This time of year egg production decreases, but the complaint is that they have gotten ZERO EGGS since beginning of October & when the feed is switched, the eggs are popping out in a day... After all the complaints, Producers Pride (Tractor Supply brand) did admit to changing the formula, but there are a lot of Rural King complaints & they have stayed silent... Some of the complaints I've heard on youtube, are from 20 & 30 year chicken farmers who have never seen this happen before... But there are others who buy from a mill or make their own feed, and like this channel, have had no issues... So who knows? 🤷‍♀

We get our feed from Cal Ranch, and the issue we saw was our pullets didn't start laying in the fall like they normally do. I don't think it's the feed. I think it could be environmental. Like some kind of solar or magnetic something. We didn't switch our feed, and they all are laying, right on cue with everyone else that did switch feed.

We buy the chicken food from tractor supply and rural king and our eggs never slowed down, we have 12 hens and get about 10 eggs most days

I know several people who use pride chicken feed from tractor supply their chickens are laying the same as they did last year. I spoke with a person who was having problems with his chicken laying while to find out they get up around 10 to noon and that is when they feed their chickens they were feeding them once a day and differently not enough feed so we know their problem. The baby's are looking great.

Well Chuck, run those pigs in the woods beside your pasture, a little firewood thinning and reseeding. Get the pastures connected. Take some time but add to your feed for the cows. The egg crisis is pretty intense. I think a lot of the low egg reports are from new to chickens folks. First winter blues. Glad to see an old salt is 5 dozen a day.

That’s how I always load my pigs, no feed for two days before and they all walk right in the trailer. And I raise mine in open paddocks. Three things came together to make the perfect storm with the back yard egg producers. The Arctic cold, be low normal quality of grains because the war in Ukraine and the winter solstice.

Good lookin pigs! I love Duroc/Berkshire mixes! My boar is Duroc x Berkshire/Red Wattle. I had my first farrow born on Jan 22th. It was mama's first farrow and she had 10 total and she lost 2. The remaining 8 are so big and fat! Most of them have dad's wattles too! Oh and mama is a Tamworth/Mangalitsa cross. Thank you for inspiring me to raise pigs and teaching me so much! I hope all is well with you and Saundra! Thanks for sharing!

Here’s an idea….. why not add clear fiberglass panels on that portion of your barn. You can find 12 ft and longer panels online. We used them on our greenhouse, easy to install. That would allow plenty of light in there. That’s a great barn to have.

The December litter of piglets are tanks! They look great! Maybe replace a couple roof panels or part of 2 with clear roof panels or plexiglass to allow more light into the racken area? Do you know what average $ per acre farm land is selling for in your area?

When you castrate your pigs do you band them? I know they do sheep like that but not sure with pigs

No. You have to cut them. Pigs don’t have a scrotum that hangs to put a band around.
