As I've mentioned in the past I worked on the Bridgeport Ranger District of the Toiyabe National Forest in the 1980's. One day, one of those nearly wind free, yet incredibly clear days that often happen in the fall, my wilderness supervisor and I rode horseback south from Sonora Pass on the PCT. The view to the west were particularly good and we stopped at a high point where we were able to distinguish Mt. Diablo. That is a long view, perhaps 110-130 miles. Of course, we could see east into Nevada, not difficult considering that the northern portion of the Sweetwater Range is in Nevada, but also because we could see that large gap in the coastal ranges north of the Bay Area and the Mt. Hamilton area to the south. Diablo was in that gap at the correct compass bearing. It was a great ride and it snowed within a week, so we fit a great ride in near the end of the summer/fall field season.

Also, there is a great trailhead just north of the highway where you can park your car off the highway. I remember when it was built, somewhere in the early 1980's. The entrance is just a few hundred feet west of the pass.

Yo, how did you feel after the hike with your shoes? I bought some Nike Pegasus Trail 2 and want to know your experience with them (I know they’re not the same shoes, just close enough). Are they better than hiking boots?
@Sheety33
@Sheety33 3 жыл бұрын
Dude! Appreciate you asking - they are actually great! I’ve always worn boots, but switched to the Nikes this past summer and they are incredible. I have sensitive feet, and they held up all summer / fall under all of my hikes. I’d buy another pair for sure. Very breathable, light, wide for all my toes, with a strong and solid sole.

@@Sheety33 thanks for replying with your feedback. I too also wear boots but find that my feet are extremely tired after a rigorous hike. I’m looking forward to using my new Nike hiking shoes since they can also be used for trail running and running in general. I just wanted some feedback on someone who I know hikes a lot. When do you think is a better time to use boots instead?
