I think the display for the app for that new pump should look and do exactly what the current Tandem does just that the touch screen is your phone and not on the pump.

@@az.az466 If you are talking about Tandem, a tubeless pump is in their future. The FDA just approved Tandem's mobi ( Tandem's smallest insulin pump with a 4 to 5 inch tube which should be available to the public sometime early in 2024), and next out should be a t-slimx3. After that is supposed to be a tubeless variety.

Thank you, Andrea, for clarifying. I watched your videos about the T-slim and Control IQ and I commented once to you. I've had diabetes for 44 years. I've been on shots, Medtronic, Omnipod Dash and 5 and was forced off the Omnipod 5 because Medicare did not cover it for me. I was so devastated. However, You were a great encouragement to me and now I LOVE the T-slim and Control IQ. I cannot believe the amount of time in range. Especially every night! I am in the 90% range and higher sometmes. Its been a month now on T-slim and although I do miss the ease of the Omnipod easy site change and no tube, I really do LOVE how good I feel and it's been worth it to me. I totally understand the freedom of the tubeless pump though and I am so glad that it's working out good for you! Thank you for your videos. I love to watch them and I am very encouraged.

And I thank you so very much for watching the videos and enjoying them! Truly it’s comments like yours that keep me fired up and wanting to make more and more and more content - and INSPIRE ME!!! Andrea, I am a 25 year old Type 1 Diabetic who just barely started using a Dexcom G6. I was curious about Omnipod because it was advertised on Satellite TV about a year and a half ago, and I was interested, but knew next to nothing about it. My Grandfather is also a type 1 and he has been on a Tandem T-Slim insulin pump for YEARS. My Clinical Pharmacist recently recommended me a Tandem T-Slim X2 program a while back and I was hesitant to jump on the tubed pump bandwagon because I had multiple diabetic family members use the 19 plus year old Medtronic Minimed pumps to varying degrees of success. I don’t know if you ever used a 2000’s Medtronic pump, but seeing those as a kid freaked my head out to diabetes (I was diagnosed at 18) and it wasn’t until my Grandpa got the T-Slim around 2015 that my perspective shifted around the stigma and stereotype of all insulin pumps having a steep learning curve and a non-intuitive UI. I’m currently on multiple daily pen injections with Humalog Kwikpen and Lantus Solostar and my Doctor strongly encourages me to consider a pump at every visit. This video and your most recent upload were really helpful, and I want to start on pumps with Omnipod 5 and then transition into Tandem T-Slim X2 or Mobi in a couple years when I’m more comfortable. Is using one to transition to another an okay approach since I am not a fan of tubes or body wiring and would prefer tubeless? My biggest fear with tubed pumps is infusion sets getting in the way.

Thank you so much for sharing all of the above with me! My answer is honestly do what you feel is best and makes you most comfortable. We already live with a condition that we didn't choose - the last thing we should do is be forced into treating it in ways we aren't comfortable with! Personally, I can tell you the infusion sets were very very rarely a nuisance for me, but I do prefer the tubeless Omnipod 5 becuase I feel less like I 'have something attached to me' - if that makes sense. But bottom line...you should do what makes you most comfortable, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise ❤️! I hope this helps!

I literally do this channel for the love of it. I truly don't get any perks out of it (besides being part of the Dexcom Warrior Program in the UK where I get my sensors gifted, but that started before this channel started). I think a lot of people think I get gifted things or it's easier for me, but nope, I struggle in the exact same way.

I used tubed pumps for years (various Medtronic pumps and then Animas pumps). When I switched to Omnipod back in 2017, I was immediately in love and have not considered anything since. Being tubeless is SOOOO NICE. It is a huge quality of life improvement, especially in the summer months when we're around water. I just did a day-long kayaking trip with my family. With a tubed pump, that trip would have been so stressful but with Omnipod I didn't give it a second thought. I use Omnipod Dash with DIY Loop so my iPhone is the controller and it is a very nice set up.

