If you like that knife, you should get your hands on a British MoD Survival knife. I didn't even know it existed until 2 weeks ago and managed to my hand on one. It makes the Becker Bk2 look like it's little brother from another mother.

I notice that the blade shape and especially the fuller reminds me of the old gladstone Marble's Ideal knife from pre WW2.

Old school leather knife handles that cover the whole tang are extremely user friendly when you grab them in desert heat or extreme cold. On the real US Ka-bar types the leather got treated with an anti0fungicidae to reduce the chances of them rotting in moist tropical climates. I doubt if that is an issue in Israel. Were they real IDF issued knives. I have seen a knife and bayonet collector's book that said they were issued. No info there for how lone or if current issue. So, it is likely Sheffield continued to make them when the contract ended. In a similar manner the real Ka-Bar company still makes USMC type Ka-bar knives, but they have not been ai military contractor since WWII ended. So, the IDF knife could be in that category.
@maseta310 жыл бұрын
Sheffield made it for the Israeli military. It is an issue knife or at least it used to be. It was inspired by the USMC combat/utility knife. You can say its an offspring of the kabar just like the galil is an offspring of the ak-47.

If you think a convex edge “sucks for slicing paper,” it’s because the knife isn’t sharp enough. A convex edge, thick or thin, is perfectly capable of slicing paper as well as any other edge.

Yeah, that's true, I'm a lot better at slicing paper since then

Good vid man! J Adams is a great company. If you want a great all round knife I highly recommend the British Army MoD survival knife. I got one it is a TANK never let me down yet! 1/4 thick blade full tang 7in blade. Will do any task decently, doesn’t excel at one, but will do EVERYTHING; Hammering, prying, skinning, splitting (it’s not an axe it’s a knife, splitting/chopping are for axes and hatchets, but should you be in a situation where it is your only tool, it will do it) it’s a crude tool, made to work, people either love or hate this knife, but in any negative reviews people have, it is complaining about trivial things: ‘it comes dull’ learn to maintain your kit by learning to sharpen, ‘the scales don’t fit the tang’ that oversized scale was designed for cold weather and minimizing contact with steel, I used mine like that for a bit but it does create hot spots so I sanded the scales to the tang to fit my baby soft hands and it feels a lot better. ‘The phosphate coating on the blade isn’t durable’ take it off lol. ‘It’s too heavy at 1.5lbs’ idk it’s never bothered me, but the weight may bother some. No knife is perfect but this knife is all I need. IMO the best and only knife you will need. Comes with a wood handle or black fiber handle. If you are looking at getting g one get it from the J. Adams Ltd factory in Sheffield, than you know you’ll have the real deal and no chance of a amazon rip-off lol

It has a beautiful star. How many inches long is the blade? How many inches wide is the blade?
@slick_slicers7 жыл бұрын
I’ve had the civilian version of this over 40 years. It’s tough and extremely effective for everything from chopping wood to preparing dinner. I see the sheaths haven’t got any better. The steel is hard, difficult to sharpen, but holds an edge for years. Sharpen it properly and it’ll slice paper all day long. I doubt the Israeli connection. The blade has been a standard of several Sheffield companies since the war.

The outdoor footage rocked! Really good review as well, answered my questions I had about this blade. I really wanted to like this as I found some being liquidated at under $25, but the grind is about as pathetic as the sheath. I liked the Magen David and the fuller in the sweet spot, but that's about the only good thing.

Sheffield is not a brand, unless you are talking about the walmart chinese crap. The real sheffield knives are made by small companies dotted around sheffield in the UK like Jack Adams or John Nowill, this particular knife is made by John Nowill of Sheffield. Walmart is using the term "Sheffield knives" to brand chinese crap which is giving the sheffield knives term as a whole a bad reputation.

This knife conforms to the Isreali Army standard apparently, so my guess is that it was made for some competition when the Israelies were looking for such a knife. Waste of time tbh. If they could get a USMC knife - which is very similar - for free from the US, then it was always going to be a foregone conclusion (personally, I don't much care for either this or the USMC knife). To be honest,, I can't see how either of those knives would be ideal for "commando" use. Surely some form of dagger would be better for quietly killing sentries and the like.
@theant98213 жыл бұрын
That depends, the commando dagger is designed with one purpose only, to kill the enemy quickly. This is designed for 2 purposes, and so is in the Jack of all trades master of none category, it can do everything but it at a disadvantage to the commando dagger in fighting and disadvantaged against dedicated survival knives too, but can do both unlike the dagger or regular survival knives. Do you want 2 knives ideal for their purpose or one which is comprised. I depends upon what you are doing, ww2 style if you're spending plenty of time behind enemy lines, away from civilisation in Africa or the jungle, you have different priorities than you would parachuting into occupied France to sabotage German industry and logistics like shipping and railways, etc. Horses for courses.

I never saw this knife in israel.. Israeli soldier use multitool most of the time, or some tiny knives. The real commanders use dustar or another expensive tools. I think its a marketing trick
@israelipiper8 жыл бұрын
+ohka “vichi” finegold Your are right. No one knows about this knife here in Israel, and the army does NOT use it. Many soldiers buy a reasonable Kershaw or Coast or some other not too expensive folder. The special units take care f their own knife needs. Historically, we did use the British Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife, or some close variation. Lots of companies like to add "Israeli" to their claimed tactical equipment to enhance sales. I hope no one actually assumes this is an Israeli knife.

Sheffield isn't a brand. It's a place in England where most British knife makers are based. A lot of non-Brits get confused as American websites tend to lump all these knives together under the Sheffield tagline when the truth is, there are dozens of different makers which vary in quality. This one is made by John Nowill, a very good mid range maker.
@dahotrod15337 жыл бұрын

Sheffield steel is best in the world; they make excellent blades
@theant98213 жыл бұрын
Sheffield is a city, during the industrial revolution it was the city that produced more steel than any other city in the world. Stainless Steel was invented in Sheffield, high quality steel has been produced in Sheffield for over 700 years, the UK steel industry specialises in high quality steel where it can still compete with cheaper rivals in aisa due to superior quality. There are many manufacturers based in Sheffield, some still operating after hundreds of years, making blades, cutlery, etc. For everyone from the King/Queen and his/her family to the British army/Royal Navy and everything in between from railway lines and trains to steel for warships and machinery.
