It seems like they need family therapy. He brings up her not driving him to school but driving the other son and her reply is to sweep it under the rug, and complain he complains. Clearly it represents the inequality he feels and that the step son got preferential treatment. Whether that is the case or not, he was the child and they obviously didn't make him feel equally valued or supported by his parents. I say parents because the father should either have stepped in to match what she did for her bio son, or made her treat his bio son more equally. He may also be focusing on a tangible example when really he didn't feel appreciated or valued in his teen years. Either way he would benefit from family therapy.
