Hearing someone singing Shoals of Herring in the British streets is like hearing an echo of our lost heritage. Ewan McColl was a folk song collector and he wrote this tune about a fisherman called Sam Larner, from Norfolk, while collecting shanties from the locals. It’s a shame we let our traditional folk songs disappear. There was a time when 90% of people would have known that song. In Ireland they still know their culture and you can still hear the songs in the bars. It’s a crying shame that only the Irish are singing English folk songs anymore. Maybe we’d do more to protect our country and culture if we remembered it.

My home town. I haven't even been over for 5 years. Depresses me even seeing it on KZbin TBH. Good on you for going over though. It is a friendly place, to be fair. It was all bomb sites down The Moor when I was a kid, and I'm not sure it looked any worse. The Peace Gardens was where we all used to drink when the pubs closed for the afternoon. I was once taking photos of some of Sheffield's oldest buildings, and a bloke drove onto the street, in a Jag, and demanded to know why I was photographing him! Historically, I'd say the Wybourn was the roughest, but not sure now. That street where you saw the Onesie was where the town lock-up was located in the 18th century. That area round Dixon Lane was buzzing in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's. They've knocked most of it down now. That building opposite where the castle was, was Sheffield Town Hall, and later the Crown Court, which was open until the end of 1995. Nice to hear The Fields of Athenrye! There have always been in a lot of Irish in Sheffield, and in that area, the 17th century Irish Cross was just up the road. That's Lady's Bridge, which has timbers going back to Henry VIII, and the police station and court buildings opened by Prince Charles in the 70's. Thanks for going over :)

@letni9506 spot on 🤣 I can remember having to hold the bottoms of my jeans off the floor while going round castle market as a kid because of rotten fish juice and urine. It's a different world now. Let's be honest it's only racists and those wearing rose tinted glasses that think it's a bad place

Every KZbinr that visits Sheffield gets the old police box in. Glad you got it in at the end. I see Sheffield a bit different to the folk that have lived here all their lives. On the whole it's a decent City compared to most. The city centre is a dump right now, most cities are like that. I came here from Bradford in 2013, so for me it's a huge improvement. I saw your video in page hall, that is a proper shit hole. The castle market relocated to the moor, and it's a better market than it was. But I've only been here just over a decade, so people who were born here and have seen things I haven't could easily say I'm chatting shit lol.

Bless you Heston I felt that mate! I think with my DX of Schizophrenia, before such I oscillates bi-polar, in fact it's my baseline, and it oscillates to schizo delusions, etc. But I just wanted to say, it hit me from you as I always felt you were solid af. Like most chefs are, maybe! And this is it man....the archetypes you created to manage one of the most stressful jobs going, anchor you and your bi-polar states. They embed and become ingrained. The metrics and measures from.heart and mind become holistic, and you are forced more and more to process. A wonderful love from your partner. And do not feel guilty or ashamed. Talking therapies are paramount, like seasoning! Trust your powerful mind can be maintained in the mental realm by accepting such support. Also, the meds assist only, ain't a fix switch. But mainly man, well done for speaking out, and Love will revisit when you tick all these boxes. Peace Heston 🩵💙🩵

The man who said he is 21 was my neighbour for 21 years, he has mental illness and he really is a nice person. I looked out for him when I was living there. I sometimes go back to the neighborhood to check on him. Thank you for talking to him 👍🏽

I remember being a kid and been down castle market with my mum and then a bit older with mates, often seeing and saying hello to Bomber Graham. He always was stopping to talk to people. 👍👍👍

We actually helped defeat the real good guys, just so we could stay in this endless cycle of debt based slavery.. The parasite Bankers feared that the Germans would free the British, then together they would erradicate this perpetual debt based slave system out of existence..

Great to see Jeremey as more needed like him. When you asked those 2 guys "Whats sheffield like "finng shit" 😂😂 That lovely building in the park area is stunning, lovely to see these old places. "U filming" he was'nt was he. Yu need to put a sign on your back "i am allowed to film lol.😊 So homeless at 40 and 50 get dumped on the streets and somalis get housed. Rave about preglabalin, wow that shocked me as i am on 3 prebagalin for fibro and artrites every day 😂 Loved the Irish gentleman, he had a lovely voice. Thank u for letting him sing.
@HopePeace-hr5qxАй бұрын
Somalis working hard, earning a living & paying for their housing are not the cause of white British people being addicted to drugs & not having family members look after them, instead leaving them on the streets.

You should have carried on past the bottom of the moor and gone up Ecclesall rd. Lot more chilled with outdoor cafés and the beautiful botanical gardens up there. Town centre is like a minefield full of divs.
