Not sad. The mind/body adapts and conquers the obstacles and yearns for more especially at those young ages if the pupil accepts the disciplined philosophy. When I studied the Chinese martial arts when I was young and again years later I craved the hard work and could withstand intense pain. One armed back of wrist push ups, arm and leg striking, intense physical calisthenics, red palm sand, iron shirt training...once you master your body the mind can become free....meditation. It's funny but I'm much older and have fallen away from the arts and am in somewhat poor health but now and again I will show people some small bit of technique just to get them interested and then I easily fall into the old stances and it's as if a switch has been flipped . My whole demeanor, countenance and mindset changes into the young warrior so many years ago.

Many things can be built by yourself so you can train and make your body stronger and more resistant. I've built a Makiwara so I can practice daily certain hit like punches and kantos (which is the hit with the side of your hand). It's also great how easy they are to build you don't need any sort of training to bult the instruments that might be required for training. Very recently I've started my training in Shaolin Kung Fu and even though I'm not Chinese nor in China, my master did had Chinese teachings so the way he teach us are quite rough by Western society standards but I enjoy it.
