When I went moto GP racing at Pocono 2.56 full road course for my first time....I was sitting on the pit wall for the first time watching 600 mod class and this very smart rider was pushing his body and his Helmut visor all the way up to the windshield for apparently aerodynamic and I could see the outline from the windshield up and over and down his back side off the tail of the bike so in my race I added that to my technique...I was already pop out from behind the fairing using my upper body as a parachute hanging way out to the right going into the first turn hair pin to help me slow down ...and in my sixth race of the day lost the lead on lap 3 ,lap 4 ,3 of us crossed the finish line side by side an I got a third so I was happy...but I really started to open my eyes up to aero...and I was told later that very important to cars is how well u manage the air coming off the back of the car, wonder where they ever got that idea....I don't believe them....JK

Thanks this a great story...and see being born the same time as the mustang I missed SHELBY s whole driving career....but this is a side of this team I never knew about,1..I had know knowledge that Shelby won Le Mon,2..know idea he took his cars to the 24hrs of du MANS,and won,and new both of the Ford vs FERRARI...so its good to learn that Shelby was not just a guy who's crew knew how to bolt on a supercharger or turbo unit....the day I realize how good Shelby was ,was test drive day for me....I drove 3 cars in 2 days....1987 new 633csi...then jumped in the fairly affordable blue and white 2.2 5 speed Shelby Charger, then the next day drove the DaYtona turbo Z,non Shelby, with unequal d half shaft and with 11 miles on it ,half mile from the dealership I had to save it from pulling itself into a telephone pole easy on the turbo it about ripped the steering wheel out of my hand, then I jump in the Shelby 2.2 charger, and found non of that BS,a nicer and more solid ride a,even compared to the 633csi,and found a very strong un four cylynder like 2 liter turbo car with very little noticeable turbo lag....mean in racing predictable turbo power,I was really sold on the look of the Daytona because it was stylish and new.....but the 2.2 charger felt much more thought out and track worthy and that means safety for the streets....because the better your car handles the better u drive and the less likely u are to loose control,Ralph, believe me I used to push my 1970thru Barracuda and challengers to their limits....so I was impressed by this little 2.2 Shelby car....and I realized that day if this guy could bring that car into a sports car killer he was not just nobody....so there must be more to him and his company.....thanks..

I hear Peter talking about how much better the car was,and copy is the best flattery....I bought a 1973 Nissan 240z which for years had a similar front nose and chopped rear end like the coupe, well being a road racer my dad too we got invited to the Kodak 200 race at Watkins Glen race track in New York and I told my dad lets take my car the 240z,we broke a belt 40 minutes from arriving at the track....got it fixed and watched the race on the way home with thectite new alternator belt engine running great that car was tough to keep under a 100 mph just barely touch the gas pedal,I gave it to my dad and he put 6000 grand in it mostly the motor and he would let me drive it any more because it was scary fast be sides being aerodynamically slippery too....I don't think he put racing shocks in it and new springs so it was not stable or solid at a quick pace due to unsprung weight,a little bouncy on brake plant ing front end....

I watched the movie Ford vs. Ferrari , it memorialized the GT 40 and Fords accomplishment, it was disappointed to some extent ! A movie needs to be made of Shelby , AC , Ford engine to the transition of the Daytona Coupe and its win at 24 hour of LeMans ! Name it for the guy who really stuck it to Ferrari, Shelby vs. Ferrari !
