The graph of y=f(x)+k (where k is a real number) is the same as the graph of y=f(x) only it's shifted up (when k>0) or down (when k<0). Similarly, the graph of y=f(x-h) (where h is a real number) is the same as the graph of y=f(x) only it's shifted to the right (when h>0) or to the left (when h<0)

If you just keep your classes muted and spend half or a quarter of your class time watching videos related to your class content, you will learn more than in class

Right, have been needing these recently as a university student studying EE lol. Phase shifts are really tricky if you have a shaky foundation of transformations of functions. Don't skip the foundations, kids!

I understand it's simple but I have a question. Why does adding h to x doesn't affect the Y value? If Y is result of function of x then change in x value must change Y value too..

Imagine you have the function y=f(x) and the transformation y=f(x+h). Now take a point (x1,y1) and if we plug x1 into f(x) then we would get f(x1)=y1. Now let's put the value (x1-h) into f(x+h) and we would get f(x1-h+h)=f(x1)=y1. So we can see that in the first case f(x1) gave y1 and in the second case x1-h gave y1 so the y values don't change. So for example let's take the function y=f(x)=x^2 and the points (2,4). So f(2)=4 Now let's say we do the transformation f(x+2) so the new function will be g(x)=(x+2)^2 . Now let's say we plug in the x= 2-h and if h is equal to 2 you will get x=0 so g(2-h) would equal (2)^2 which is 4 but now the x value you plugged in was 2-h and in this case h was zero so you plugged in x=0 and got out 4 so as you can see the y value didn't change but only x changed. I hope that explained it.

@@khathiralanvahisan3450 it's an accurate explanation, but sometimes it is so much easier to "see" and understand it when we can use a picture/graph..
