Kim whenever you do this keep a basket with you. Whenever you need to use something soon put on that basket and then take to your everyday pantry at the end

I have a collapsible basket that hangs on a hook at end of my pantry shelves. I pull anything within 60 days of current date and take go the kitchen to be used in the meal plan. I have a particular corner of the kitchen for them..so seeing them every day pushes me to use them.

For my pantry I mark the exp date on the top and the front label with a sharpie as it is put away. Takes a few extra minutes but when it comes to check and rotate day I don’t have to search for the dates. They are right there front n center. And it helps others to see the dates and use the right ones. Very nice set up you have there! 🌸

I transferred all my boxed items into long term food safe containers. This also includes pastas, flower, rice. I vacuumed sealed a ton of my items because of the current situation in the world.

Always fun to watch how you do your stocking. I have been stocking for years and it's nothing new to me. The important thing is not to stock what you aren't going to use. I also do canning my own food. This is so rewarding to me. I am surprised that you don't do canning. I had enough food to get me through the winter without having to go to the store except for fresh fruit and fresh veggies. Even though I do can many of those, I can't do lettuce, and want some oranges etc. that are fresh. I even canned cider, as I know the price goes up in the winter, so I have that on hand too. I have two big freezers and one small one for what I will use for a couple weeks. That's where I don't do inventory as much as I should. Although I did buy a lot of meats before the prices went sky high. One freezer is for meats, and the other is for fruits and veggies etc. It works for me. Also, if my neighbor needs something and can't get to the store, they know they can come over and get something. They are very good about replacing it when they go out next time. I call it my indoor shopping go to store. We also bake a lot together and come up with some fun foods. Her husband and kids test it for us LOL. Keep up the good work, always enjoy your videos. Greetings from Western, N.Y.

This vid is SO timely! I just said this morning (to my dog actually as she tried to slink around a grocery tote of items to go downstairs to the food storage cupboard) It's time to spend some quality time in there and get some stuff re-organized. The kids have been going in to fetch stuff for me and using other things in their lunches, and of course, there's always a little bit of chaos when you haven't been paying strict attention to how things are being put away. since I KNOW that this needs to get done, I have been putting off taking new items down (I'm a Cricket) b/c I don't want them to get stored improperly in the name of just putting them away. Following along with the yearly schedule you set us on last year has been SO helpful to continuing my food storage journey! I've been at it, overall for 20+ yrs now, but having this new perspective has been so helpful to taking stock of what I have, what I need and finessing overall goals for my Emerg Prep! Thank you SO much!

Another thing that is helpful is having a three month basket and a one month basket so I know what is coming up to be out of date and what is a month and under and it's out of date and it helps me know what needs to be re-bought and what needs to be used up right away. It really helps me so much. Thanks for all you do and I love it all and take care!

I get another freezer towards the end of the month which will hold my butter and my bread and creamer. extra. I'm set for about 1.5 yrs as I'm a caregiver for my mother with dementia which is getting worse so I've walked through my house to see what canned goods I need, medical supplies and home repairs should I be unable to get out. Please folks think about your elderly as when the pandemic hit we were short on incontinence supplies. I won't have my mom worry about such things again. Prayers

I can tell you now, those of us with ADHD are some of the best organizers. Everything you did was just satisfying my brain cells, organization just keeps up so sane. You did great. I organize just like you do, everything must be displayed facing forward. The little imperfections bother me sometimes, not to mention, it is extremely satisfying knowing that you know you have enough to provide for your family and not have to worry so much if the stores are out of what you are looking for, for a while. It must be a bit distracting or a bit of a struggle to have to try to get all that organizing done in a timely manner while also talking to the camera. That definitely extends your time doing that chore. But you are a champ at it! Now get your much needed rest!

