Over 30 years of riding and I've have used all 3 tiers The the Ultimate polymer coated is the smoothest shifting of all. It is ideal if you want top performance mechnical shifting. I personally do not like the battery aspect for shifting.

Hi Ricky, stainless cables generally last the longest, but the coated cables offer better shift performance.

I decided to throw caution to the wind and upgrade an old ultegra 6800 setup to the polymer stuff. I hope the money is going to be worth it.

From your experience: Will the shifting of a cheap Alivio front lever/deraillieur be much smoother, when installing the ultimate cable/ferrules/liner/coating? The shifting cable is going around the bottom of the bottom bracket housing, then up, around the lever‘s swing an then down again to the clamping screw. So the cable is bent several times ...

For myself, this vid just demonstratres that the lower end stuff just needs to vanish, the Ferrule clip was ridiculous, why would they even sell that?
