Yes! I was found to be abused, manipulated, and neglected meanwhile my father, mother, grandparents, and more died over a few short years. She didn’t care. Used and weaponized my vulnerability and children against me. And still I get punished for helping myself. It puts a new perspective on women as a whole for me. It will never be the same for me. Every single time I opened up and was vulnerable it was used against me. Every. Single. Time. That's what men learn. Nobody is telling us that we can't, but they are telling us through their actions that it is detrimental. I have found a group of men that I can talk to, and I use that support. But I don't think I will ever be able to open up to another woman that way. It's too painful.

I watched my husband cry many times. He feels peoples pain and it makes me admire his merciful heart... He had cancer and couldn't fully provide.. i just went and applied for food stamps and found help quietly so he didn't need to worry. I told him how proud i was to have such a great lover, father and husband. He's wheelchair bound and struggles with chronic pain and we'll be married 40 years soon. He's a good man ... Growing in his faith and praying for the world's pain all the time Not every man is harmed by women. All three of my daughters love him utterly ... Even when he cries. Btw. One daughter buys her brothers Valentine's candy and a rose on Valentine's. She wants the guys to know they get love too. I think maybe that's what girls should do on Valentine's Day. This song brings me to tears every time I hear it, because I’ve lived it. This song actually inspired me to seek help for my own mental health. I think it’s incredibly sad and pathetic how men’s mental health is treated. You only need to look at statistics, suicide rates for men is 3 times higher than that of women, and instead of asking if we’re ok, we’re told that we need to suck it up and stop being babies. Sadly that message has been said to men mostly by women. We’re told to be vulnerable and share our feelings and emotions, but when we do it ends up being weaponized and used against us. It needs to change.

We are not seeking to be allow to cry more, we are not trying to pass off the role of protector, or provider. We care about being treated with respect and appreaction for what we do and the way we conduct ourself, that's it. The saddest part is that so many men live without even though it cost nothing to provide respect or appreaction.

I see a lot of women reacting to this song on youtube, and they still don't seem to get it. I think the fundamental disconnect is that they think that we're like them, that we're the same. But we're not. We're very different. I don't think they get it.
@Obake352
@Obake352 Жыл бұрын
@mr.mayhem4054 That is a huge difference that not only women forget, but society as a whole forgets. Most men instinctively know that men and women think differently. Many women, on the other hand, expect everyone to inherently understand their world view and style of thinking. Not to say men are "smarter" or anything. We just know when we don't know, generally speaking.

I’m so glad I can be my husband’s safe place, locking out the world in our home. We celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on August 25, 2024. I love him unconditionally. We’ve been homeless together, we’ve battled issues big and small, we’ve lost grandparents and parents, even babies of our own. I was by his side after a serious motorcycle accident that left him unable to walk on his own for months. And seeing his struggle with PTSD after multiple combat deployments reinforced the knowledge that he was my person. It helps that we both have PTSD from different things, so I understand the triggers and the response. My heart hurts that our sons may never find their ONE. 💔

For a guy, there’s a time and a place to be vulnerable and it’s not usually at the same time everyone else can. He’s got to make sure his family makes it safely through the tough times before he can tend to his own wounds. But by then, everyone has moved on and it looks like he’s the one that’s clinging to the past because he sacrificed this grieving time to be strong for his family so they don’t disintegrate like many families do during and after a crisis.

Brother, you hit the nail on the head. My SO tends to express hurts and frustrations in incredibly hurtful and attacking ways, and I have to simply swallow the pain, screaming internally while showing unreciprocated unconditional love and support. If I try to share any emotions I might be feeling at the time, it's viewed as self-centered disregard. If I try to talk about it later, I'm just a jerk bottling everything up to "use it against them later". I've tried talking to them about it a few times, telling them I'm perfectly happy to set my feelings aside to support them if that's what they need... just let me know when a constructive time would be for me to talk about my feelings... The only response was to run in circles avoiding an answer. I'm left with but two options: 1) accept that my feelings, no matter how neutrally they're expressed, will always be met with vitriol, or 2) bottle everything up indefinitely.