Great idea I just did mine. It was a 3 day job because I have a broken back and it is extremely painful and can only work 10 minutes before I lay on a heating pad for 5 minutes. Not supposed to be lifting over 2 lbs at a time either and can't touch the floor. I did it anyway because after being confined to bed for 3 months I found a rat had gotten into my pantry and destroyed all of my pasta. Plugged his hole where he chewed in and now I have thick hard plastic containers for Pasta, dehydrated potatoes, Rice and beans. In fact I put all dry goods in plastic containers in the end. Sure wish I had a pantry area your size mine is pretty small but adequate. I had a great idea. I was having trouble with food falling off the back of my metal shelving units. ( I can't push them back tight with the wall) Anyway I used 4" wide duct tape and wrapped it around the back bars of my shelving units several times and it worked great.

I totally hoard those flat boxes. I use them in my gardening, my paper work is kept separated and organized in them; we use them to organize kid's homework, school work and projects. I also use them to organize my canned goods. I have very little pantry space so my "pantries" are 28 gallon storage bins, 14 gallon Sterlite bins and 5 gallon buckets all of which are kept organized, inventoried and rotated through.

It's so much easier if you take a Sharpie Black Marker and write your dates on the front of cans, boxes or the sides that will show on the shelf. I do this when I bring them home and keeps me from having to constantly check the dates when I move the older ones up and put newer ones in back. I do it on all groceries that you can write the expiration dates on.
@sarahaubrey3202 жыл бұрын
One thing I do is i take those letter labels split them in half (a full one is wasteful), write the expiration date and stick it on the package somewhere visible! Makes it super easy to see what's expiring soon and no more hunting for dates!

@lindabudzik95832 жыл бұрын
I should think that moving all your long-term storage items (Thrive, etc.) would be the way to go. You could keep them all in your daughter,s closet and know that is just the long-term stuff. It would be easier to not have things spread between four different areas. That would also free up space in your storage room to put more things on that top shelf and to bring whatever else you are storing in her closet (except for the long-term items) out to the storage room.

I'm thinkin 'inventory day' is also 'crock pot' day lol. Great job! I haven't broke the news to hubby yet that I need to add 2 more shelving units to our pantry. Since it's just the two of us, I stack a lot of recipe items together... ie - chicken pot pie so I keep 1 can each of chicken, cream of chicken soup, chicken stock, veg all... all stacked together so I know the count is right and if I tell him that's what I'm making for supper... all the ingredients are easy for him to grab and bring upstairs. Thanks for the tip to watch the TP packaging. I've noticed the packaging seemed smaller even though the roll count is the same. Hmm Tricky I dry can anything that is a grain base, such as pastas and crackers for long term storage to prevent weevil germination. Crackes also tend to take on that plastic wrapping taste over long term. I always look forward to your videos. Be safe, Be prepared, Be Blessed!

My milk cartons that can be stored I just had to re-by it, my water, and the broths because they got out of date quickly so now I am good with quite a bit of time now so keep up with watching the dates because they get out of date quickly. I also realized the little containers for cherry tomatoes can be seed starters because they have holes in the bottom and are perfect for holding dirt. I just realized it when I have kept a lot of them and was looking for ways to use them. Thanks for everything you do and keep up the great work, and take care! Thanks for getting me into stocking up the pantry I really appreciate it!

We have annual canned food sale in the fall. So I have green beans, corn, Great Northern beans, Kidney beans and Pinto beans for a year (less than a year now). I probably have a 2-12 mo. supply on noodles depending on type. All the stores were out of various kinds of noodles and I just stocked up. I have all kinds of stuff. I also buy my canned tomatoes at the canned food sale. I even bought a case of artichoke hearts for cooking purposes. I told my husband to stay our of those. I don't think I can store enough pickles for my guys but I try. I have 6 mo. of toilet paper. Less of paper towels. The food shortage taught me a lot. I don't think I can store enough flour in the event of a long-term bread shortage. Have thought about getting wheat berries and grinder but have not yet. I did stock up on yeast though at Costco and put it in the freezer. When you have hungry mouths to feed all of sudden food storage becomes very important. I am praying for all those moms searching for formula.

