Pretty impressive, young man. Been toying with picking up 10 acres north of Greenville, and doing this exact thing for our retirement. Have 156 acres and a big house, and its getting to be too much. Life seems like it would be more simple and less stressful if we downsized a bit. Again, nice damn job !

So we start with huge houses that dwindle down into what is now known as the tiny house movement, and looking at these " She'd to house" homes, we're slowly going back up in home size which, is where we started out in the first place. Anyway you two are doing an amazing job and I'd buy one of your homes in a heartbeat. 2 THUMBS UP

I think that it's funny going through the comments on here. Most folks haven't stopped to think about the fact that a "normal" house say 1500sqf. Was considered to be a large home/house not to long ago. People forget that for thousands of years people lived in one room huts that may have been around 100sqf to 200sqf. I've seen plenty of original homestead houses where 10 kids were raised be very small (if not extremely small). In less than a hundred years people's mindsets have changed. So I applaud you and your brother for doing this.

Like I said a bit ago this home is the best one I have ever seen !! Omg a shed , this is a mansion to me !! We have family who live right outside of Terrell Texas another nice place in a state we plan on moving to in about 2 years ( maybe sooner) bringing our 401ks to buy some land and plant down roots. I am a native west Virginia resident, so was my great , great grandparents, my hubby is a naturalized citizen from Mexico city, he has been in the United states 36 years and we have been married 31 years raised 3 sons. Our grandkids are almost all grown up except 1 . West Virginia is a beautiful state but living only 50 miles about 40 minutes by train from Washington D.C. ppl are running from high taxes and traffic in Va and Maryland and Pa and bringing there crazy liberal views here and messing up our beautiful state !! I promise when I move to big and beautiful Texas I will not bring any craziness only a good heart and mind my business. God bless all of you and as i have said , your home is gorgeous. All of you are amazing !!

Ok awesome work. Suggestion putting in three mini split a/c units. One for each bedroom and living room. Also you ca putt rn three burner propane stove with oven. They measure about 14 inches wide 14 inches deep and 24 high. They drop right into the countertop. Again time money. I pulled my stove out of my Rv now workshop and placed it I. My small cabin kitchen. Can bake a pizza or a good size chicken. Has 4 burners. Been using it for like eight years E Z P Z. Same with mini splits. Individual temperature control.

No stove is a great idea as they're just a pain to keep clean and they take away from usable counter space. When I built the kitchen in our hanger I purposely did not install a stove/oven but opted for using a couple hot plates, toaster oven, electric skillets, crockpots, microwave, a deep fryer, pizza cooker, and most important a good BBQ grill. I lived with that setup for 22 years and never once missed not having a stove/oven. If I ever remodel the kitchen in my house I'm getting rid of both the stove and dishwasher.

The wood accent wall for the fireplace and the wood ceiling in the dormer above the entry turned out amazing!!! Looks like it’s magazine ready really. I was wondering tho about the wood. I know you said you used cedar but is it rough cut or smooth finish and did you stain it or use a sealer of any type? Did you use tongue and groove, shiplap, or plain cedar boards? I’m in process of putting wood on my ceilings in my living room, dining room, and kitchen and I really like the look of yours. Doing a fantastic job, take care

1. Save up money. The cabin shell in the video cost $17,500. They plan on doing all the work themselves and estimate the final cost to be $45,000. 2. Look for affordable land (odds are it will be in the country). 3. Talk to a local code enforcer to find out what codes the cabin will need to follow and take notes. Building codes differ by location. 4. Get a company to build a foundation for the cabin. The foundation in the video is roadbase. Cinder blocks raise the cabin off the ground. This protects the bottom of the cabin from moisture. 5. Get a company to build the cabin for you following the codes. The cabin in the video was built by a Derkson Dealer in Texas. Even better if the company does the electrical wiring and plumbing. If the company does not, you will need to hire someone else who does. The land you choose may not have access to the public sewer system. If it does not, you would need to get a septic tank installed. 6. If you can do some of the labor yourself (like running electric and installing foundation, installation, and finishings) or know someone who can help you, it cuts down the cost a lot. Labor costs are expensive. I have been researching doing this myself. I hope to make it happen in the near future!

You all must not be identical twins, huh?? You guys have made a real nice house. What I want to know is, how does the county treat a shed to a house? Here where I live you can put a shed on your property that sits on blocks, no poured footing. But I don't think they would go for living in one. Does the county have some ruling about using one for a house?

