It's sheepshead time!
Want to catch more of these delicious inshore fish this winter?
Here's the weird thing about catching sheepshead: they can be pretty easy to catch... but only if you know what you're doing.
This isn't one of those species that you're likely to accidentally catch.
You've got to know what you're doing and in this video, that's exactly what you're going to learn!
I've got Salt Strong Fishing Coaches Luke and Tony with me and we're going to cover:
- The best baits and lures that sheepshead can't resist
- How to set the hook to actually land them (these are notorious bait stealers)
- When the best time of year to catch sheepshead is
- The best tides and spots to catch them
- And much more
Have any questions about catching sheepshead?
Let me know down in the comments!

I was a member but left. I do give you guys huge props because I learned tons and caught more fish last summer than the prior 50+ years of fishing here as a member. My only downside was I use real bait almost exclusively. Probably because I never catch anything on any type of artificial. I like this video and will try the tools and methods while kayaking this weekend and will be rejoining soon. I refuse to lose so I'm going to catch fish artificial baits!

@@johnbracewell3700 I did well thanks. I caught about 20 sheeps total, brought home 4 larger ones for dinner. Had to wait about 20 mins after chumming the water before the bite turned on. Fed them a lot of sand fleas between hook-sets.

Great podcast guys, thanks. I usually wait until late February to start my sheepies trips but I have to get offshore a ways to the AR systems and some of the big wrecks such as the shrimp boat out of the Steinhatchee River. Live shrimp have always produced better than frozen. Fiddlers are great of course and we get those from the mud flats at Cedar Key. Fiddlers are super year round for natural reef bottom fishing too. I haven't tried the artificial crabs yet but might be inclined to give it a go. Thanks again and stay safe.

I've noticed hear in texas city & Galveston tx. Area for Sheepshead and black drum, spawning areas with structure is the best spot to get hooked up. I love the flaky white meat.

Tony mentioned he liked to use a drop rig with a live crab and wondered if a artifical crab would work on a drop rig as well?

Some folks in Galveston will get hermit crabs down by the jetties on east beach, crack the shell open, and go over to Seawolf park, where there is a pier

Mangrove crabs live in the trees, mud crabs live in the mud under rocks that are exposed at low tide , they will have mud crabs, stone crabs , small blue crabs and popping shrimp. the baby stone crabs have stripped legs, dont use those...

When I was 16 ,58 years ago, my family moved to Gulf Breeze, only stayed for two years moved bak toSC. I used to fish the old cut in half bridge from the Gulf Breeze side for sheeps, walking the bridge looking at the pilings. Huge sheeps could be seen, even tried gigging them with a twenty foot homemade trident gig. Caught trout off the end . I live inMyrtle Beach now and surf fish the jetties at Huntington Beach State Park.

I disagree with leaving the claw on a fiddler crab, the reason you are getting so many hits or taps is because you are giving the fish a easy target to grab your bait , rip the claw off and put your hook into the joint where the leg was in the socket and through the hard shell. Just saying,
