The new German MREs are way better and are pretty similiar to other European MREs. The canned bread is still the same but pretty good with the jam.

I don’t know how that cylindrical German ration was made, but the alcohol could be from the bread breaking down. When there is a sugar or some sort of carbohydrates present along side the right bacteria, they can break down sugars and turn that into alcohol.

You know I never thought about that. Having super dry food that sucks all the moisture out of your mouth seems like a terrible idea for survival emergency rations but there's no other option. I understand there's emergency water and purification tablets so you should have water before hand but still. Imagining you can't find any water you're already dehydrated these things take up what little water you have left in your mouth I wonder if it would even be possible to swallow with no moisture in your throat to slide it down.

I think it would be cool, seeing as this is a pop culture and military channel, to see the guys eat some fantasy MRE type stuff, like Lembas bread from Lord of the Rings, stuff like that. Would be an interesting episode, maybe a bit hard to put together though. Always enjoy your content though, thanks for continuing to provide tons of entertainment

The word "Vollkornbrot" sounds aggressive without any intention xD The sour alcohol taste probably comes from the yeast used. Sugar, Water and Fat translate to Zucker, Wasser, Fett :) Wasseraufbereitungstabletten: Apperantly they should only be used in the most unfortunate of times. After using them to clean water, it is recommended to see a doctor. Please do a modern MRE from Germany: 1. I wanna hear more butchered German (without the aggression, if you can). 2. Some interesting stuff in there. 3. I want you to taste the "Panzerkekse" :)

Kind of a pity you couldn't really get an actual MRE, but just canned bread and emergency rations. If nothing else, I guess it's in keeping with the spirit, as my dad likes to mention that back when he was serving it wasn't at all unusual for the MRE's to be older than the people they were issued to. There apparently was a brand of rice pudding with fruit that was particularily infamous.
