In 2017 Megan Nolan claimed the laptop containing the only copy of her unpublished debut novel had been stolen and, by an amazing coincidence, her Google Docs backup of same had also mysteriously vanished. She appealed to the public for help, but never tweeted the make or model of the laptop or where it was stolen. Very generously, members of the public raised almost £6,000 to buy her a new laptop. Megan accepted this donation and has never mentioned the missing laptop ever again in publicity around her books even though you'd think it would be a nice story of how she repaid the faith of her readers.

The justgiving page says "Weʼve raised £5,756 to help Megan get her novel back." and that anything over 5K was to be donated to another charity. The only reference to the old laptop was "Last night, Megan had her laptop stolen. Due to an error backing up the manuscript, her novel has been lost." Sounds like the plot of the next novel!
