Shepherds, Warriors, Healers - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, as we resume Ordinary Time, I want to talk to you about vocations-specifically, vocations to the priesthood. Our Gospel for today from Matthew shows us the call of the priest: to be a shepherd of lost sheep, a warrior against unclean spirits, and a healer of sin-sick souls-one that teaches and preaches and proclaims the kingdom of God. This summons from Christ has been the greatest joy in my life. If you are feeling the call, don’t ignore it; follow it.

Let it be known to all: Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit! Hear me when I say, ye that are Catholic have been deceived and know not God. Ye worship Mary, praying to her; when God tells his to worship none other than him. It is idolatry. Catholicism has its own Bible and teachings, which are blasphemous to the word of God: the Holy Bible. As ye follow the teachings of man and not God; ye hear the pope, but not Jesus, yet ye claim to be his disciples! These are but a few things I named ye dwell within; there are many more. I tell you now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father! There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you! They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God... Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask: "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen." Revelation 22:8-9 KJV 8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. I have been feeling drawn to the priesthood for almost 3 years now and recently decided to go for it. I applied and will start the adventure after summer. To anyone thinking about it for a longer period of time.. find yourself a good spiritual director and go through the descerning together, you can't do it alone! And than make a decision, and if you decide to go for it, in the first year especially you will have plenty of time to discern your call more deeply. It is worth it to go deeper into discerning because you also have to dig very deeply into your soul and I have found healing and my faith has definetly grown during that time!

I wish I could have pursued this path as I, too, had the calling when I was a young man. I am 55 now and have come to understand this is too old for the priesthood. That’s too bad because I think I’d make a better priest at 55 than I ever would have at 25. Either way, I chose marriage and family and don’t regret it but, in a way, I do regret not pursuing the priesthood. I can think of no more rewarding work than helping people on this level. The Spirit must have fallen on Bishop Barron mightily. He is the shepherd of us and how we love to be in his flock as he guides us to our Lord Jesus Christ. We need priests from cradle to grave and every step in between those milestones. I pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. What priests do for us is so profound. No one but a priest can change the bread and wine to the Body and Blood of Christ. No one can heal us of the nastiness of sin but a priest who stands in for our Lord. Happy Father's Day Bishop Barron. A great sermon, but what struck me were the intonations of your voice when you spoke of your calling. Wow, it must be a wonderful feeling. We had a nun in our family, Sister Mary Angela who had the calling at age 13. She spoke of it often and inspired us all with her commitment to the Lord and to the Ursula order. She was also living proof of Christ's healing power since she beat cancer twice in her life and lived to 95. Still working from the other side she brought family members together that returned to the faith. I love her and miss her so much. Blessings to you and to the whole world!

In this time of worldly and spiritual turmoil, Bishop Barron maintains a sense of calm without failing to project the urgency of the message. Please pray for me and my children prayers are all I NEED. I know Jesus is coming back soon! So it is vital to trust in Jesus even when we are going through a challenging situations. Jesus I trust in you even as I struggle providing for my children. Jesus hear my prayers. Since covid I fell on a terrible hardship. I lost my job for declining the vaccine. I declined due to my pre existing health conditions. I suffer from lupus, and heart disease. I’m a single mom, my husband is with God. My children are autistic. I’m overwhelmed because I’m struggling to provide for my children. I’m now waitressing and I’m so thankful but not making nearly enough. Jesus hear my prayers. Every month is a struggle not to end up on the streets with my boys. Every month I have a hard time coming up with rent. I receive so much hate for simply asking for prayers! It’s discouraging and making me question my religion. My faith is getting weak. The devil wants me to give up but God won’t allow it. I have faith that God will provide he has this far. All things are possible through Jesus Christ Faith over fear! ❤ 0:09

I pray that you find rest in some places in the world, and know that this is how God will comfort you. Do not mistrust everybody but rather trust in the strength of God to restore this broken world and all us sinners. Hold on to your faith. Jesus is faithful to you. Allow yourself to be weak when you cannot find the strength within you to do everything and once. Think about what is most important, and use the strength you receive for that. You will flourish and your children will flourish. God will not leave you. I pray that you come to know this so deeply that no worldly storm can trouble you. The war is against the spirits. Saint John Bosco used to say that 75% of young men are called to the priesthood, but many are afraid and don’t answer to it. I’m a priest and that’s the most wonderful and powerful privilege that I would ever have in my life. This was a beautiful, inspirational sermon…on the calling to priesthood. PS. Shepherds are very underrated…it’s a 24/7 job…. and although you don’t think of it as a dangerous job…a good shepherd must be very brave…to fight off the occasional pack of hungry wolves or anything else attempting to harm his flock. So the Shepherd, Warrior, Healer is the perfect title for this sermon. ♥️✝️
