Give it time . What you going through is perfectly normal. Cause almost all foods can give one sugar spikes

I'll definitely be trying some of these out! When I was first diagnosed, the doctors thought I was still in the honeymoon phase when I definitely wasn't and they only gave me long-acting insulin, so I basically had to eat as low-carb as possible to keep my sugars from spiking into the 300s for like a month before I was finally prescribed short-acting, so I had to find low-carb foods fast! My low-carb staples are: -Riced broccoli/cauliflower - mix with some peppers or other veggies and add some spices and you've got a pretty awesome-tasting low-carb stir fry! -Turkey burgers and meatballs - Still a nice high-protein meat without as high of a cholesterol amount as beef -Mixed nuts - like carrots for you, this satisfies my need for something to crunch on without affecting my blood sugars much (I also highly recommend Wonderful's honey roasted pistachios. They taste incredible and are only 7g of carbs per serving!) -Sugar-free Jello - doesn't do much health-wise, but helps satisfy a sweet craving and it's 0g! -I'm gonna double down on eggs because they're incredible lol -Low-sugar Greek yogurt like Two Good or Oikos Triple Zero -Cheese crisps! Also sometimes I'll just eat slices of fresh mozzarella because that stuff is amazing -Also doubling down on dark chocolate! Another suggestion I have is if you like chocolate-covered nuts to get a square or two of dark chocolate and eat it with the nuts instead of buying chocolate-covered nuts because the chocolate-to-nut ratio will be lower without you feeling like it is (if that makes any sense).
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
These are all SUCH excellent suggestions Lora - thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to put this all together!! I'm so sorry you went through all that when you were first diagnosed - my gosh it sounds like you really adjusted quickly out of necessity of course, but I think you should be so proud of yourself! I'm a big riced cauliflower fan! And oh - I'm going to have to try those honey roasted pistachios STAT - I LOVE pistachios and honey roasted!!! Mother May I!!! Thank you once again for taking the time to share all of this - absolutely wonderful!!!

Thanks for sharing! You have a beautiful energy and you're a joy to watch. I also have been really into the lemon ginger drink lately, I have it in the morning and I do a few thin slices of ginger. When I'm done with the drink the ginger is soft from the hot water and I actually eat it. Sooo good for digestion. Or I put it in a smoothie later. And I always have a generous supply of dark chocolate in my house too. Priorities 😅 Some of my go-to's throughout the day are sliced cucumber and carrots with a few kalamata olives and vegan feta cheese (the brand Violife, so so good). Fresh fruit with nuts or nut butter. Larabars. Avocado toast + eggs for breakfast. Salmon + veg + sweet potato for dinner. @pickledrick51583 жыл бұрын
@@ShesDiabetic Yeah I do feel happier than ever, high variability in BG does a lot of harm to you. High BG is the most inflammatory condition cells can experience. I was amazed by the changes you experience with true normal BG levels. For non metabolically impaired individuals the target appears to be 76 to 83 mg/dl, postpartdial 2 hrs back to the 80s and at the metabolic peak no higher than 125 mg/dl. I seen all my healthy family members wife, brothers and their blood sugars never go above 120. Interesting how the ADA range is 140 to 180 mg/dl for diabetics! Not healthy at all!
@quadgirl10112 жыл бұрын
Pickled Rick - out of curiosity, how many carbs do you eat per day? Great results for you, I see! Thanks.
@pickledrick51582 жыл бұрын
@@quadgirl1011 I try to be consistent and eat literally the same meal every day (sizing and protein content). Generally based on my weight and height I need 14-16 oz of animal protein a day. I split that into 2 meals and do intermittent fasting. Fasting is also incredibly important, you see the difference in insulin requirements after a 16 Hr fasting. In regards to carbohydrates my goal is less than 30g a day. Generally in two 15g meals. However those 15g are always from vegetable and or nut/seeds sources. I would not eat a 15g slice of bread as it would shoot my blood sugar out of range. If you want to learn more check Dr. Bernstein Diabetes University on KZbin he has videos explaining this approach in great detail. If you have complications they tend to fully reverse after a few years of euglycemic range. For me took 24 months to recover my eGFR to non diabetic levels (around 100). Before I had subclinical DKD as he describes eGFR of 84.