Oh I’m so curious about the DASH/loop setup! Something tells me it would be better than the OP5 algorithm. Having always been on a tubed pump that’s all I knew until starting the OP5, and I completely agree - it’s just a HUGE HUGE HUGE quality of life improvement! Astounding!! I’m so grateful to now have this freedom!

This makes me happy and sad. I have a son similar to your age on the t-slim. He has been on it for 4 years. When your pump needs replaced for some reason, it is replaced with a refurbished pump. Those are previously problem pumps . In his case, replacement pumps are constantly malfunctioning and you need another one and another one and another one....... We are currently waiting on our 4th replacement this year. It isn't just that it needs replaced. It is that it gradually becomes worse and worse until boom, it will not go any further. And as it begins to need replaced again, it is not trustworthy of when it is working correctly and when it isn't so blood sugars are much harder to figure out. I follow many people on the t-slim and they say they have experienced the same. The replacement pumps are trash quite often. So I am happy you love, love, love your experience with yours. I just feel so sad and aggrivated with Tandem for not replacing broken pumps with an actual new pump. Our experience never seems to be as happy as yours.

I’ve been using my tslim since June, my first pump ever, and the only time I hate the tubing is when I’m at the beach! I don’t mind the aspect of taking it off, but once I reconnect and I’m wearing a wet bathing suit I just sort of stand there with the pump in my hand since I can’t clip it to my wet suit. Oh well, soon enough summer will be over and that won’t be an issue anymore

I HEAR YOU! I would actually just clip mine to my suit and didn’t mind it getting a little wet - but yea then it’s like what do I do with the tubing! I’m also a fan of a little shorts cover up situation so it gives you a place to stow it. But like you said - when Summer’s over it’s really not an issue to contend with anymore. All about those compromises I suppose!

Thank you so much for saying that! I know what you mean re the Dexcom - for the most part I can’t feel it, but if I hit a certain spot it can really sting and be a continual nuisance. Personally I have a very low body fat because I do so much work with weights and that really really works against me when it comes to leg sites because my legs are so muscular any pod sites (or tslim sites in general) are very very painful there. So I’m pretty much stuck to love handle area and back of arms. I will say I find the OP5 infusion sit to be more aggressive than the tslim x2’s (at least the TSlim version that I was on)

Especially with warm weather I lose also easy the dexom and infusion set. I now use tenso spray before I stick them in in more then 9/10 cases it stay where it need to stay. When starting losing it, I can also reuse the spray to avoid that, but that is only needed in some exceptional circumstances. I can only recomend this tenso spray!

Thank Andrea, yes: tubeless seems interesting. What about cost, especially since you eere able to purchase a pump, the cost for a pump you own should be cheaper? Here in switzerland, sadly purchasing a pump is not an option, we rent it at huge cost - it's reimbursed - but in the end, everyone pays though the insurance premiums. So I'm definitely looking for a pump that has open source software, can be repaired, and so less reason to change pump, as the software can evolve.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic Жыл бұрын
The cost is such a confusing issue because it really depends on your insurance here in the US, etc, etc, it’s such a mess! For a 3 month supply of Omnipod 5’s and Dexcom G6’s I pay about $250, but then there’s my quarterly insurance payment of $350, so it’s all a bit strange. With the OP5 I didn’t have any large up front cost but I do believe with the TSlim x2 the upfront cost was like $4,000 or something outrageous. At least that pump you can update the software, I don’t believe you can with the OP5. I do think something that’s physically the same but can be updated is a far more sustainable option, I Iike your thinking there!

Thanks Andrea, I can sympathise. The thought of a tubed pump doesn't appeal to me in the slightest so I quite understand! We can't get the omnipod 5 here in the UK except in very severe cases, nor the dexcom 6/7, so I guess I'll stick with MDI

Ah I hear you! Funnily enough I’ve gotten a lot of criticism for wanting a tubeless pump. I find that so strange. Really people should do whatever they feel is best, and the lack of tubing makes a difference and that’s a ok to prioritize, I think! Anyway, I digress! I’m so sorry you’re not able to get the OP5 or Dexcom G6/7 there - I really really REALLY hope that some day soon that changes for you - not because you need it but because the choices are really important for us to have, I think! ❤️

I tried Omnipod 5, but unfortunately, I go through more than 250 units of insulin over a three day period and all the site changes were just ripping my body up. Plus I was finding that the algorithm just wasn't as good as keeping me in range as the tslim was. If Mobi held more than 200 units of insulin, then I would totally switch to Mobi.

