Kimmy, thank you. You inspired me to store food and things several months ago. Then, a "very bad thing" happened. Because you (and a few other KZbin friends) helped me start down the preparedness road, I have food for me and my fur-babies, which will make the money situation slightly less stressful. Also, would appreciate any prayers that any of the community has a moment for.

Dear Lord, You know what Beth is going through. Please be with her, be a shield about her as Psalm 3:3 states! Please be her shepherd and be by her side as she walks through this issue and moves through this triumphantly. No weapon formed against her will prosper. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

I also have a smaller cart on wheels in my food storage room where I put older items or items that don't have a long shelf life so I know to always check that cart first. At times, this cart has inspired me to make a specific meals or recipes using up the older canned/boxed items.

I live in the country on a mountain, we removed a half bath and made it a walk-in pantry, as well as the coat closet in the laundry room snd a kitchen pantry closet. We put shelves and are very happy, we've had this for 35 years and what a life saver. When things are a little tough in the family or with friends they are invited to come shop for 3 meals. Being we are on a mountain we have difficulty with field mice so every thing in sealed in containers or tubs. I'm so excited to glean from your videos and wisdom on pantry organization. Thank you Kimmie 😊

The extra-duty metal shelves are best and won't need to be replaced. Though the very sturdy Rubbermaid shelves look and feel sturyd, if you store canned or bottled goods on them, they will eventually warp and sway from the weight. Had a few of those for only about 3 years, and we ended up having to replace them with the heavy duty metal shelves, so it's worth it to get the good ones in the beginning.

I am so jealous of all that natural light you have in your extended pantry! I have my extended pantry in the basement, which can take on water in heavy rain, and is kind of gloomy. Because of the rain, I have everything on 6-shelf/4ft wide chrome wire racks, and they are on casters so they can be moved around if cleaning needs done underneath. Also, the rubber-like wheels on the casters keep all the metal out of the moisture. My canning I keep in plastic jar boxes and small bins that hold a dozen pints. I have everything that isn't in a can or a jar is stored in IP67 air/water tight bins, the kind with the gaskets. Not only does it keep all the dry goods and dried fruit and beans safe from getting damp, it keeps out any influx of mice, squirrels, bugs, etc. Yes, the bins raise my storage costs, but they have kept all my vulnerable food safe from the hazards of daily life. And, I am able to take advantage of the good sales. Buying more when it's much cheaper, and never having any losses in the extended pantry (except for grandchildren pilfering things like chocolate chips and potato chips) means my bins were paid for long ago, and grocery savings now goes right back into the grocery budget. When people call being prepared hoarding, they are only demonstrating that they don't understand what the word hoarding means, and are ignorant of the need to be prepared for emergencies. Because, you never know when your family may experience a job loss, an illness, or what is happening all the time lately, a natural disaster. Shortages due to crop failure, transportation issues, or natural disasters where the crops originate have to be expected. I like to keep stocked 7 deep in packages of toilet paper, paper towels, foil, plastic wrap, wax paper, and parchment paper. I buy when those specific items are on deep discount, and couple at a time, as we use it. That's not hoarding; that's being prepared. When everybody else was scrambling for toilet paper during covid, it was just another year for me in terms of groceries and supplies, and I didn't have to expose myself by running to the stores trying to find things that were in short supply.

I live in a studio apartment in Germany 22m2 so space is very limited. What I do have is a mini freezer cube which for one person is lovely, on the top I keep my coffee machine to utilise the space best. What I do keep stocked is pasta and rice which last 1-2 months as well as utilising the freezer for meat (I buy XL family packs and split them in singe servings) and some veggies. One day I will have a bigger space and I will be able to store more

You've been such an inspiration to me! A year ago I bought 3 shelves like you have and converted our very tiny dining room into a pantry! I have a bunch of food, appliances, emergency supplies, #10 cans and 5 gal buckets stored on them. I so wish I had room for one more shelf. I've been talking to my hubs about putting a shelf in the garage for all the appliances like crock pot and my canning supplies. Then I'll have more room in the climate controlled house for food. He says I'm crazy, but has actually been thankful that we have more on the shelf! This has also allowed me to shop my shelves to regularly donate to the little food cabinet near me. Thank you for continuing to put out videos like this. The overlap of information is helpful and not as repetitive as you might think. Some of us need that. Love hanging out with you!! 💗From Texas!

One other thing to mention, is food in bags in boxes. It's logical to think, it's sealed in an bag and then in a box, it must be good. But some packaging is designed to breath just a little. I was shocked when I learned that and it motivated me to get going on storing food properly.