Great video, fewer carbs is a essential for control and longevity in diabetes. "low Carb" is such a broad term that it can mean anywhere from 10 grams of carbs/day to 500 grams or more to some. Would you share your macros(Fat/protein/carb) for your average day? What HbA1C are you comfortable maintaining?
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
I don't have any macro goal I'm trying to hit per se, I find that (for me personally) it's not very good idea to get to obsessed with that kind of thing, otherwise it can tip into an unhealthy obsession. But that's totally just a personal thing. I like to keep my HbA1C between 5-6 regularly. I hope this helps! 💙
@AkaiMiso3 жыл бұрын
@@ShesDiabetic Thanks for sharing! I'd say An HbA1c between 5-6, unfortunately, is better than average for most diabetics. As diabetics we do have to pay more attention to our food. I suppose to a lesser extent than many professional athletes, but in their case we would call it sports nutrition rather than unhealthy obsession. haha Thanks again for sharing!

Great question! I would really encourage you to speak to a dietitian - since I am definitely not someone with an expert knowledge of food and nutrition! Since I 'discovered' almond milk I rarely use regular milk anymore. I seem to have always gone high when I have cereal in the morning with regular milk but it doesn't happen much anymore. If I go low, milk is, for a reason I can't fathom, faster than OJ at rectifying the situation. I also tried almond flour pancakes this morning, but I didn't realize how many fewer carbs they had than normal pancakes and ended up going low. It's so expensive (IMHO) at $5.88/lb I probably won't buy it often. If all the paperwork is approved I'll be getting a Tandem pump soon so I won't have to stab myself 4x/day. I had a C-peptide test a couple days ago.

@@ShesDiabetic I just found out a couple hours ago with the Tandem rep that my C-Peptide result isn't bad enough for Medicaid to cover since my endo's official diagnosis is type-2 diabetes with hyperglycemia. My 90-day A1C (according to Dexcom) is 6.8, the same as it was in December and barely better than June. It's frustrating!!!
@garyausten59393 жыл бұрын
@@ShesDiabetic I got a welcome surprise yesterday at the endo's office. Last time I had my A1C checked the Dexcom was .2 lower than my actual fingerstick test last December (6.8 vs 7.0). This time the Dexcom was higher. My A1C was 6.2, my lowest number in years :). I'm also going to start carb counting and started a log today to share with the dietician (video conference a week from Monday). Question - how do you even begin to estimate carbs from something like leftover takeout Chinese food. I don't think Calorie King has any categories for that kind of thing.
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
@@garyausten5939 that is FANTASTIC!!!!! You should be so proud of yourself!!!!! WOW WOW WOW!! How inspiring!!! With regards to your leftover Chinese food question...oh goodness me I don’t even know what to say! I think if you focus on what you can carb count with regards to other foods (I’m a big fan of the carbs and Cals app) then these little abnormal guesstimating meals are okay because they’re not all the time? Just my personal thought process! If you’ve also ever made something similar at home you can ramp up that carb count (because they’ll be more sugar, carbs, etc in the takeout version) and use that kind of as a sliding scale? Just some ideas for you there! I just think you should be so proud of yourself and I’m so happy for you!!!! Well well done!!! ❤️🥰🤗🥳👏🏻

@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
I think because diabetes is such an individual disease you should find a goal that works for you in terms of in range time. I do think in-range time is one of if not the most valuable thing we can do to keep our diabetes in check and potential long term complications to a minimum - just me thoughts though! I'm not a doctor obviously! I hope this helps my friend! 💙

