You asked for any suggestions on videos. You do a great job with your videos. When lambing season rolls around, you might consider doing a video each day of lambing. Rather than releasing one video with a summary for all days, release a video at the end of each day of lambing. In my mind, there is no bigger attraction than the lambing season!

We only run about 120 ewes. We lamb half in December and half in April. We lamb indoors and out. Our sheep will breed out of season. Our lambing rate runs about 190-205%, with a conception rate of 90-100%. No supplemental feed is given, only grass or hay. Katadhins are pretty heat and cold tolerant, good foragers. Good parasite resistance. We added the Austrailan White to get more thickness in the topline.

Hi Glyn, we use Charollais Ram on Ewe Lamb before, but the problem we found was that they require that extra attention when lambing down . @sheepshepherd Жыл бұрын
It's rare when stuff goes to plan😂😂 Great to hear from ya in Scotland, lovely country. We buy hay usually and use alot of lick buckets and we feed ewes 6 weeks out from lambing with a high protein nut . They would also be on a big run of ground, so there not too bad. It's the snow that gets us. Alot of feeding needed when it lands. Are u farming now
@Jwp714i Жыл бұрын
@@sheepshepherd No my father sold up and retired 30 years ago ,it was a small family farm and to be honest if we kept it on it would be more like a large croft compared to the size of farms required now to make a decent kind of living and I would have had to diversified into something else to make it work or have another job on the side . Used to have grey face ewes and some Suffolk crosses which we all put to a Suffolk tup, most of the lambs we sold through the fat ring in Elgin auction mart . My father sadly passed away 2 years after selling the farm and had owned it since the 1940s after coming home from fighting in ww2 , like most farmers I'm sure you will agree he hardly had a day off in his life but didn't know anything better ,I still vist the farm now as its a local contractor friend who now owns it and not much has changed , your videos bring back a lot of good memories of farm life .