My Dad worked three jobs when my brother, sister, and I were young. Days, nights, and weekends. He kept this up until I went into the seventh grade. After that, he worked sixty hours at one job when he became the boss. I never saw him get emotional until I was in my forties and my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. It shocked me to see him get upset because, up until that day, he was a machine. I'm now in my sixties and my Mom has beat cancer but sadly my Dad has passed. Now I do the same. I rarely show how upset I am until the sh!t hits the fan. Circle of life, as Dax said. Hard work, success, and responsibility have always been my focus, and I'm unsure if I'll ever know any other way to live. "To Be A Man" hits hard and has me thinking about my father and his sacrifices. Great song that I hope many men get to hear and like me think about.

As a man, I wanna take the opportunity to say that in this song Dax breaks down word for word what it is like to be a man, we go through our life knowing that we are replaceable, knowing that our worth is measured by what we do, and when we can't do enough we hurt, but we can't show our hurt because we are relied on to be strong, we are not allowed to break even when we are broken, we have to keep it together, bottle it up, drink from another bottle of spirits, pack that shit down and move on, we are not loved unless we provide, and from the day we are born we are taught that our worth comes from what we can provide, I have been broken countless times, but every time I gotta keep my shit together, I can't stop because I have to keep going, and when I'm out of work I beat myself daily behind closed doors, just because at that point, I had lost my worth. And when he says about the unconditional love, and how when we find a woman we give our last name we feel the only reason they stay is for what we can provide, and honestly it's true, it feels like nobody cries for us until the day we are gone, and when we are gone it's too late to know it.

I understand why you think men should be able to be vulnerable but it's not acceptable for a man. Society will eat him alive. For the longest time I didn’t feel that I had any right to cry or ask for help. I looked around as I was growing up and saw the men at church who never wavered and were always able to help and be dependable and I felt that I should follow their way of life completely. This also included my father. They were men that I couldn’t follow closely enough when it came to knowing how to do different things(build stuff, take care of business, etc.) I was young and I understood the fact that I hadn’t reached my full potential, but learning what my dad did when he was younger than I was and what he went through to reach his level of success made me think about the fact that I was a failure that couldn’t match up. It wasn’t neglect that formed this mindset, instead it was my own mind that started to dig my grave. I lived in that hole for about 8 1/2 years, while I was desperately trying to show that I could be his equal and live up to the expectations that I made up in my own mind. Perfection is a level that no human can possibly reach and yet I tried using that as my marker. I did well in school and sports(my dad said I did better than even he did), but I just couldn’t see it that way and whatever I did was never good enough to myself. This lasted from 5th grade until my second year of college. I was never good enough and I was the only person who ever said it. Of course this lead to thoughts of suicide because I knew then and there that I would never be able to reach where I wanted to be. I found that everything that I did was pointless and would eventually lead to nothing when I was gone, so I stopped caring. I didn’t go to therapy and I didn’t ask for help. I didn’t feel I deserved to cry even whilst I was alone because it was a waste on someone like me. After coming back from college after playing college ball for the first 2 years, I left the team. This brought me to my breaking point because that’s never the way anyone would want to leave a sport that they loved to play before. It got to the point where I stopped showing any emotions at all cause why would it matter what I did or showed? The point where my parents really started making me consider therapy was when my grandparents died(2 of them, 1 in each side of the family). I went to both caskets and didn’t show much as show a grimace, however, I didn’t realize this was my reaction. I was sad that they were gone, but couldn’t allow a failure like myself to express anything at the time. After I started going to therapy, I finally told someone what I’ve been doing to myself. It was also the first time in years where I shed a few tears. It felt like a weight was slowly getting lifted off me as I continued to go. I started joking around with my folks more and telling them what I thought. I’m much better than I was before and the only people who I have to thank for that are my parents. If you are feeling the same way, just know you aren’t alone and you are not a failure. You may fail many times and some may seem like the biggest screwups of your life, but just know that these small failures in life can lead you where you want to go. You just have to keep trying. If you read this, I hope you have a good day.

as a single father of 3 girls this song hits deep in my heart ,i have played it for my kids to help them understand the burdens a father carries in silence ,so when they get older they will help instead of expecting the man to provide everything