Noticed that you talked about eating fish and eggs. Does that mean you are no longer vegan? Can you share why you changed? As you say, we are always interested in what people eat!
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine! Sure! I hear you on the curiosity front - of course I'm the exact same! Basically I started eating eggs and fish and meat because I was having horrendous stomach problems and was no longer able to tolerate the amount of fiber a vegan diet comes along with. I'm still battling stomach problems but am able to get more energy from my food by introducing more animal sources. This has been very difficult for me because I so so so loved eating in a vegan way, and still am obsessed with my veggies - but just can't tolerate them in the quantity you need to ensure you're getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals, at least at this point in my health journey. I hope this helps shed a little more light on my reasoning for switching! And thank you as always and every for caring and being interested! I hope you're well! 💙

@@ShesDiabetic Thank you. We are all well but sick of the stay at home order. Our daughter has needed to come home for an extend stay a number of times over the last couple of years. Although we love to have her, she takes over the cooking and usually cooks at least 5 vegetables at each dinner. That quantity just wreaks havoc with my digestion. We are going to have a talk with her when she comes home in the spring. She’s determined to keep us healthy but.......!!! Thank you sharing this with me. I thought I was the only one who had this issue.

Can U please tell me how long does a Diabetic Seizure last.Am a T1D.Say if during seizures there is no one to help and in semi-conscious active seizure mode I donot find something sweet to drink or eat , what will happen will I die??.

I have never personally had or known anyone else to have a diabetic seizure, so I'm sorry I just can't really shed any light on this topic. I'm hoping someone else might be able to chime in, but really also encourage you to speak to your doctor about this and create a game plan, should this happy to keep you safe. I hope this helps you my friend, I really don't want you to feel alone because you are most certainly not!! 💙

I use “half and half” cream for my coffee and tea and it doesn’t seem to affect my blood sugar at all. 2 tablespoon has only 1 gram of carb. Another thing I like is 2% milk fat cottage cheese which has only 3 grams of carb for a 1/2 cup serving.

There are a thousand people out there telling you what to eat and what not to eat. What about insulin ? I am type one using a long and a fast with a CGM mater. I can stay in the lines on my Dexcom 6G meter about 85 present of the time. I need help. Is this subject taboo? Norby
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
That's fantastic Norby! I don't think there's anything taboo about talking about insulin, but just like food, it's all so personal so I think that tends to be why (at least I) don't talk about my insulin dosages because there's no point - they're so so personal to my bodily needs and thus wouldn't help anyone on this channel that isn't me, if that makes sense. I hope this helps, and that you enjoyed the video nevertheless!

Do you have do subtract any fibre from your carbohydrates on anything you eat ?
@zohramanji222825 күн бұрын
No, I do not. I think years ago they were telling us to, but apparently they were wrong, lol. Fiber is carbs and it still causes blood sugar to rise. I eat “keto” wraps that are 22g of carbs and 20g of fiber but if I don’t take insulin for 22 carbs, my blood sugar spikes up.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to ask for some help here :) so for starters, I am in my early teens and have been diabetic for just over a year and with being so young I am also very irresponsible. Does anyone have any tips to make eating low carb easier? any help will be great! (also I am in the process of switching to a closed-loop pump so if anyone has anything they'd like to share about that would also be helpful :])

Hi How to do a correction when blood sugar rises in the middle of the night I do a correction every two hours and it stays high😔
@darioflood73263 жыл бұрын
If you’re not eating big dinners (over 90g of carbs) you’ll probably need more long acting insulin. If you’re eating big dinners (over 90g carbs), you will need to split your insulin injections. I usually assume 30g carb digestion per hour, which means I’ll inject for the first 90g, then 3 hours later I will inject for the rest. ** remember, rapid acting insulin (e.g. novorapid) is typically effective for about 3 to 4 hours, hence the 90g for the first split.
@ShesDiabetic3 жыл бұрын
Dario raises some absolutely excellent points above. I would look at what you're eating for dinner, and perhaps try something different/lower in carb/take more insulin with it. However, if your blood sugar is stable post dinner, and only rising in the middle of the night, you may want to look at increasing your long acting (or basal rates) overnight so that you can avoid those spikes, especially if they're happening on a consistent basis regardless of what you eat for dinner, say. I hope this helps!! 💙
