We have a room very much like this and our kids call it "Mom and Pops." They will be here to pick up the babies, as I watch the babies while they're working, and they may say, "Can I shop at Mom and Pops?" It is so much easier than taking babies to the grocery store on the way home, especially during this pandemic. Besides, if we can help them out, all the better...

When I volunteered at the local food bank we used large coloured dots on cases so that at a glance you know what year it expired. Quick and easy we put them on cases and boxes and trays we had a colour code at the sided of the shelves so everyone followed the same code, this was planned for five years.

Just found your channel. Good video. A couple of suggestions: cardboard and paper containers - break down & put in a bin in the pantry for your fireplace, fire pit, or to take if you camp. If not, share with someone who does before putting them in the recycle bin. Store food goods with liquids below dry goods, & the tomato-based goods lowest. Wal-Mart has pet food bins that can hold up to 50 lb bags to keep them bug free, dry & away from cleaning supplies. You can either pour the food in or just set the open bag in it. Hope these are helpful.

Or a large family 😂 if you dont have one you dont know my mum is one of ten kids and they all had at least 2 kids each and those kids have all started having kids and all have 2 or more as well usually more like 3 or 4 so when i say that food is more a basic supply vs an insane amount like it may look im telling you from experience. When you do the math on how much a growing kid eats especially or hardworking not still growing adults who have at least 3 meals a day AND snacks and then times it by 7 youll find thats a lot to look at. To give perspective its like those diet related shows that have to shock people into being healthy by putting how much of a food item they eat in a year in a giant mountain and it ends up being like a room full of ONE thing. Be thankful humans unlike a lo of ither animals are pretty efficient with food since most animals have to eat their bodyweight nearly every day.

You have a beautiful pantry. Need to get to the next step. Everything you have is store bought. No garden, no canning even from farmer’s markets? Your cream of soups...put together cream of soup dried mix base...put in jars and seal with your food saver and attachment for jars. You have thrive products so can have cream of celery, onion, mushroom, even cheese. Next, you need a pressure canner...you have potatoes on the shelf and tons of tomatoes in metal cans...can put this food up in jars. Cans can give off an odd flavor and products that are are high in acid like tomatoes and pineapple can break the seals on the cans. Then, when you want tomato products(longer shelf life canned up yourself in jars) make a sauce or chilli,etc...can it up too! Can up chicken, fish beef, etc. All the store bought broth...can up your own healthier version or have it in powder form. So much longer in shelf life.less space on the shelves. All the dried up snacks in plastic...not going to stay fresh too long. Plastic is porous. You Can seal cereal and crackers in jars with the food saver or oxygen absorbers. Pasta, beans, rice, flour, any grains need to go into the freezer a few days, allowed to thaw out a couple of days on the counter...then sealed up in jars. It only takes one little box of pasta that had larvae in it hatching to create chaos to all your food. Could be weevils, pantry moths...happening to many people. You have a great base...need to get to a more self-reliant place ...if stores don’t have anything...what you have is what you have. Food will only last so long. Got garden seeds? Have a canner?, dehydrator? Again, you have a great store of food and items in the pantry...all store-bought. That is my concern for you plus lack of spices. Get them in bulk. Besides the salt you bought..ever use a bay leaf, pepper, allspice, etc.? For people who like ranch dressing for salads and dips...can make a dry mix yourself and store. Didn’t see oil in your pantry...got ghee? The water stored in cheap plastic gallon containers can leak out...must have a better water storage plan in place.

We just got a big metal cabinet for our basement to hold our food storage and I can't wait to organize it. I have a teenie tiny pantry in my kitchen, so I needed the room. We also just got our first thrive order using your link and we are so impressed with the quality! Looking forward to stocking up a little bit each month to grow our stockpile. Such a blessing to know that we have what we need on hand just in case...

