I was born January 1970 so I grew up listening to Sheila E. and I was obsessed with her. I fucking love her so much I wanted to be like her!! Back in the day that’s how it was us girls we wanted to be like Sheila E. or Madonna and whatever! I’m 53 years old now, so I’ll look at things differently, but I still freaking love her man she’s a bad ass. My Puerto Rican sister!

You mentioned Sheila E being a Prince protégé. It got me thinkin', you can tell a lot about an artist when you consider who their mentors were, and who they in turn inspired. The artists that they associate, or collaborate with. The respect that they give and receive, when covering another performer, or simply when being discussed in the music world. Reasons why I love Sheila E 1. We share the same birthday (December 12,1957. I was born in 84) 2. Her father taught her and her brothers to play the drums. Also Ms Sheila and Prince used to be engaged for - in her words- two weeks. That's where "A Love Bizzare" came from. 3. She's a die hard Golden State Warriors fan and her favorite player is Klay Thompson (her choice, not mine. I'm a MAJOR Cleveland Cavaliers junkie). 4. She stopped playing drums for about 4 or 5 years because of all the touring she did with Prince and on her own- from salsa to gospel music and she never rested. But had some kind of leg surgery and she's back to her old self. 5. She had a messed up childhood up until she was five. She said in an interview that she was molested by an uncle of hers and she was scared to do anything because the family wanted her to be a nurse. Screw that. She is the best female drummer ever. 6. She's beautiful!

They really messed up the sound. You couldn't hear Eddie M.'s iconic sax solo AT ALL!!! She was great as always though.
