Interesting video. I grew up in Rugby in the early 80s. I spent so many days exploring the abandoned railway buildings, bridges and lines that criss-crossed the whole town. They were very accessible back then.

I don't know this area of Sheffield, Paul, but it's great to see that the station buildings have survived, even though they closed 70 years ago, which is astonishing. It's a bonus when you can find the old platforms within that dense undergrowth. The drone footage is brilliant of the buildings and the photos too. Very enjoyable, and many thanks for filming this.

I was so pleased that you found some platform at Grange Lane, and a substantial one too, it makes all the nettle stings and dirt worthwhile. I hope a railway enthusiast takes over at Meadow Hall and Wincobank when it is passed on, there's so much that could be done with the place to bring it back up to scratch.

I agree. That would make an excellent cafe too. Just a bit of vegetation clearance would help no end in the meantime.

I wish I'd some photographs of the old York Road station. I remember playing on the platform as a kid. It used to be behind where the shell garage is now on Bentley Road. Roughly where the access road is to the retail park. We both grew up in the same area and are similar age. We probably went to school together 😂 good to see you Mobile again lad. No hobbling 👍 great video aswell 👌

Hi mate thank you for another great video. Me and my father Chris Shaw used to walk this line from Chapletown Preservation society (loco sheds) to Meadowhall. Ecclesfield east later 80 - 90 after closure. The site was once a small scrap yard. The goods shed / loco shed was used as a garage for repairing cars. About a mile up the line was Smithy wood coking plant (now dpd). The blue saddle tank which used to work the line. Moved to Peak rail. I believe it's now at the Lincolnshire wolds railway. With it sister loco Nunn. All these memories we should chat some time.

Hi Gavin. Is that the same Chris Shaw who was up at Cleethorpes Coast in the 90s? As a twist of fate I'm off upto the Lincolnshire Wolds in a few weeks

@@WobblyRunner yes my family owned the cclr from early 90s until 2000s. I live in Coninsbrough I can see castle from our back garden. My father is retired is, living Pontefract. My father was a big player in most railway groups when he operated the cclr. He helped the wolds railway when they stopped progressing. He also assisted in the talks with the owner of the loco called Nunn (black saddle), to be a resident at Lincolnshire wolds railway (The Grimsby to Louth Railway). My family also was involved in the Rother valley railway (Killermarsh). We had the Smithy wood loco there in the old shed.

Excellent. What a small world. In the 90s I used to help out on the cclr in the school holidays. I remember when they took it over and had the propane locos and then built the new station at kingsway. Your dad was always good to me wheneveri went down to help.

Whenever they decommision a railway line, I wish they would try and make the platforms that remain, a feature of the trail with some history boards. I guess there just isn’t a budget for that kind of ongoing maintenance.

That's the dream AL!!!! 🙂 I suppose it's good a lot of local volunteers take pride in many many places. Unfortunately some don't seem interested.

Great video as always really enjoyable and interesting. Thanks very much. Update on the Sprotborough Signal Box at the Yorkshire Wolds Railway, construction now reached roof level, once dry work can commence inside. I posted a video of a brake van ride that goes past the box. Hope to see you there in the near future.

Thanks Julian. Great to hear about the signal box 👍. Oddly I did pass the site at around 1am the other night and thought to myself I've got to make sure i get back here very soon. I've been in Driffield for a funeral but sadly had to head straight back home.