I keep a couple of Sharpies in my food storage room and write the month/year "best buy" date in big numbers right on the box, case lot carton, jar or can before I put it away. Makes it a lot easier to keep track of, and the numbers haven't had a chance to fade. But I only pay attention to that to make sure I use the oldest first, and don't worry about any of it really being "expired." The only canned or jarred things I've ever had go bad were tomato products like diced tomatoes and tomato sauce -- but only six to eight years after their "best buy" date when they developed just a hint of a metallic taste, and canned fruits at about five years after "best buy" date, when they got dark and mushy. And ketchup darkens and doesn't taste quite as good at about six to eight years past "best buy." Soups, canned veggies, tuna, chili, mayo, I've used up to 10 years after the "best buy" date with no noticeable effect on taste or texture. I think manufacturers put the "best buy" date mostly because they have no way to know how people are going to store their products. If they are going to keep them in a muggy hot garage in South Texas with lots of uncovered windows, that's going to be very different from my dry, dark basement that is around 55 degrees most of the year and never gets over 70.

Our food storage room gets messy so fast. I’m always shocked at how crazy it can get. We have 10 in our household so many hands get involved. They can always find what they want. But can’t seem to remember where yo put things back! But so worth it though. My adult son went out in the Texas ice store to our storage room... he called me on his phone.... says. “ since I’m at the grocery store what flavor ice cream do you want... plus do I need to bring a case of anything in! lol those smaller storage containers I use for things like mix packets... I’m glad you show can goods storage. So many... myself included thing storage as home canned. But honestly I prefer a good mix of home canned and store bought. Gives me more size options. And since I live in the city I’m limited in my garden space. But many of my storage groups have newbies to storage etc worry about building up since gardening takes time... so they are always asking about ways to store store bought. This was a really informative well done video for them. I’ve done it for years. But I’m always watching for new ideas. You can teach an old dog new tricks! Lol I use a pressure curtain bar and add shower curtain hooks... then hang all the never ending lunch bags etc.

Great video! I too categorize and keep like things together. I got tired of trying to look at the tiny expiration dates so I use a marker and write in BIG numbers the month/year on the individual can label or box. I quickly write the dates on my new groceries and its so much easier to shuffle stuff around and keep items from expiring. Hope this helps someone.

Are the shelves tied back to the wall? You should really keep the heavy cans on the bottom shelves and lighter things like the pasta higher up, particularly if you’re pulling all the cans forward to the shelf edge.

Hey Kimmy! So, I am proof that prepping your food/necessities is ESSENTIAL!!! As of today (Tuesday 16th) we still have over 5 FEET of snow on the ground. No roads have been cleared in many neighborhoods due to the plows breaking down from the weight of the snow. School cancelled again. Stores and most of town is shut down in my town of 65,000. Even if stores were open, they were cleaned out days ago. This storm has been going on for a week. Am I freaking out? HECK NO!! I have everything stocked up, even for the pets! While watching your videos I made brownies, brekkie sammies, and bread. We had a wonderful chicken marsala with parma rosa pasta and homemade focaccia. I set out 2 corned beefs for St. Patty's day and will put those in the crock pot along with all the root veggies while homemade soda bread will be baking. Friday dinner will be CLAM CHOWDER baby!! I am able to do all this WITHOUT having to hit one store since I stocked up my freezers and pantries with essentials!

It’s funny. I do much the same in my long term pantry, (just less since we don’t have kids home now). I also don’t use many canned soups since we have low sodium requirements, and I use tomato paste instead of sauces (less room and I can vary the type of sauce ,(thicker, thinner, even soup). I think you use an intuitive and logical approach. Nice job. Lots of work good for you.

it's so nice to see someone just buying can stuff on sale. not having to can it ourselves! i am just buying up stuff myself. i have canning jars but i'm using them for dry storage. you could mark the box trays with the dates if they don't already have them on them. thanks for not trashing food. you're so right about BEST BY dates!! I ordered more shelving today but I love your heavy duty shelves. They seem to hold a lot of weight!! you could also label the shelves if you wanted with a label maker so everyone will put things where they go besides you :) have a great day!!! such a great video!

