With the Shimano app you can adjust the amount of assist, timing, and sensitivity to input - to a limit. We had them all maxed out. One thing you cannot adjust is how long it stays on after you stop putting pressure on the pedal. Seems like a software thing but the newer motor stays on longer (maybe .5 sec) and is more sensitive to initial input. Downside is you can loop the bike if you are not careful and be taken by surprise when motor does not immediately shut down) takes a few rides and good brake work to be comfortable with this but ultimately is better in all situations I think (climbing, sharp corners, clearing obstacles, etc)

Great job! Nice test, I'm curious, because I have no clue, can the amount of time the power stays on after peddle stroke stops, be adjusted? It seems some much older bikes the motor stays on one to two strokes after you stop peddling. And the modern bikes have more of a shut off immediately when you stop peddling. Also do you think there is any downside to the power staying on momentary after peddle stroke. I'm starting to think, a switch to keep it on a moment in technical sections then off again.... maybe just always on.

This is off topic, but do you have some sort of bell attached to your bikes, after watching many of your vids, I’m thinking is this for bears ? 🤠

Yes, it is for bears. Hopefully it scares them before I see them but I’ve encounter two in 6 months, both already running the other direction. I’m told I need to silence these during videos but I’m conflicted because 1) I’ve tuned it out so I forget it’s going, 2) I want to set a good example. Thoughts?

@@roadlesstraveledtruckee Safety must be your number one concern when you ride in the beautiful location you reside in, I think the bells are a good idea, you never want to roll up and startle a bear, that might not end well, especially if there are cubs around, i enjoy your channel ! 🤠

Man idk how you can stand that bell

Yea, I’ve had that comment before and I know what you mean. Yesterday I scared my second bear down the trail. They hear me before I see them. It reminds me why I have the bell, and I honestly tune it out now - though I can’t tune out the slightest rattle of a bike part. The bell has the added advantage of alerting runners and other trail users too so, in retrospect, I would recommend one for anyone riding on a popular multi-use trail system. Thanks for “listening/watching…”

So much wrong with this test. First of all, you need a 300 2-stroke, e-bike epic fail. Learned nothing about ep8 vs ep801. Dropper post down entire test, how can you produce any power and try to finesse a bike up that mess out of the saddle from the get go?

the Ep8 is a solid motor. I have 2900 miles. No issues. I ride everyday.

Great to know. My first one had 1000 miles and was only replaced because of a connector problem, second one has about 500 and going strong. Glad to know it’s solid!
