SHED RACING - 250 Cal Spyder: The Full S.P.

For my international subscribers, 'the Full S.P.' is a British phrase, meaning the lowdown, the full story. Apparently it has its origins in horse racing, where it stands for the starting price.
Anyway, this video covers the background of the red car we are going to use in Italy. It was done by Suzie's Dad, Stephen, a Ferrari fanatic, who owned and cherished original Ferrari California Spyders (both SWB and LWB) back when they weren't astronomically expensive and you could actually use and enjoy them. Given he'd owned numerous Colombo engined Ferraris since the 1970s, he knew that the chassis and running gear of a 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe was the same as that on a LWB Cal Spyder. With this in mind and making use of his experience of refreshing the original cars, he decided that rather than restoring a very 'tired' Ferrari 250 PF Coupe from 1960 (see photos) to its former glory, he'd rebody it as a Cal Spyder. Some purists may see this as sacrilege - others will agree the end result is a very attractive and usable 250 GT.

Suzie's dad certainly knew his onions! That car is immaculate and so beautifully done. His buck making, and body building skills were second to none. Those door handles are originally an Alfa Romeo part but also found on Ferrari Maserati and even on the Renault Alpine. They are also being fitted to a new car ! The Nobe electric 3 wheeler a sort of Jetsons retro thing . Well having mentioned the Mille Miglia I might ad that they are the same door handles as the Alfa Romeo 1900 super that in co driving on the Mille Miglia in 6 weeks. I never thought I’d get to prepare a car for the Mille let alone drive it ! Love your channel! Best thing on KZbin ! It’s what inspired me to have a go with my little channel.

Compared to the sacrilege of putting E motors and Lithium batteries into an old Ferrari, i think that reincarnating a coupe as a convertible pretty much goes under the radar these days. One bloke who did electrify an old Ferrari claimed that the original engine had been 'stolen'. We'd have to take this at face value i suppose, but i'd be more at ease with the concept if i'd actually seen the crime reference number. If it is true, shame on the person who bought an engine with the number ground off and overstamped.
