Oh Kristen, what precious time with our little ones. Siting here with my 4 month old, (named Juli) on my chest and appreciating how, even though I'm here at the southern tip of Africa, we still have so much in common and how you inspire me to continue with my cut flower farm startup in such a demanding season of our lives.

It’s worth it. I maybe don’t go as full tilt as I could if I wasn’t in a season on babies, but I’m happy with what I can accomplish.

When unsure how to pronounce a word just google the question "how to pronounce cotoneaster?" and there will be a tiny video clip with the right pronounciation. It has worked with absolutely every word I have googled. Three years ago I planted 8 itoh peonies so this is the year! I looooooove itoh peonies.

What a great video! And you said, "anemone" correctly! Your baby looks so kissable!!! What a blessing. I'm trying saponaria for the first time this year. I always enjoy your videos, so thanks for sharing!

My mom always pronounced cotoneaster “ka-tony-aster”. I’m definitely going to try some of these!

Great list, I had no idea about the Cotoneaster, and great to hear about your success with Ranunculus! We're in canadian zone 5 and it will be our first year trying flowers, ranunculus was at the top of my 'Want' list!

I watched but it's difficult to grow early season bulbs in my zone 8 b with micro climate of 9/10!! I have full Sun 6-8 hours or more, Especially in summer which IT'S hard to grow annuals in 90-100 degree weather!! So my blooming season is so weird from others! I'm finding what liked it here THAT'S important to any farmer!!!

Love that little baby "bouquet"! That head is just begging for butterfly kisses on my end! LOL. Congratulations! Yes, I was wondering what that vase of tulips was doing there after your videos of your "love" of tulips. Looking forward to your ebook of flower recipes! You mentioned some things for the early season that I did not think twice about. How do you keep the apple blossoms looking good in your vase?

Try the fancy daffodils, perennial and will do better than the tulips for you, they are also earlier than the tulips.

Out of the annuals you mentioned, do you start them indoors or direct sow? Specifically queen Anne's lace and saponaria? If you start them indoors, when do you do so?

Hi Kristen, do you have a canadian source for peony roots that's a bit cheaper if bought in bulk?
@ShiftingRoots
@ShiftingRoots Жыл бұрын
If you want truly bulk, you can get them from VanNoort, DeVroomen, or Unicorn Blooms. If you need a smaller bulk option, Brecks or Veseys have good deals.

When is your last hard frost? Mine is in midJune - I usually lose all my apple blossoms too it. And my peonies consistently bloom at the very end of June. I’ve had terrible results from planting any flowers from seed - last year the zinnias I planted finally bloomed at the end of August and into September. I’m technically zone 4 because we generally only go into negative 30s, but I have a very short season. I would really love to be able to grow all these flowers, though!

My last frost is anytime between May 21 and June 2, though I usually plant out in May and cover with frost cloth if necessary. Our peonies are usually at the end of June too.

@@ShiftingRoots thank you so much for responding! I’m trying to find someone who has defeated weather like mine. Frost two weeks into June and then a killing frost in midSeptember drops my viable growing time about 3-4 weeks less than anyone I’ve found. It doesn’t seem like much, but it is when it comes to ripening/blooming. Last year I planted out on June 10 and a few days later frost killed everything even under heavy frost covers. I’m determined to succeed one of these years, though! :)
