Shimano Spheros 4K UPGRADING | Bearing and Gomexus

Another suggestion when buying new gear...always give a road test followup video or include it on the same review video. There's many youtubers that read the box and say how pretty it is, but don't use them on their experience. Guarantee you'll gain more subs...so go fight some fish my man!

Just upgraded my Spheros SW3000XG with these bearings, great upgrade! I pushed a little too hard on the worm gear bearing so I had to reset the plastic gear inside, but your instructions were spot on.

I have shimanos from the Stella down to the nasci. I just got the 3000 myself for a car / pond hoping reel. How much of a difference does those bearings make ? Is it night and day.

I'm ordering these pieces now cause I definitely wanna make this mod, but something else I would add to make the handle that much smoother is an extra shim between the bearing and the drive gear cause the ones they provide from the factory or a fraction too small cause a little bit of handle wiggle.

Yep I sometimes shim this out for less handle play but I felt this reel wasn’t bad with the factory shims! Thanks for the comment dude and good luck!

I think you would need a ceramic bearing though because the stainless steel ones would rust

Love your videos, is the upper worm gear bushing able to be swapped for a bearing on this reel? It seems since the Spheros SW 3K and 4K are retooled Stradic FK’s the upper worm gear bushing could be changed. If it can, do you know the part number for said bearing? Thanks 🙏

I’m not sure that a bearing can fit up there on the fK or the spheros… it seems the bushing that is at the upper worm gear is armed so I’m not sure a bearing would be a good idea here…

It makes it a little bit smoother but most might not feel a huge difference. I wouldn’t say you have to upgrade the bearings with other bearings for the price of the reel it’s not necessary!

Thank you for this video. Couple questions. It looked like you used Shimano replacement parts. Does boco make the same bearings? Will this upgrade help the reel fish better/last longer? Also have you ever used any of the replacement knobs from smooth drag, was wondering which one would fit...?

Yes they do but you would have to just enter the bearing dimension size instead of the shimano part number reference. I believe it would make the reel last longer as you swap nylon bushings that degrade over time into a replaceable bearing part! I have not used their handles unfortunately. How does rye amount of ball bearing affect this reel compared to the Nasci which has more, are there benefits to having fewer ball bearings?

Sometimes it is preferred to have nylon bushings in areas of low sealing to ensure the bearing doesn't corrode or fail where the bushing isn't a large factor impeding smoothness or refinement! I hope I explained that well enough!

Won’t changing plastic bushings to metal shielded bearings reduce the salt resistance dramatically?

It depends on a lot of things… does it create another fail point for saltwater? Answer: Yes! But if you add a thin layer of grease to the bearing doesn’t that make it water resistant? Answer: Yes! There are multiple things that make a saltwater reel designed for saltwater and increased sealing is one of them. This is the exact tradeofff that you are doing when upgrading bushings to bearings! So choose wisely!

I haven’t tried it on a 3000 yet but you would measure the bushings and replace them with the correctly sized bearings

Around $50 seems about right. These upgrades are only if you want to make the current reel you have, smoother.

You can probably fit about 200yards of 10lb braided line for a 3000 size and the 4000 you can hold 250yards if 15lb braid

It is very possible to swap the handle from left to right on this reel. Simply unscrew the handle and screw it back in on the right side of the reel, removing the cap and replacing it on the left side of the reel.

Yes they do come with bearings but they are very very cheap and actually make it worse than bushing!

The bearings are shielded but not “sealed” of course you can seal them by adding grease to both sides of the bearings!

Nope 3000 size shimano reels are the same as Shimano 2500 size reels just with extra drag and line capacity and with a different handle
