EnderFire 11 i know, the amount time she was in there broke my heart too! So glad she found her forever family! I volunteer at a local shelter in the city I live in & I try to give extra love & time to the dogs who have been there the longest; the ones who seem kind of forgotten. But just last week a big, stocky bull terrier mix got adopted & we all cried because he was there so long (5 years) & we all got so attached to him (esp this summer spending so much time together) but seeing him leave w/ his new forever family made our hearts soar! 😊😭 He had the biggest, goofiest smile on his face! It makes me happy every time I think about it!

I’m 64, I’ve had multiple dogs, plus cats sometimes, my entire life. I’ve learned a lot about dogs throughout the years. Early this year two of our three dogs passed. It’s was heartbreaking. We’re finally ready to adopt again. This video’s inspired me to adopt the dog/dogs which have been at our local shelter the longest. Thank you very much, you’re good souls. Best Wishes to you & Pirate.

why they left a dog in cage for 7 years if its a cage the way im thinking of this place needs to be shut down the humane societies ive visited are usually just a way to make money some allow the dogs to live and enjoy and help besides food and water or paper and some stuff them in a cage until they start barking and dying from a lack of motivation it might be a good place a bunch are not usually government funded ones and hopefully it is but i would never give credit to a so called humane society those places are more messed up then dog pounds sometimes i get euthinization is sad but picking a dog up from a bad humane society is sadder in the sense that you are leaving multiple dogs behind sorry for not being more specific @Lizbit smith / lizbit idiot

@starlite335 жыл бұрын
@@Jim26D yes it is terrible and it doesn't seem right, but I don't know what the short term solution is when there are not enough spaces or no kill kennels available and not enough people to adopt the dogs. Here in Michigan every six months or so there is a news report of a discovery of a dog hoarder who has 50, 75, or even more dogs in their house and the dogs are living and dying in horrible conditions. I think sometimes these dog hoarders think they are doing the right thing by taking in dogs to keep them from being executed at dog pounds but dog hoarding like that is not the answer either.

People who pass by the senior dogs just don't know what they're missing! Yes, you'll lose them a lot sooner than with a puppy or younger dog, which is always very sad. But I always adopt seniors because they're pretty much ready to go, usually needing little training- plus they're just so very special and deserve to live the rest of their lives comfortable and well loved! I'm now on my 5th..

I agree. I've had the puppy before, and yes it's sweet, but it's a lot of work!! I've been privileged to adopt 2 dogs (at different times) both age five! And it, to me, is the BEST dog age ever! One was male, the next female, and it didn't matter- they were just so perfectly aged! They were what I called "set in their ways" and you pretty much "get what you see" with them! Plus! They really never lose the "puppy" in them either. Not until it's time to pass on anyways. Unfortunately for my first baby Bogee, we have had to go thru that experience. With my 2nd baby girl, she is luckily with my mom now. My family became homeless and I was so blessed that my mom had always loved Patrone, and had always wished she could take her! Lol. So when her house burnt down, and she lost her fur babies- and then I was having to move out of our home- a perfect solution came about! Mama got to love on Patrone the way she loved her own babies. And we didn't have to lose Patrone, or give her to someone we didn't know! I really miss having her in my bed at night though. And we have our own home again- but I couldn't imagine asking to take her back from my mom. It's kind of a hard thing, but a very good thing. If that makes sense?? I'm rambling and crying now. Just give older dogs a chance!! They're amazing!! ❤

Squad Gangsta It's not a 50/50 chance that it will be aggressive. Shelter dogs make great pets and mutts are usually more healthy than pure-bred dogs and if you get an adult dog, there's a good chance that it's already house broken and past its chewing stage.

I'll tell ANYBODY who will listen that older dogs make the BEST pets EVER!! Most shelters (I believe) have a senior for seniors programs, so you can pick up a senior dog for nothing. They're happy to get the older dog out of the shelter and YOU get a NEW best friend.

I've always adopted shelter/rescue dogs and cats. I usually always look for the oldest dogs since there isn't as much time to give them the love and happiness they need and deserve, or I look for the dog that's been there the longest. I've NEVER regretted taking the oldest or neediest dog. They've all been absolutely wonderful companions, whether for a short time, or a long time. Dogs and cats are just wonderful and they live in the moment, so we humans should try to make EVERY moment count for them!

It's wonderful that this young couple were prepared to adopt a senior dog. I however need to add: and I mean this straight from my heart. To spend 7 years in a shelter is beyond traumatic, their spirits are broken, and they give up on life. I've worked in a shelter such as these, so it's first hand. This was one blessed dog to be found, but the big picture is - what about other dogs in similar circumstances? The broken spirit of the others in that environment can't surely stay in a shelter -- for how long? As painful as it sounds, in severe cases, it's sometimes best to 'set their spirits free' and more kind to be put to sleep. As I said, I have experienced worse situations such as these and it's heartbreaking. This precious dog is but in the minority. I'm saying this with much love and I trust our dog lovers out there will understand my sincere feeling. ❤

IF there's anything I've learned through your videos is that every single living thing deserves a chance at life, and how ashamed I am at myself for the assumptions I was taught growing up that deterred me from animals who needed love. From "pitbulls are aggressive" to "old dogs are bad" to "bats should be exterminated". I hate so deeply that I was taught these short sighted and honestly heartbreaking notions. I was wrong. And if I'm ever in a position to give to a being lesser off than I, without question I will. Thank you for educating me and for showing me the deepest meanings of what true love and compassion mean.

Thats the right attitude to have! Im working on doing better myself! I work in sled dog racing. It flies in the face of all of that. These mushers breed and displace so many animals. the care standards are abysmally low. Its a really hard thing to be breeding these dogs to be doing (win a race). So much horrible stuff goes on you people wouldn't even believe me. The documentary "sled dogs" is basically my life. We really need to push to make sled dog racing illegal.