I remember my grandparent telling me when they lived on the East Coast their food storage pantry was in the basement. And with one of my grandparents there were four generations in the house. And her grandfather and great grandfather were morticians and part of their basement was where bodies were prepared for burial. And I also remember the ring told one time the basement got flooded by a really bad storm so they had floating bodies on one side and on the other side they had floating and canned goods and the tables came off so they had no idea what was inside so it was surprising for each meal until completely used but after that they made the decision to use a grease marker to mark the tops of the cans to avoid that situation again. Mason jars weren't a problem since you could be seen inside. And my grandmother's family always stocked up especially for winter since they could get snowed in and wouldn't be able to leave grandma told me the snow once when all the way up to the third floor of their four story house. And like I said four generations in one house.

We live in Alaska, and we store food in our basement and a former bedoom in our home which stays between 55 and 60 degrees all year. We also have a smaller pantry off our kitchen for a short-term pantry. Keeping the room dark, dry, and the rght temp is so important. Thanks for talking about and demonstrationg the cans that need to be thrown out immediately. I do a lot of pressing down to see if their is a clicking sound on cans I don't think are quite right. I have thrown out some that no one else thinks are bad. Thowing away your life for one can that might be $2.00 would be insane.

Thank you for another awesome video. I live in Australia. I ain’t finding squat over here. Nothing that’s a good deal at all or worth the time and effort of going out in the what with kids to go grab. Haha. Just gotta keep on keeping on. I’m a family of 6, my hubby, a 9,8,6 year old sons and a 8 month old son. I have a little extra of things, not as much as I would like. But enough to get us through a month. I want to eventually have a years worth of food stored and on rotation. Again thank you for the awesome video. I always enjoy watching. 🥰

I have a husband and 2 teenage boys. Food is very expensive in Australia. I've always shopped the sales but have been more diligent now in creating a stock pile of goods I can store. We get so much fresh fruit and vegetables here so I dont tend to buy that much in canned or frozen vegetables but just alone stockpiling and freezing what we need I noticed our grocery bill went down nearly $.200 in a month. I'm keeping track of our March grocery shop, shop the sales, stock up and hoping we'll save more than $200 for March compared to February. Stockpiling and shopping the sales and cooking from scratch really helps save money.

Pro tips-It's been my experience that tomato products and pineapple tend to bulge the easiest. Invest in metal shelving. The plastic ones warp over time. Putting food in the garage makes them bulge, rust, and seep more. If you need additional storage...many years ago my parents used metal trash cans and made a wood top...they used it for a nightstand and it stored rice. Only buy what you eat! Rotate, rotate, rotate! Start off small and do not go into debt to make your food storage. Little by little.

We have a large pantry downstairs also for canning we’ve done and a small kitchen pantry for meal set up in our front hall behind the kitchen. Across from that is a coat closet in which we use the top shelf and floor for snacks and cereal. The biggest tip I have is to buy or make the sturdiest shelving you can afford before stocking up. Plastic shelving is only good for TP, lightweight dry goods like pet foods, cereals, dehydrated goods like potatoes, pasta, herbs, coffee, tea, creamer, oats…you get the idea. Once I started pressure canning our stored goods took up more room and those goods are very heavy. I always take from the left rows first. Once the left row is gone I push the right stock over to the left then restock the right.

Hello Kimmie! The house we are in after the move to Flagstaff, AZ does not have as much room as our last home. We have to wait for our home to be built. Food storage was tough, for awhile we put all of it in a extra room. Now hear me out haha, the garage is not big enough for our vehicles, so my husband knows HVAC, we or he built us a nice pantry in the garage kinda like a room within a room on the north side. The cold storage is insulated and has its own temperature gage, which we have not used yet. The temp is steady at 40 degrees. I have baskets for any type of vegetable and my metal shelves, yet only 3 and one smaller shelf for baking goods. It works for now and i am lucky to have that. It will be easy to remove and repair any holes ect. We have had to utilize underneath beds for dehydrated goods put into plastic bins i can slide in and out. Its alot of work, but i enjoy my time. It is only my husband and I, yet I can be called in a moments notice for a meal for a church member or extra dessert. For sure this is not hoarding, it is smart practice i have learned from my mother and church. When we finally make our last move into our forever home, i plan on a chest freezer, but not a huge one. Also, I enjoy making freezer meals for our adult kids minda like grab and go. Thanks as always for your tips!

Added home canned chicken breast, chicken thighs, corned beef brisket, turkey breast, chuck roast, pork roast, lamb roast, ground beef, frzr meatballs too! Put ( 3) 5-gal bkts of oats (for diabetic mom) in my closet, when we couldn'tget for less than $5 for a reg. canister. Freeze dried, cases, stacked on top of armoire & a bookcase. M.bath closet, hygiene & meds pantry, huge 1st aid kit & 1st aid books. Mom's bath, diabetic pantry. And of course, year of t.p., but I installed a bidet attachment myself. Not fun, and cold water on your backside is a shocker! 😊

Hello. Part of it is just preparedness for a disaster. Part of it is the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints encourages self reliance and part of that is having food storage. They also teach service and charity and we can accomplish that better by having extra food for our friends and neighbors. Lastly we teach financial responsibility and that can mean a food budget. So buying low and in bulk when on sale and saving for rainy day can really help. Check out resources online for this church.