So I like to buy more of that than anything. We do baked macaroni and macaroni salad the most. And then my dads version of spaghetti (we call it rib spaghetti even though it’s rigatoni lol) but it’s is delicious with homemade sauce. So we buy tomato sauce more than we buy something like diced tomatoes. I love how custom a food storage can be.

Hi Kimmy! Have you ever considered getting a pasta maker? I have a Philips brand one and it's amazing. I make my pasta fresh while the water is coming to a boil and it's great. Also, it means I don't have to store all kinds of pasta. I make enough for two or three meals at a time and keep it in the fridge. Greetings from Montreal! Sarah x

Restaurants have "use first" stickers for what needs to be used next. I am sure you could buy some on amazon. so then every time you do this slap a sticker on the next batch of expiration dates. I mean you could probably use a round neon sticker or some kind of marker too.

Kim, ty for another motivational video.. I would recommend you see the video posted on 2.25.22 by “The Urban Prepper”. He uses a color coding method for keeping track of the expiration dates on the items in his pantry.. I ordered the stickers he used and got a pack of 2000 for under $10 delivered in a couple of days.. It’s pure genius and is a quick visual way of seeing what needs to be used up.. Take care and ty again!

You know what I do? For me personally, it's the easiest method. I have 3 shelfs. The first one is 2022,the second 2023 and the third from 2024. (expiration dates). The products that are the same are not together, but the dates are. Of course I can use whatever I want from the shelf and when I buy something I put them on the shelf that it corresponds (with the date). This way I clearly know what expires first. Because the entire shelf is just one year, the current year. For me this is the easiest.

It looks so good. Very organized now you can find everything. Good to have that now that gas is going up and everything less trips to the store. Now to look just for sales to fill in. Good job

I order a lot of stuff on line too. Like Walmart, Costco (we only get the 2 day shipping where we live with Costco). I do 2 week grocery hauls on payday. I only go to the store on the off weeks for milk, bread and stuff we run out of. My husband doesn't like me to freeze bread. I don't mind but he does. Often times he does the shopping in the between week if I give him a list. So I often only go to the store twice a month (like today). I work full time so this works best for our family. It is nice that I now get to work from home as well. I can do little things on my breaks and lunches.

Your pantry is absolute goals and I am fascinated by the system You use to keep on top of everything. Your planner is on my wishlist, as soon as it is available as non-spiral :)

The cardboard trays that hold the dozen cans are alright to have- the stores throw them away. I leave my 12 cans on them in the cabinet until used- it’s not hoarding them, they’re not reused. P.S The canned goods never used to have expiration dates either, I believe only dry goods did to begin with… med’s did, too.

Wow! This is so impressive. You’ve inspired me just recently to start a food storage. It’s very wimpy compared to yours but it feels good to just start it. Thank you!

Awesome! Keep going and add a little at a time. Keep inventory of what you have. That way things won't get confusing when you have a bigger supply later on.

Hi Kim, I use a black sharpie to label my glass jars in the working pantry. It easily washes off when I want to relabel.

I don’t usually worry too much about cans and their expiration date because I know they can go a while past the expiration date and they can be used still in there still perfectly fine

That was a great job! And thank you for the link to the inventory sheets. Oh, and thank you for turning the labels forward, haha. It is one of my "things" that drives my family nuts. My long term and everyday pantries are on a much smaller scale than yours, but I can still double buy things I don't need if I'm not watchful. I am an inventory control person. Chuckling at myself. So satisfying to be prepared to feed my family and anyone else who is in need. Thank you for all you share with the world.

An Idea that helps is to write with marker on the front of the packaging (of what ever size you will be seeing) the expiration date.

Love this video! I've been using prepper nerds system for a year I love it because it gives you notifications when things are getting close to the best by date. I don't think I could ever go back to doing paper method again.

Kimmie you can try to fit an extra shelf under the stairs and move all the Long term food items there. That'll allow you to have them in. Single place and free up a shelf in the pantry
