Tough question. Neither would be a bad choice. I might opt for the Bull Dozier for the AUS 8 steel with a slightly higher HRC than the fighter. The Dozier also comes with a kydex sheath which is a plus in my book. The fighter is outfitted with leather.

Excellent review. Thanks for taking the time. I love the knife. Finally, someone is making good knives again! I looked at the Potbelly earlier, and now this. Kudos to KaBar!
@jasonlong57667 жыл бұрын
Despite the fact it is made in Taiwan this is a very good, quality, reliable and dependable knife. I have had mine for years as a EDC. I've used it to baton wood from pine, hickory to oak. it is also a excellent throwing knife. The balance is perfect for it and its own weight helps drive it deep into your target even from long distance. It is easier to stick than knives manufactured for throwing if you know how to throw a knife

Hey Chris, not trying to be rude, I like your videos and I appreciate the time you put in to show us all these knives, just giving you a little constructive criticism... With KZbin, just be short and concise. We all want to know about the sheath and the additional pieces it comes with, but it shouldn't be the focus or even close to the focus of the video. I like your videos, but I almost stopped the video because it took way too long to get to the un-sheathing part. I think you can talk about the other parts in 2-3 sentences and keep the video short and informative. Most successful KZbin videos are short and sweet and can be watched several times and never fast forwarded. Good job overall tho boss and thanks again. Dave

Hey, i really like Bob Dozier Designs... happen to have an original Dozier, awesome blade !
@joeboxer21612 жыл бұрын
Great review Bob Nice to see the passion coming through for such a great knife.
@knivestown13 жыл бұрын
@TheAustralianBloke The blade does widen just slightly as it proceeds toward the tip but does so in a straight line, not in a curve like a recurve blade. So technically I would have to say no it is not a recurve but for all practical purposes it does provide enhanced cutting power like a recurve.

Because of the top bevel it would not work well with a clamp system like Lansky for sharpening either the edge or the top bevel. You can sharpen it with a stone or rods. As for sharpening the top bevel, it would take some work but could certainly be done.
@SavageShooter9312 жыл бұрын
I have the lansky system and Im sure you could get a grip on the middle flat to sharpen the main edge, if not just clamp on the spine flat at the handle and angle the sharpener towards the tip, since the blade is 1.615" wide and the depth of the lansky clamp has just over an inch of purchase area it shouldnt be an issue, that should work for sharpening the top bevel as well, If the clamp bolt is in the way just set the spacer and use vice grips or a c clamp to secure it
@knivestown13 жыл бұрын
@antagonist42 I had no problem. If the sheath is that tight you might try heating it up so it is softer and then pull it apart some. When it cools it should set looser. But I have not seen this problem you are talking about.
@SavageShooter9312 жыл бұрын
Ive used the lansky sharpener to sharpen My Katana, Hatchets, and all my knives, Even using some real strong duct tape I resharpened my cold steel spetsnaz shovel. Its extremely versatile if you think outside the box. I am in the process of making a few new vids for my channel and the Lansky deluxe will be part of that new update, Im using a video editing program for the first time, so its taking a while to get used to it, but I think it will be worth the wait. hope that helps
@knivestown13 жыл бұрын
@shawny142 For bushcraft you wont go wrong with either, but if I had to choose I would give a narrow edge to the Bull Dozier as its blade geometry is slighly more conducive to chopping and the steel is full tang the same shape as the handle, while the tanto has a straighter blade which is less power for chopping and the tang is not the full dimension of the handle.

Fiberglass, not glass like in a window. Basically this is FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon). The strands of fiberglass run through it like rebar through cement, strengthening it and adding durability.
@EUnotsogreat8 ай бұрын
Hi Bob. I would think the knife is great, but the sheath is poor?? At least with the ka bar kecker bk2, the same type of glass reinforced nylon dulls the blade when removing and placing back in. Hope you are keeping well.
@65459760111 жыл бұрын
Remove the handle scales and modify them and the tang as needed. It is a six inch handle right and you only need a 1/4 of an inch to have a striking pommel right?

That's my deal too. I've been craving a Hudson Bay recently, but I'd much rather get a vintage Bark River than a Condor. The latter may be cheaper and comparable in toughness, but the Bark River guys still make a fine product that deserves respect. They just happen to be out of my price range. :P I'm currently researching Hen & Rooster to see if I can get one of their bowies. It seems Germany outsourced to Spain-not a huge deal.

Nice video. A lot of combat knife knives have something I don't like; they incorporate finger-grooves for all four fingers to fit in. That would work if everyone had the same size hands. A single groove for your index finger, like this, is much more versatile for a variety of hand sizes, more comfortable in various grips, and essentially is just as secure in a fighting situation.

@SignedSign12 жыл бұрын
That is not a kydex sheeth, thats some hard plastic reinforced with fiberglass, and unfortunatly that type of sheeth dulls the knife just by pulling it in and out the sheeth a couple of times as the fiberglass is murder on the edge, a lot of ka-bar users have complained about that kind of sheeth due to it dulling the knife and instead they had to have a custom made real kydex sheeth made to replace it

Agree! I have a '40's era mil.spec. issue knife w/solid-body sheath, stamped "RCC" (maybe Randal Cut. Corp.?) I've had this for 20yrs. and beat the crap out it, and still no wear!!! I would stack this knife against anything currently offered by anyone and subject them to the same shit I put this knife thru...and let's see who wins! I have thrown this knife thousands of times at all kinds of live wood/deadwood and I mean HARD and the tip is still there!!!! Also have a Schrade scabbard knife, and it's the same way...smaller, but will NOT break (early 60's knife, I think) ALL of the "new" knives are bullshit! "Sharp" don't mean SHIT if the knife breaks because the steel's too brittle!
@Jboii325110 жыл бұрын
Taiwan is better than China or Japan though IMO.

*****"Quality is as quality does' applies to any manufacturer, whether it's U.S. or import. The formula of the steel itself is the key question...other than that, it's just 'steel'. I have had a 'Victorinox Swiss-Champ' for many years now...and been very surprised by just how high the quality of steel is...as well as the 'fit & finish'. With a little research I found that this company has 'special batches' of steel-blanks made according to their exact formula of blend and heat, and as far as I can find, they are the only company that does this to ensure quality control. (I wonder why others don't do this?)

because most of these knives is made in China now, so if its not made in Taiwan very likely it will say china. Taiwan ISO standards are much higher than china factories. Regardless of the knife's material Taiwan has better facilities and workers So actually thank goodness the knife says Taiwan it could have been worse.