Perfect maybe one day we can fight the expectations that they want to leave us in and not think twice about but let everyone open their minds more then they are told to do from he she and them cause it's only what we provide and it really shouldnt be that way at all where is our females that grew up with us through rough times and know us even if you didn't grow with us don't get side tracked and grow with the real ones.. and don't be scared cause if them evil doers u know the evil doers that pull u aside and whisper in your ear "cause this guy did this and this and that" don't get side tracked ladies

I feel this so much. I kept all pains in until I almost gave up a few months ago. Luckily I caught myself and got help before reaching that point. That really opened my families eyes to my struggles and a lot of it has gotten so much better. My feelings are valued more now. Open up guys we deserve to vent to. Don’t wait till it’s too late

Can't argue with his take. It is tough being a bloke and expected to be almost an emotional statue with no thought to 'our' needs. 52 years old and blessed with 3 girls who don't freak when I cry (I do alot !) Men and women are different, but we are emotionally the same. Just some takes on that are given more providence and attention.

Sir i just want you to know that i appreciate you sir. I know we haven't met but i can tell you are a great father to your daughters. My father of late i have realised is my hero too. I sometimes feel like he lives his life for me. My sister and mom have never considered his pain and struggles. I wouldn't be here without my dad. As a young adult, I'm really struggling to find purpose and reason. I struggle with so many demons including severe depressive disorder and anxiety. And my dad in his 60s tells me not to worry. Because he'll always take care of me. My mother doesn't even know the man i am. The conflicts that exist in my heart are conflicts I'm not sure i can ever resolve. As a son, i just wanted you to know, you're a good man. A good father.

@@surreshguhan6033 Sir if you need to talk or just sound off then please contact me. No judgement. Alot of being a "man" is dealing with the shadow of your father and your heritage. But don't let it define you. Again, reach out if you need to talk. Love to you all.

I think you understand Dax's take.. but you are very lucky and privileged to be raised to show emotion. MANY men grew up with their dad showing no real emotion around his family and lived to provide. Dads that worked over time every waking moment to put food on the table. This song broke me when I first heard it. I recognize my dad's shortcomings and I proactively try every day to not make the same mistakes as him with my kids in this regard, but those qualities still come up often because it's inherited from my upbringing. I envy you!

@@bankruptsee Thank you sir. I agree with your take and, to clarify, my Dad was violent, abusive and a drunk. Ironically I learnt what NOT to do as a Father! Guess it can work both ways. Thank you for the comment and be a man forever. Whatever that even means! :)

I listen to his music 24/7 because of how relatable it is. Aside from this one the other two i can TRULY relate to is: "Joker's return" and "Depression" because of these specific lines: "Everyone's an expert on everything except themselves" and " I took the cards they delt and theres nothing I can change so when I'm by myself, i just pray for brighter days" relatable %100

I did this. I tried to open up about my feelings and struggles to my wife, and i can tell you she used it as one of the many reasons to end our 4 years marriage. I dont blame her, at the time, I couldn't provide for my family the way I should have. Today things are better for me, I wish she had stayed a little bit longer, but its fine, life goes on. I honestly believe dax is so spot on in this song!

Hang in there man. I’m going through this now, where opening up is extremely one-sided and accountability is sparse. It leaves you stuck with your feelings and they just bottle up inside you. I’m praying God brings you comfort and surrounds you by other men you can confide in.

Don't let anybody persuade you otherwise, but a wife should stay with her husband when things get hard and he is trying to make ends meet and finding a stable long term solution. It takes years to gain stability which is why only spoiled victimhood females leave.

Me personally as being married for 6 years this November I can honestly say my wife is with me not cause what I provide at least financially cause she makes more than I do, but for love and our 2 children. But with that said my heart goes out to the men that feel the way Dax feels and says in this song, it’s a very important video and needs to be seen and heard.

As a man, there is no time to cry. When you do, you lose that respect, and depression starts to kick in. At least that's how it feels to be a man. I lost a lot of brothers this way. Ps his alcohol song helps me cope with being sober every day. His songs hit the heart.