Hi Andrea, I'm confused - apart from tubeless in the Omnipod you talk as if the Tandem is the best pump, i.e. you are sacrificing the best pump for a marginally inferior one just because it is tubeless. Maybe I'm reading into it too much? I'd be interesting how they differ in programming and delivery of insulin. Clearly there was some big reason you switched to Omnipod, I'd imagine you wouldn't take it lightly to switch to the Omnipod - is there something you haven't said in the video that would put Omnipod over the line? My 2 younger kids don't have a pump so it'd be really interesting to hear what pros and cons there are between them. Thanks!

I can imagine that poeple prefer tubeless. Many poeple not like have that thing all time connected. In my hospital they try to get poeple on the pump with omnypod because the level to start with seems to be lower because of tubeless. I have already for more then 23 years tubed pumps and so that bother me not anymore. For me is the software more important. Also I need quit a lot insuline, and the reservoirs of the tubeless pomps are smaller. Replacing more then now would bother me more too. But as said here before, everybody is more comfortable with other aspects and that must result in the best pump for that person. Possible I'm wrong on this, but seems big to mee on my arm and I expect that this will result in less comfort at sleep in my case. But I can be wrong on this point. I agree that the algorimthm of the TSlim is superior! I got much better results with this pump then with all previous ones. Between 90 and 92% in range, and a HbA1C of 5.1 makes me happy! The cost is in Belgium not an issue, pump, all material and insulin are for free. The diabetes liga could prove that good and cheap diabetes care cost the the community less then more then 10% of population with bad treated diabetes and so government decided to have good and cheap diabetes care. I'm really happy with that.

Continuous blood glucose is a great novelty and I think it will really make a difference in the long run. Just glancing at my phone or Apple Watch is a massive relief compared to testing manually. From what information I’ve collected the monopod 5 after a year now still isn’t compatible with iOS and G7? Also heard that it doesn’t give auto bolusses for high BS? That it basically jus monitors your nasal? And you still have to bolus for meals of course and also for highs? And you can’t adjust or personalize your own target range? If all this is true sounds like I may just stay on pens linger until this whole tubeless pump thing is more ideal.

All of what you wrote above is trust, aside from the fact that you can personalize your own target glucose. Either you can target 110, 120, 130, 140 or 150. However you can’t say “only keep me between 110-120”, the algorithm will just constant bring your to your glucose target via adjusting the basal only. I hope this makes sense!

I totally think someone who hasn’t been on a pump before could go to the OP5, but there would be growing pains. If tubing doesn’t matter to you I’d definitely choose the TSlim x2 especially if you’re running Control iQ you can virtually eliminate the overnight checking and finally get some sleep! In theory you can get this on the OP5 too, I just personally haven’t seen the overnight control I want to see yet, and in general I absolutely believe that the TSlim algorithm is the superior of the two. I hope that helps!

@@Captain_Gargoylethe good thing about Omnipod is that you can totally try it out for a month sometimes free. If you call Insulet they will also send you a dummy pod to wear for 3 days to see if you’re even comfortable wearing one.

Over night checking??? I know no guy over 50 who sleeps though the night without his bladder intervening.

@@wan2852 it’s one thing to get up once a night to use the bathroom it’s totally another thing to wake up and do finger sticks then have to eat or drink juice several times a night.

I'm waiting for the technology to be so good I'd be doing myself a disservice to not have a pump. Things are getting so good I imagine within a couple years this tube less thing is gonna looks like a crank wheel sewing machine. For me daily injections offers the most freedom ease of use and control over my diabetes still.