OK, cause I was talking to my wife and she was tellin me about a woman she knows who had contact the county folks here and she said they don't give a rat rectum, as long as it is built using 4X4/skids and it sits on cinder blocks, not a permanent foundation. Kinda crazy. can live in a shed but if its permanent, then they gotta inspect every damn thing in the world. Hell if I had known that. when I moved here I would have gone the shed route, instead of building a house that cost a hell of a lot more. My hind parts don't care where they sleep. I can't help but notice that the larger the "tiny homes" become you start to realize just how much space we begin to waste. I thought a 8' x 16'-18'-20-etc to 32' was always to narrow regardless of how long it is. But, that's to meet highway specs for unrestricted travel. The more sensible design for a feeling of comfort & full size features such as appliances of what a "home" represents is not what's regarded as a tiny home. 8' wide is really a glorified travel trailer. The water, electrial connections are for RV connects & that's understandable. So, since I live in a 800+sq ft home I can honestly say 250-350 sq ft is not being utilized because it's designed for a dining table or China cabinet, etc. I believe if u account for the sq ft practically used & with multiple purposes used daily I would say 150 sq. ft for each bedroom with closet included & a over the top loft for 1-2 children depending on ages. And given a 100 sq ft for both kitchen & living room & u have 1-1/2 bathroom. Thus a 3-4 member family could be comfortable in a 500+/- sq ft home. A 14'-16' x 40' is really all we need for a families needs & I notice that most of these sheds are about $13k+/-. With the payments listed on a 4-5 year plan it's still cheaper than a full size fixer upper & payments nearly the same even with the fixer upper on a 30 year note. The importance of this assessment is that it would really help this younger generation to try & budget to save the $13k needed to pay for the shed in cash that way by owning the bones of the home a "Interior renovation" should be easily obtained @ a low interest rate to build out your finished home. My hope in all of this is that Financial institution will recognize these designs not as travel trailers or Mobil homes but regular houses & be willing to finance them over a 25+ year term. The Financial burden on this countries younger generation would not be forced to pay both 30k-100k student loans & a large home mortgage.

the reason why tiny homes are such a draw is because current home prices are exorbitantly priced. investors and flippers snatch them up slap a coat of paint on them and sell them for huge profits. not to mention 20 years people were buying homes for half of what they cost now even more in some places. we don't need tiny homes, the market needs to come down because it's ridiculous. no one can afford a home.

whitter86 In my neighborhood the houses *used to* be in my price range. Now all these affluent kids in their 20s are moving here, buying properties with their trust funds, then flipping them/selling for a price I will never be able to afford. And who's buying them? Other rich kids from out of state.

Exactly. What's worse is the companies out there that are building the new homes are just building generic shells. I recently went house hunting with my sister and some of the new homes we looked at were very basic. Neutral cabinetry cheap fixtures and overall design of the home was simply distasteful. It reminded me of how a military housing edition would be setup. How can a person, who is spending already too much on a brand new home expect to sell something later on when they aren't even starting with the most basics of a good home? Already the homeowner is losing money since they will have to upgrade all their cabinetry, fixtures, etc. I blame the fact that the current society mentality is that everything is disposable so now we are making disposable homes. It's really going to kill the appreciation value of a modern home.

Kinda funny people bitching about prices but this thing will end up costing more than if you just bought a 16x50 mobile home, in fact you could get a bigger one. That is essentially what this is, an unfinished mobile home. I can't see where this tiny home movement is any cheaper. Price depends on location, if people spent time looking around, they could get something much nicer for the same amount of money. It'll be sorta hilarious in 10 years when these millennials get tired of living in such a confined space ( I am referencing true tiny homes here, this is NOT a tiny home).

Wrong Whitte, We need small homes because of energy prices and waste. I chose a 12x25 being a single man, but it's still big enough for 2. It costs $50 a month for all electricity, including A.C. and heat. No more $200 electric bills for Me. Plus the base building was under 5k, no mortgage whatsoever. My total monthly expenses are $150 including cable, Internet and electricity. It makes living on a small income possible.

An induction cook top would work better, and it's more energy efficient. I have one in my RV so I don't heat up the inside of it with the gas stove. I also purchased a GE induction range for my home. I love it.

Are you sure you are building to code? What happens if an inspector comes one day and says its not? From what I heard, they can even take your kids away if your house isn't to code, as CPS will say its child endangerment (because if there's a hurricane or fire or the electrics aren't to code, they can say its a safety hazard to live in).
