Are you still building the Gas Turbine if so, when is the next update. Can you give me the length of the Gas Turbine in 7.5" gauge in U.S. in feet and inches

Hi Tony, unfortunately I'm not working on this project at this point in time, length is depend on scale.

Tony, looking good! Before you tweak the wastegate, perhaps a roasting pan and a 5kg chicken to multi-task ;)

Absolutely awesome work. A long time coming but worth it. 🚉 It seems you are losing a lot of the gas flow to the wastegate and what appeared to me possibly some other leaks around the welds. The gas turbine shaft barely spun or seemed to have much torque until the jet went into a high power setting, then it looked like the turbine was spinning off it's nut. I have a question. How was the electric starter motor attached to the front of the jet? Was it permanently fixed or was it supposed to engage for starting and then disengage once the jet stabilised, and how did it get broken? Looking forward to more of this build and for you to measure exactly how many kW an attached alternator can produce. Thanks for sharing. 😉👌🏻

I very much appreciate when an Aussie likes American locomotives. About the wastegate issue you could just plug it to be honest because the real bird burners (that’s another nickname for the big blows) shot exhaust gasses out at 150mph and they were 850 degrees Fahrenheit. (454 degrees Celsius). If you had more room you could route that exhaust gas to a second turbine kind of like as a compound gas turbine. Essentially route the gas through the main blower and route it through again to capture more energy. Hope that helps Anthony

@EverythingAnthonySOS 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve , your right I should have plugged the waste gate , I was a little eager to fire up the turbine and give it a test run , although compounds would be great , I think simplicity is the key here to start with , thank for sharing I appreciate your suggestions .

I think it would be petty neat to get a motor and run it from the engine itself to drive the locomotive itself by acting as a generator instead of burning fuel just for noise. You'd probably need a gearbox of some sort for the generator.

Hi there, at some point you have missed the power wheel is attached to the turbine it is fully functional and will power a alternator, alot of effort considering a sound card would give the same effect, thankyou for your interest in the build 👍

What you do need to do is make sure that your turbines keep running after fuel shut off to cool down, one of the biggest draw backs with the GEs was that they kept bending the shafts and rotors due to heat.
@EverythingAnthonySOS
@EverythingAnthonySOS 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree Keith , the cool down footage was edited out as it takes several minutes to drop temps down to 88 deg C , the ecu does this automatically with the starter motor , In this instance I had to hold the starter motor to the turbine wheel during the entire cool down period after the run , I felt it was boring to watch ...thankyou for taking the time to comment , I appreciate your input.
