."
@super_nurd2 күн бұрын
This episode really stuck with me as a kid. To the point that when I was in college and had a friend that never saw a single Batman episode this was the first one I showed him. He was mind blown by the episode and was just "what is this show?!" And the staff has 100% confirmed that Gordon knows. Saying stuff like it would've been insulting to Gordon's character if he didn't piece it together by now, and that final conversation was his way of keep pretending he didn't know.
@milkiassamuel7802 күн бұрын
This might be one of the darkest episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, with many implications that could become reality in the DCAU if things took a tragic turn. BTW I can't get over how Bane's design in Season 4 straight up looks like he's wearing a gimp suit😂

I think the ending is about interpretation: My interpretation is that Gordon does not know, and therefore, he is not choosing to trust Batman, he is reminding Barbara that he trusts her, for Gordon, it doesn't matter what she's doing because he knows she's doing the right thing, she's capable, smart and more importantly, good (even more than Batman himself)

Gordon can't own up to really knowing since Batman and Co. are vigilantes operating outside the law. So he stops her from telling him because that leaves him plausible deniability if anyone ever insists on knowing what he knows to arrest them.
