I love how you added the Streets of Rage theme to this. Sometimes, I even wonder if this feature was a nod to the Streets of Rage series.

Glad to hear you liked the inclusion! That's exactly what I thought too. I remember thinking: "This kind of feels like playing a true 3D Streets of Rage game!". Being a huge fan of both series, and being Yuzo Koshiro involved in both Streets of Rage and Shenmue, I knew I couldn't go wrong! 🤩

And you know, this got me thinking, just like they did Streets of Kamurocho, where they made the first Streets of Rage 2 stage with Yakuza characters, it'd be cool if they did the same thing with Shenmue characters. It could have Ryo and Guizhang as playable characters, fighting against the Mad Angels game, based the 70 Man Battle. I wish SEGA did something like that.

@@gr8gmr That sounds like a brilliant idea, a “Streets of Yokosuka” kind of game would be an instant hit! It’s too bad SEGA is completely blind in this regard and will never give Shenmue a proper chance again… I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see them making anything Shenmue-related that’s worthwhile.

Glad to hear you enjoyed my combo videos! I'll definitely be making a few others once I manage to collect some other interesting clips. Would be great if I could also include highlights from Shenmue II but, truth be told, I'm terrible at playing Shenmue II, so I'm not getting my hopes up!

Thank you so much for the kind words, it's a great honor to be associated with Kenjito! His videos were the spark that made re-evaluate Shenmue's combat system and see it on a completely different light. I've since fallen in love with it and I've found myself speedrunning the 70 Man Battle and researching mechanics for fun. Shenmue truly is something very special.

Yeah, but that 8 second takedown requires an absurd amount of luck! 2 consecutive Tiger Storms that Pedro doesn’t dodge (and that almost never happens), and on top of that, they must also trigger the Wall damage glitch (which in itself is a trick mostly based on luck)... I only got it work one time in the span of 3+ years, just to put it in perspective. 🤯 Without the use of glitches or exploits, I’d say a good Pedro fight takes roughly between 40 to 55 seconds, depending on luck and skill of course, so 1 minute is still a good time. ✌
