I remember buying The Glamourous Life album the day it was released, back in 1984. Hitting play at the very beginning and hearing this amazing song as an opener. I knew then that I would wear that album out, and I did. The zone Prince was in during the 80s was the thing of legends. He was churning out amazing music for himself, Sheila E, The Time, Mazarati, The Family, The Bangles, Stevie Nicks...he was existing on an entirely different universe than the rest of the world. We will NEVER see another artist like him.

Back in those days, North America and Europe used different television systems. America used NTSC which had a much lower pixel count and produced worse picture quality. Most of Europe used the PAL system which had a higher pixel count and therefore much better picture quality. Top Pop was made in the Netherlands, so better quality PAL pictures.

On one level, this is hilarious. A "band" mocking a song where it's pretty much just one guy (Prince) playing keyboards and drums. They did the whole "everyone steps the same way" thing that all the Prince projects were known for (and there were a lot of them in the 80s), but also... This is a very good pop song. Sheila is an amazingly talented musician, and beautiful to boot.
