Shimano Derailleur Rebuild Service guide for Beginners. DON'T neglect your derailleurs

This video is a full-service guide to rebuilding a Shimano derailleur. The derailleur in this video is a XTR M9000, but the process applies to the M9100, XT derailleur, etc. The process will work for just about any Shimano clutch based derailleur.
The service is not difficult and doesn't require many tools. As with all derailleurs, dirt will creep into the spring housing, which will eventually stiffen up the derailleur cage movement, which will result with stiffer shifting . Performing this service at least once a year will ensure smooth shifting. If you ride in wet and muddy conditions regularly, I would consider performing this service at least twice a season.

Those cage stop bolts have always been phillips, lol. Maybe it's just a holdover from the old days when more things were, like limit screws. Once again, excellent documentary. Particular thanks for detailing the clutch, haven't taken mine apart yet so had no idea how it worked. Pretty simple, really.

Great video. Protip: When fitting the clutch back to the axle, cycle the cage a little bit and the clutch will slip right in. I use the Dumond Tech I9 grease, such a little amount of grease required and the Shimano Shadow + grease always seems to be out of stock in Canada. Cheers!!

Have you ever considered using am ultrasonic cleaner? I think it would make light work of cleaning most of those components and to the best job

That's why i just by aliexpress derailleur, cheap works good and last longer. The sensah slr pro 11 speed was the best money ever spent on my bike lol. Better than my xt and gx.
