Shearon Harris Big Bass Buzzbait Bash

Decided to do some bass fishing at Shearon Harris on March 27. The fish were still in the early stages of spawning and were currently flooding to the bank in order to do so. I picked up a trusty buzzbait and went to work and was rewarded in quick order with a 5lb bass. This clued me in to what the fish were doing and how they were set up, and I built on that throughout the entire day. I ended up catching 18 fish, with 5 of them being close to or over 5lbs, along with bunches of 1-3lbrs in the mix. Got to give it to the Old Town Bigwater for being the track star that it is and allowing me to cover tons of water very quickly in order to find the productive stretches of water that held the fish. I will maintain that it is the fastest pedal drive kayak on the water and that has always been a huge part of allowing me to find and catch as many fish as I do! ‪@OldTownCanoeKayak‬ #adventureliveshere

I think they pulled up with the warm rain and dingy water Sat and Sunday, because they would have been caught of they were up there on Sat!

@Whamfishing agreed, the fish I saw Friday were staged in the middle and a few on the opening leading into coves. I was banking on them to move in on tourny day.... almost skunked caught a dink with 20 left on the clock

Looks like your day was the ticket! I'd be glad I missed the tournament to have the day you had as my "consultation." I live in Clayton, NC and the biggest bass I've caught since I've lived here is 2lbs. 8oz.'s. Looks like I really need a Kayak to better my life. Enjoy your channel. Especially since you live within an hour of my home.

That was my best day out there this year! A kayak certainly helps, it doesn't have to be an expensive one either, it make it much more fun to be able to get out and around on the lake!

Thanks! It can be tough sometimes but it has them in there! Should be plenty still up shallow, I'd break out the frogs and other things that can be worked slow over spawning areas. Let us know how it goes!

Outstanding video you just gave me hope, I am moving really close to that lake next week to SW section of Holly springs. Moving from the beach, so I thought my tournament kayak fishing was over. Guess I’ll have to transition my top water Reds to those green fish. Do you ever throw skitter walks or spooks for bass????

Oh yea, both of those will work for bass! Bass will eat pretty much all the same baits that you fish for reds with. Swimbaits, top waters, etc!

Awesome, I saw you fishing out of a old town, I use to do a lot of fishing out of a old town predator had it loaded down with electronics. Kept going skinnier and skinnier water till it was practical, so I sold it. Now I literally just drove 8 hours to get 1 of 5 of the last bigwaters they have for sale at West Marine. It’s worth the drive though the have it on sale for 1750 but giving it to me for 1600 because the rudder is broke half way down. First thing I was going to do anyways was replace with the aftermarket aluminum one anyways lol.

What's your top speed on the bigwater when you have to cover water fast? I cannot push mine much over 5mph with all out effort. Some guys say they get 6-7 mph somehow.

I can get 5.5 if I push it, I can only maintain it for a tiny bit though. Usually 4.5 is a steady pace that I can maintain for a while. Idk how people would be getting 7 without a motor or anything lol everything is measured on my Solix so it should be pretty accurate.

NIce, Ive been wanting to try Harris. Can I ask where you launched? I was worried kayaks would get run over by the big boats there. Or is there a kayak launch?

Crosspoint has a kayak launch area, but I usually fish out of Holloman, I wait my turn and back the kayak in off the truck bed. Usually everyone is pretty respectful. During the summer the lake does get crazy with ski boats and things like that, but most other places do too so I just put up with it lol come June or so give me a shout and we'll meet up and go out there

It was a Scottsboro Tackle Zodiac buzzbait that's made for a tackle shop in Alabama. It's similar to the Greenfish Hammerhead buzzbait

I usually use Holloman ramp on the upper end, occasionally go to Crosspoint but that's usually in the winter
