I’m very happy to see key folks from physical media specialty companies having regular shows like this . Getting insight into film / tv / physical media in all its aspects , has been very enjoyable and informative . I’ve been a film and tv fan since I was a child in the 1970’s , and collecting since vhs days of the mid to late 80’s when retail releases became more affordable…… the era were living through right now is a truly great one , with the quality of the remasters , packaging , bonus materials and of course the films and shows themselves . Regular shows like Kino’s Shelf Space have become invaluable to getting the “behind the scenes” insights into this retail world and all it entails . I have to say big shout out to the based shoes too - I first caught Mr. Tarzi ‘s 3 appearances on Cereal at Midnight !! Loved the interviews by Heath (what he and others are doing .) I’m definitely enjoying Kino’s output - you’ve quickly joined the ranks of all the top specialty labels . Quick question - in terms of made for tv horror , where do the rights stand and ability to handle remastering for : The Norliss Tapes , The Intruder Within and I Desire ?? Anchor Bay put out Norliss Tapes some time ago and it is awesome , along the same lines as Kolchak / Nightstalker ; I was in jr. High when Intruder Within and I Desire came out and felt they were both the kinds of made for tv horror that would appeal in a big way to the home video fans . I Desire had a great cast and was kind of an 80’s take on the Nightstalker / vampire in a modern setting story ….. with David Naughton , Batbara Stock and Brad Dourif ….. I’m surprised it hasn’t made its way out to home video and have to imagine there’s some kind of complicated legal issue going on . Any chance Kino would be able to get these 3 ??

What do you mean "based shoes" (or shows) or whatever? Are they YT channels? Btw, if you're looking for a possible answer to your question from Kino, try keeping your comments shorter and more to-the-point. It's too much to read + even longer to give a proper response. I've found if I keep my posts/questions short n sweet, I'm usually much more likely to get a response from the channel--I'm guilty of over-explaining myself (as you can see, haha).

sorry for the delay.... "based shoes" was a typo, typing / auto correct that I missed as I feverishly typed my response. I am not sure what that was specifically supposed to be now. it was probably a general reference to all the KZbin home video shows , in particularly Heath / Cereal at Midnight...as he has had the most regular guests from film / tv / home video , going over film reviews, home video releases and reviews, as well as thought provoking videos on all kinds of topics about film, criticism , production, ethics, etc..... fascinating and informative. Without folks like him, maybe we wouldn't have Frank Tarzi and Kino with a dedicated channel. I'm happy to see Kino's take on their releases and the film industry, and specialty label industry.

@@jesse0219 I'd still love to ask Kino to see if it's possible to get the home video rights to The Norliss Tapes, I Desire and Intruder Within..... any chance those could be researched for home video release , since they were horror based , and would probably have a better chance of selling ? I Desire, was an 80's take on Vampires in a modern setting (combining An American Werewolf in London, with The Nightstalker), Intruder Within was an earth based setting (oil rig) , that was a take on Alien; Norliss Tapes, I think was by Dan Curtis, and had a Nightstalker / X Files feel. I'd love to hear how hard or easy the rights acquisitions are, as well as gaining access to the tapes or camera negatives.

I worked in physical record stores for many years, starting in 1973, and some of them were new and used, so I had the same advice for folks collecting records. Buy what you love.

I was a long time employee of Best Video (now Best Video Film and Cultural Center) in Hamden, Ct. I had to retire due to illness. We have been a rental and retail store around since 1985, now a non-profit. Thank you for your passion about film. We are currently working on a documentary feature on the store and physical media directed by Gorman Bechard. Love the podcast.

Fantastic discussion! Found this through The Digital Bits and have subscribed to the channel. Super excited to hear about the Xanadu release! Since it's Kino Lorber I'm hoping it won't be a bare bones job like previous releases. As already noted, the Making of Xanadu TV special would be a great inclusion, and if there are any deleted scenes or such in the vault that would be great to see. It seems like there is a wealth of material that could be included, and if this is done right it will be a first day purchase from me, even though I don't have a 4k player or TV. My personal wish would be a soundtrack CD included that also has the songs that were only released as B-sides to the singles, and some or all of the score as well. I'm not saying that's possible or even feasible, but I wanted to put that out in the world just in case! Thank you so much!

WALL TO WALL??? I was manager there! They shortened the name to The Wall because they found that everyone referred to them as just, The Wall. One of their busiest stores was in Rockaway NJ, I looked at moving there to take it over. I can’t believe it’s coming back!

Phenomenal news about the XANADU 4K! It has been my Favorite Film since it was released - I was 5 years old! I've owned the film on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, and Blu-ray. I know this 4K will probably be the last chance to have the definitive release of the film. Please try to obtain the rights to the MAKING XANADU television special that was broadcast back in 1980. It includes on set interviews, as well as filming of a deleted scene. It is viewable here on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3WYh5eihc2Yj6ssi=rBN8dvWQdX1aoZxQ In addition, there was also an episode of MIDNIGHT SPECIAL that featured Olivia Newton-John performing songs from the film. This would be an additional great bonus to include.

We don't believe the disc goes away, we believe it all lives together for a very long time - people BUY what they LOVE!! - and they stream what they LIKE... We've been strong in Blu-ray for over a decade, but our biggest growth area over the past 4 yrs is in 4K UHD authoring & encoding... HDR10+ is popular but Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is premier!

Any Twentieth Century Studios classic films on the horizon? Namely: The Towering Inferno 50th anniversary, The Poseidon Adventure, and/or the original (1968) Planet of the Apes? I know it’s a long shot all three are long overdue for 4k refreshes.

Dear dollar store Guillermo Del Toro, believe it or not, some people actually enjoy foreign films. It's SHOCKING, I know, but we exist and we're NOT posers.
