That is actually incorrect. You do not this reel up like a traditional bait caster. You only tighten the knob until there is no more side to side play in the spool. You want NO tension on the spool itself. It explains it in the manual.

I see this is an older post - it was well done and helpful. thank you! I've been pitchin grass for a number of years and have come to do it pretty well on regular (non-DC type) baitcasters. I fished mostly spinning, but bought a few baitcasters once I got into pitching the milfoil, and getting reaction strikes, fishing fairly vertical, using fairly short (7 - 15 ft.) underhand pitches. Years later, I decided to get into the overhand casting, which I wasn't very good at, and ended up buying a few of the Shimano DC reels (150 DC Curados). They have helped me shortcut the learning curve some, but ultimately would like to go back to my non-DC reels also and feel reasonably proficient using them also. If I have very little issue with backlashes while fishing the non-DC reels, I'd like to use a couple of my DC reels to pitch with, so I can have more setups ready & rigged in my boat when the "reaction strike pitchin bite is on". I'm thinking setting #1 (not 4), and readjusting the spool tension knob to find that sweet spot where the bait falls slowly enough not to backlash, and hopefully that would bring the feel of the DC reel more to what I'm used to with the non-DC reels that I'm used to for the pitching technique. I know u were recommending the #4 setting, but that would be more break than I need or want. Just wanted your take on my plan before I fool around too much with it. Thanks much!

I'd definitely give it a shot! I'd recommend putting tape about 50 yards down on your spool so if it does mess up you can easily recover it. Just until you find that comfort setting! I'm glad this video helped you out! Thank you for watching and commenting

Hey man. Great video, I was wondering did you have a problem with the reel at first where you couldn’t tighten the cast control enough to where it wouldn’t stop moving side to side? When I tighten my cast control to the max it still moves a bit. Is that something to be concerned about or no?

This was a great vid iv been trying to pitch with my curado DC and my Mentanium DC . Question does rod matter ?
@FroggyStyle2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The rod will matter on how far you can pitch. Longer length longer pitch. Just depends on if you on land or boat. Easier to pitch off the side of a boat while standing.

Sorry but that is not how to set the tension. Comes factory set. Only change if spool shifts left or right. Do not follow these ideas or reel will be messed up. Read the inst. Manual

@@FroggyStyle i appreciate your channel. I just learned the hard way how my reel got messed up. Called Shimano and they said the brake adjustment is never used for pitching as it is set for no spool movement left to right and that is due to the chip. Maybe you could set to original and set to 4 and get same result and put up a second video?
@FroggyStyle2 жыл бұрын
@@richardj6593 I can confirm if you put this on anything other than 4 while pitching and flipping you will most likely backlash if you aren't fast to stop the spool
@richardj65932 жыл бұрын
@@FroggyStyle hi.. I did some research after telling you that the spool setting should not be touched. If you go to the you tube search for tackle warehouse and curado dc the shimano team does a video on the settings. Let me know what you think
@chrispeterson12472 жыл бұрын
Wrong! Lol you just put enough tension on the spool to take the play out. You have wayyyy to much tension on that spoon!! You will fuck up the reel lol when this bone head advice is followed.

I love how everyone tells me I'm wrong but I'm flipping jigs into cereal bowls from 30 yards away. Seems pretty perfect to me. Been using it this way for 3 years and have put over 1k fish on it. What's wrong about it? Bonehead. Rude ass old fuck