I turned that into our "overflow" pantry where I keep our bulk items that way I could stock up on sale items. Definitely grateful to have this space, however that wasn't always the case and had to get creative in some of our last houses.

Add some butter to a fry pan and cook the potatoes and onions until golden. Add eggs and bacon and YUM! They are also handy when camping because they are faster to cook over the fire.

I love having a rotating pantry! We fill it up with the food items we regularly use. I am hoping we could buy a deep freezer soo. so we can also buy frozen veggies and meat that goes on sale. We just moved to our first house and even though it is small, I still have a wall in our basement that I can use 😊

Wow! I don't like looking at all that food. I feel like I'm in a supermarket, not a home. Some back up is fine but unless I had 10 kids this is way too much for me! Also, I don't need or want the added job of maintaining all that stuff. Kimmie, this works for you with your you tube channel but for me, I'd rather make my home & life as peaceful & simplified as possible. xoxo

Those canned potatoes….put them in a hot skillet with olive oil and butter and drained canned green beans. Add Italian seasoning. Brown and dry out a bit. So delicious. I always buy sliced canned potatoes for this.

So many cans! Soup and tuna are the only canned items I’ve ever bought. Oh and Rotel a couple times a year for making a cheese dip during football season.

When i moved i turned a big closet that i don't need into long term food storage and a utility closet into non food items storage. I have shoe organizers on the inside of every closet door😂 it works for me. Your storage is beautiful i wondered how you would store everything when you moved.

We only have a deep narrow pantry closet. There was no room for back stock. We knocked out the back wall between the studs at the back of our coat closet which happens to be under the staircase to our upstairs. We took out the hanger rod and installed double rows of hooks on both sides for jackets in the front of the closet section. Once you go between the studs the front section you can stand up but the back section you have to crouch and duck. My husband built shelves and I keep all my canned goods, water, paper products, and back stock in there. There is a very small center area we keep clear in the event of a rare tornado sighting. My husband, our still at home college kid and I fit. We tried with our two largish dogs but they thought we were playing and it got too warm and stuffy with their panting so we now put them in the two piece downstairs bathroom. It has no windows and in the center of the house across from the closet. If we feel we are in immediate danger we can always grab them and pull them in with us. Once our youngest moves out we’re using her old room as the new storage room.

A small tip, store you cans upside down to keep the lids clean. Yes, I rinse my lids before opening but even the cleanest houses get a few bugs and storing them upside down keeps the side you open cleaner.

If you have small house with kids put food in buckets that way your starting your food pantry. My parents only had large pantry an then they put lot of things under the beds. Plus it makes the beds high so your teenager would love that.

Another good tip is if your storing pressure canned items you need good temperature control. We have our pantry in our hall its the best cooledt darkest place. But we are in texas and this past summer heat index was 125 outside. Our house never git much below 80 degrees with ac on veing conservative due to power outages. My pressure canned goodes, several ended up unsealing from the heat. Im only getting 3 years mx on some items and so ive switched to buying more store bought canned goods and not canning up as much from our garden and blanching and freezing a bit more.

For me I don’t always write on every single can. I write on one. I write on everything that I bring in. Last year I reorganized my closet and put in some shelves for my back stock. I have a closet with shelves which I use it as my pantry. I grab another shelving unit which is set up in my living room. I need to get some blackout curtains for it. I keep my apartment at a certain temperature year round. I got my two shelves for my bedroom closet at Aldi as well as the utility shelf that’s in my living room. After watching this video, I’m thinking about re-utilizing my bedroom to fit that shelf so it’s not in my living room.

GM, another awesome video like always. We turned a extra closet into a pantry too. I always get wonderful ideas from you. I’m in south Texas and I noticed when you share Costco and Sam’s items in store that I wanted to buy. I can’t get them from my store or if I find them the prices are higher . Crazy how it works with location. We are in the country to.. hope you have a wonderful blessed week. Hugs from Texas ❤❤

I just moved from a 3 bed mobile home to a 2 bed apartment. There is no pantry at all. My pantry cabinet that I’ve had for 20+ years moved with me and is my current pantry. I did buy another cabinet to hold my extra kitchen items. I’m still reorganizing everything and some things will be donated to the goodwill. I’m a widow and a diabetic as well as disabled and that mobile home is infested with black mold. Sure didn’t do my health any favors. The second room is full of my craft stuff aka yarn! So it won’t be made into a pantry anytime soon. 😅but your tips and tricks are still welcome! I’m in western Oregon right Off I-5

I am not a big fan of canned potatoes either but have found a few ways we can use them. My husband will fry up some diced potatoes and my son & dad really like them. We use the can sliced or even the whole potatoes in the crockpot when we cook roasts. We just put them in for the last hour of cooking time. I hope this helps give you some ideas. Do you ever miss the couponing days when it was so much easier to get great deals? I know I do,