If I see something that is expiring soon or just expired, I make sure to find a recipe to use them up right away. I know you say some things last years longer but I just can't do it. I'm very picky with date. My boyfriend thinks I buy too much but, heck, when things are on sale such as a great deal I stock up. To me, that's being smart with your money. I hate to buy anything full price if I can help it. :-) I love how big your pantry is!!! It is totally like being in a grocery store. I must have a little ocd. I hope you read this! I'm 59 and have had about 6 years of sick parent, then a lot of her things came to my house. 3 years ago I started prepping. 2 years ago breast cancer. I am finally feeling good but low energy. My home, inside and out is so cluttered and out of control that I'm going to try " Swedish death cleaning". My dilemma is the balance between decluttering, simplifying and prepping. I sew and a little crocheting. I can and dehydrate food. I hope to garden next year. Had to take a break from that for health reasons. Still no energy. Lol My concern is finding the balance. If you have any thoughts or ideas I would love to see a video on that.

You need to get a Costco 3 step step ladder! Take it from a senior whose only 4’9”-you need a bigger step ladder! They have a nice big platform on top to stand on so your feet and legs don’t get tired. I’m having to9 graduate to a 5 or 6 footer because we are moving and my pantry ceilings are 10” and shelves to the top. Wish I could find one like my little lightweight Costco. It folds flat and you can store it anywhere. Also, my advice would be to clear out one shelf to the kitchen counter to have a place to set those heavy cans /bulky boxes while you check dates etc. then you just work your way around and you will always have a spare shelf to hold things while you’re juggling. (I had many dented cans and broken jars until I figured this out!) Thanks for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to share with us.

Keep a pair of scissors hanging from a ribbon or a hook in your pantry. You can easily open the plastic the cans are wrapped in by slicing up between the cans. The plastic is usually so tough to open with your fingernails. You will also find a multitude of uses for those scissors too. I keep a pair in every room. A throwback from when we were children and mum used to complain that we would take the scissors and not return them. She invested in a pair for every room and I now do the same.

I wonder if writing the expiration dates in black marker on the side you have facing out would make it easier for you? Also I totally agree that expired food, especially canned food, lasts way longer than the best before. I cringe seeing other KZbinrs throwing out dry goods just because they have reached that date. Herbs especially last sooooo long, the older they are the less potent, just use more. They will never go 'bad'

You did a great job on organizing your pantry. One suggestion (and I saw it on another video)would be to not store cleaning items under food , since the fumes can rise and affect the food above them. It suggested storing them on a top shelf.

That is an amazing amount of food. I am on a fixed income, so that just looks like Heaven’s bounty. Hi, first time watching your chanel. One recipe you can use for the Campbell's tomato soup is cook your pasta, the add some butter or margarine, cut up a onion. Then add your can on Campbell's tomato soup, this is all mixed in a oven proof casserole sish. Then add some Clubouse Italian Seasoning with the red lid only, which contains dehydrated vegetable peppers. Instead of pepper spices. Add some garlic powder, onion powder, then shred some marble or mild cheddar cheese. Put in to a preheated oven at 350 degrees F. Cook until the cheese is all melted, about 20 minutes. This recipe is delicious. Another pasta recipe, that I found that everybody loves is make whatever kind of pasta everybody loves, I usually baby or medium size shells, elbow maccaroni, or penne, or rigatoni pasta. Add some butter or margarine, add some either Cheese Whiz, or No name brand of these cheese spread. Then add a can of stewed tomatoes, either one that is crushed, or pieces, if you is whole canned tomatoes you need to cut them up. Then add your spices, mix everything together, then put into the oven. The cream of mushroom soup, I add to meatballs, then cook in your roaster. Swedish meatballs.

Hello there! I have lived on a farm my whole childhood life. My parents were firm believers of food storage that the LDS and farmers taught us. Rotation is important loved seeing that in your vlog. We had a basement that turned into our pantry was nice. In AZ we dont have that luxury of a basement. All kids are grown up. I have always thought of bedrms to use, but then we get company. I use the closets and underbeds for storage. You have reminded me to make a running list of what I have since I have to stack my boxes. I also write the exp date on box where I can see. Love your pantry shelves. We use the shelves out in garage for bins of seasonal items. Your the best. 😁
