What a nice reel! Glad you did this one. I worked on a very nice Shimano MLZ 60 spinning reel that turned out beautifully. I also resurrected a Jorgensen 12 spinning reel. It has the most beautiful brass gears you’ll ever see. Also in that reel the oscillation gear mounts beside and above the main gear. You don’t see that very often. It has a beautiful large ball bearing but it was totally seized. I replaced it with a Mitchell ball bearing and added a few shim washers between the pinion gear and the bearing because the Michell bearing wasn’t quite as thick. The Jorgensen has a screw on rotor that holds the bearing in place, another unusual feature. I have four Jorgensen reels and like them a lot. I installed the homemade aluminum oscillation slide in my Bretton 902 and it totally transformed the reel. I’m going to put one on my 903 tomorrow. This technique for replacing plastic oscillation slides with machined aluminum ones could be a great idea for the big saltwater Mitchell reels that also have plastic slides in them. I have a very talented friend who made these parts and saved a broken vintage French reel.

My grandson sent me one of these reels to clean up and service. Your video is excellent and after having to free up a lot of the pieces I was able to take it apart and reassemble it, however when I put the spool back in it does not sit flush with the main body. I am going to take it apart again to see if I have stuffed up somewhere. Cheers from Oz

Hmmm - check the spool adjuster cap and also check the spool brakes to make sure they are set inside and not getting trapped in the race

Keep an eye out on ebay, that's where I got all of mine. My Citica has been just as good to me as my Curados... and for less money. They're all about 20 years old and all still work beautifully.

hello! Should the carbon disc that does the braking be free of grease or oil? I saw a video where vice uses a universal grease, is it just for cleaning? which folder do you use? thanks
@2ndChanceTackle8 ай бұрын
Carbon washers do not absorb grease, so it is not needed. She recommend a light coating of grease that gets wiped off before installation - that would be more for cleaning than lubrication. The purpose of grease on washers out to keep them fro drying out and that issue occurs with fabric washers - Dennis

You can contact Shimano as they carry some parts directly or you can try ereplacementparts.com which is one of their distributors. To contact Shimano directly use this link fishshop.shimano.com. Dennis

I purchased ceramic bearing for my Curado Bantam Super Free. This reel is not identified by number like 100 or 200. Three bearings came from Boca Bearings but the reel only has two. The pins on the spool are recessed into the spool. They cannot be reached for removal but there's no reason to remove them anyway There is no bearing behind the pins. The spool spins very well but I'm curious about that third bearing. Have you seen a Bantam like this?
@2ndChanceTackle3 ай бұрын
I think there is a standard bearing set for various models and some may have the non-gear side plate bearing, the gear side bearing if it is not on the spool and a gear shaft bearing rather than a bushing - I can't say how yours is set up, but I believe you the pack you have fits many different Shimano models. - Thanks for asking - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle I really appreciate your reply. I like maintaining things like this. If I remember correctly,, I purchased this reel when they first came out for wade fishing in West Bay Galveston. Your video on this Bantam rel was very good.

Hello how are you? I just cleaned one but after assembly the crank is heavy, the spool turns little😢 what could it be?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Have you tried the spool adjusted behind the handle. Try to loosen it. That may relieve the tension. If that does not work, check the spool brakes to see if they are jammed and not inside the ring (not sure if your version has the brakes). It that;s not it, I would take the reel apart and start over - Dennis

Hi Dennis. The other night I was fishing and got my swim bait snug. I did what I’ve done a million times to get unstuck- lock down the bail, point the rod tip toward the lure and slowly pull. Popped right out. Only now my penn spinfisher VI is making a rubbing sound. Doesn’t feel like gears or a bearing issue. Any thoughts what it could be. Hope I didn’t bend anything out of place.
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
It is possible that it is a bent axle shaft that would need to be replaced. I am assuming that it is the spool rubbing agains the rotor - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Well here’s an update. I opened up the side plate only to find the crosswind and main gears were completely dry. I’ve only had this for 4 months. The shaft came out super easy so maybe it didn’t get bent after all. I did find some residual sand underneath the rotor where it circles the body of the reel. So could it have been just the dry gears and that sand maybe. Also do i need to grease HT 100 drags?
