You guys have managed to make an incredibly confusing video, too many wires and switches for a "simple" guide. You should really re-do this video with a single switch installation and no neutral line.

You still need the neutral. They cleverly call it no neutral because they designed it to be back fed from the neutral through the line. Shady as hell if you ask me. I don't have neutral in switches so I bought this. Surprise! You still need the neutral

@@justinanderson8518 You dont need the neutral you just need the bypass card installed in parallel with the light if its a non incandescent bulb.

Adding 2 switches confuses the issue. It should be 1 switch and no bypass.

Didn't make any sense to me either, 'we have a device that doesn't need Neutral but lets use the bypass cable and connect to the Neutral???

@@martinparkinson935 The video is not very clear - but basically you wire the bypass in line with your load / bulb not at the switch end. So if you have a ceiling rose for instance you would connect it here to the positive and negative. The bypass is just a device that adds a load onto the circuit.

@@nicksunny The bypass device simply is a load that ensures a little current flow to the shelly. So the shelly gets Live directly and Neutral through the Load (paralelled with the bypass). That is enough power for the shelly to run. So to speak via higher impedance neutral.

Why a double switch with only 1 lamp, why a socket, why extra wires that you don't use. This makes it unclear to me. And as a tip, film from above. I mainly see hands now, but I would like to see the cabling.

Would be nice to do a video explaining differences between Shelly1 vs Shelly1L (vs Shelly 1P), not so clear the No Neutral option. also does Shelly 1L could be used in a Multiway switching (Montage va-et-vient) wiring ? (inverter switch), thank you !

Ok so i'm no electrician, but isen't the idea of a bypass device to use that when you DON'T have a neutral avail to hook up into the shelly? Here you connect the neutral to the bypass witch in my mind defets the purpose of it since you could have just have connected the neural to the shelly? Or did i missunderstand everything? :)

The video is confusing, here's what I make of it: The bypass is to be placed near the lamp, where you have a Neutral cable. Cut the L(switch) cable going coming from the switch and going to the lamp in two parts, near the lamp (preferable in a connection box) and connect them again using a WAGO. Here you also insert the bypass (when light or whatever doesn't meet the minimum 20W resistive load). Then also cut the N (preferable in same connection box) and reconnect them again using a WAGO and insert the other bypass wire here too. The Bypass sits between and connects the 2 WAGO clamps (let's call them the L clamp and the N clamp). What I'm not sure of, is when the light or whatever does meet the minimum 20W resistive load. I think you still need to connect a wire between the 2 WAGO clamps (N & L). The wire replaces the bypass device.

Basically the bypass is needed to power up the device catching the neutral backward.

It's great that you made a video about this device, but it's hard to follow. Wiring is messed up - why are there three wires connecting a switch to the shelly? What are white wires? The message at 3:15 is very confusing - what are you trying to say there? Do i need to wire a separate live wire to the shelly?

Hello! :) You should power SW1 and SW2 directly from Sx. This is what is shown on the wiring in the top right.

What is the difference ?! You still need neutral to connect to just using a different port! So it's actually not possible to control without neutral. Am I missing something something obvious? The setup in the video is confusing.

You dont need the neutral where you install the shelly (generally behind an existing button where in renovation you only have the phase from the main electric box). You just need to add the « by pass » in parallel of your load (generally a light bulb) which is already by nature connected on one hand side to you ‘cutted’ phase and on the other side to the neutral going to your main electric box. (Sorry i’m not native speaker, what i name phase is the « L » entry and what i call main electric box is where you have your different electric lines with their own power breakers)

I love how their video says the bypass is required but it is an additional item you have to purchase. On the website they describe it as optional. "No neutral" is extremely deceptive. Now that I bought it I still DO NEED the neutral and going to have to pull the ceiling fan apart to access the neutral up there because they didn't run them to the switches. Still having to access and tie into the the NEUTRAL is NOT what no neutral means to me...

well its what it means to basically everyone else lol, no neutral means no neutral in the switch box, electronics dont run on magical fairy dust. Your other option would be to destroy your roof or wall or both to rerun modern electrical cabling to your devices

If you're confused about how to wire the shelly 1L without a neutral cable to the switch, check kzbin.info/www/bejne/enqaenWYnq1nopI. The image at 7:26 shows the connections clearly. Just keep in mind that you'll most likely have to put the bypass in the ceiling and not at the switch because it effectively connects the live to the neutral.

I agree with others that this video makes little sense. I know you use the clamps for easy demonstration but I think it would work better to show it being done as if we were actuality wiring it. Also, if you're going to claim it doesn't use neutral, don't show the neutral hookup? I vaguely understand it doesn't need that wire but not how you bypass it if you literally don't have a neutral wire to use.

nice attempt but while this Shelly 1L is adviced as "little" and easy to fit, it is hard to fit in exsisting electrical system due too many wires to connect. You'll have problems to fit or close your wall switch box. Good item for "funny tests" but nothing else.

I know there’s an army of die hard fans here, but I struggle to understand, why do you not put extra wires in the box? For god’s sake how much extra would 3 5cm coloured wires cost you, like $0.12? Less? Why crappy Chinese Meross can put them in the package and you can’t? Can you release a Shelly 1LW, W - stands for wires in the box? Jesus

This is a bad explanation of No-Neutral wiring setup. Very confusing and complex. Wire layout demonstrated was not clear, especially where and how the Bypass dongle connects. I had to watch other videos to figure this out. Shelly needs to improve this video, otherwise the unclear wiring instructions discourages buying these... why not just show a room wall switch and light install. 🤔 annoying music too, which adds to frustration when having to rewatch the video a hundred times to figure out what you are doing with wires all over the place.
