You asked for any suggestions on videos. You do a great job with your videos. When lambing season rolls around, you might consider doing a video each day of lambing. Rather than releasing one video with a summary for all days, release a video at the end of each day of lambing. In my mind, there is no bigger attraction than the lambing season!

Hi Glyn, great to see Tiny doing so well after getting attacked. At least with her being small she is easy to handle and move. Her stunted growth hasn't affected her ability to move well and get into trouble. Hope your dad's shoulder heals up ok. Enjoyed seeing the clips of eating breakfast, talks in the kitchen and just everyday activities. In a future video please explain what all the colored Paint Stripes mean on the Sheep? Seems like most colors are with Blue or Red stripes. With having so many overcast, rainy and cool days it must be chilly working outside in that weather.

We only run about 120 ewes. We lamb half in December and half in April. We lamb indoors and out. Our sheep will breed out of season. Our lambing rate runs about 190-205%, with a conception rate of 90-100%. No supplemental feed is given, only grass or hay. Katadhins are pretty heat and cold tolerant, good foragers. Good parasite resistance. We added the Austrailan White to get more thickness in the topline.

Hi Glyn, we use Charollais Ram on Ewe Lamb before, but the problem we found was that they require that extra attention when lambing down . @@sheepshepherd No my father sold up and retired 30 years ago ,it was a small family farm and to be honest if we kept it on it would be more like a large croft compared to the size of farms required now to make a decent kind of living and I would have had to diversified into something else to make it work or have another job on the side . Used to have grey face ewes and some Suffolk crosses which we all put to a Suffolk tup, most of the lambs we sold through the fat ring in Elgin auction mart . My father sadly passed away 2 years after selling the farm and had owned it since the 1940s after coming home from fighting in ww2 , like most farmers I'm sure you will agree he hardly had a day off in his life but didn't know anything better ,I still vist the farm now as its a local contractor friend who now owns it and not much has changed , your videos bring back a lot of good memories of farm life .

Love your videos Glenn How do you get on with sheep on cattle slats ? I have a spare pen in the cattle shed wondering if the gaps in the slats are too wide for ewes feet. I saw in this video you had the rams on cattle slats but I suppose they have much bigger hooves. I run a blue texel and have no trouble with him on ewe lambs but I’m only a north Kerry hobby farmer.

Another great video, In my opinion it’s a good idea to put the Beltex to the ewe lambs for easier lambing, The Charolais are great for easy lambing but they can be a slight bit soft I sometimes find, I’ll look forward to the tipping/tupping video which hopefully you’ll do a few of them which ewes go to which ram, by the way do you still have any Belclare rams
@sheepshepherd
@sheepshepherd Жыл бұрын
No I don't have any belclare. 1lleys, You're 100% spot on I had a bad experience with charolais ramsast year never again. That's why I went with beltex this year. Live and learn🙈😂👍 ya I'll do a video for sure on that 👍👍

I love watching sheep videos but grew up on a horse farm in Kentucky-and know very little about sheep. Thats my excuse for asking possibly a stupid question. What is “tipping “? Is it the same as “tupping”, which I understand. 🤓
