Superb explanation, if everybody would speak as honest as him then we all could save money and even more problems to stay healthy 👍. Have a beautiful day, greetings from The Netherlands 😃

Thank you for this video! Bought these PD-R8000E (+4mm) and was in doubt it was the right for me. I bought them as I've always struggled to fit into soccer/football shoes that has become narrower by the years. I therefore decided to buy the extra width edition as I might have a wider foot than average. As mentioned before I was questioning my buy, but as soon as you said fit for a "bigger dude" (I'm 182cm, 100+ kilos and semi-muscular), I'm no longer in doubt that I need those extra 4mm width as I'm pretty wide-hipped. Thank you for a informative video! Cheers, Stephen from Denmark.

brother , I know that weight has nothing to do with hip width. I still recommend that you do some research. i am writing from the translation, sorry if there is an error.

Whoa, thanks for that video. You described me to a “T”…bigger guy, mid 60’s and my right knee splays out when I ride my road bike with Speedplay Zero pedals. I am going to give those Shimano Ultegra pedals with the +4mm spindle a try. Happy to see they are currently on sale at Excel Sports. I think I will benefit from having my feet positioned with a wider stance. Thank you.

I ride the +4mm DuraAce pedals. Regular ones are too narrow for me. They feel great. Once you get the stance width down, you'll have good power. I ride Bont Vapor S shoes Wide. The holes are drilled a bit wider. I run my cleats all the out to bring the foot in and with the +4 pedals, it puts me right where I need to be.

I totally understand what you mean, and am in the exact same boat as you. I found the wide +4mm DA pedals with cleats pushed all the way out to be a better option than standard width DA pedals with cleats pushed all the way in. Both options result in IDENTICAL stance width (which was mentioned in the video) - BUT the way the holes are drilled on my shoes (Giro Factor Techlace) means the cleat is perfectly centred under the sole when jammed outwards. When jammed inwards the cleat sticks out weirdly past the inside (bike side) of the shoe and doesn't feel as balanced.

Im struggling with my right knee pains over a year! Ive went to one of the best known fitters here and he didnt even checked the stance width factor. I have a very very strong feeling that my right foot is too close to the center. I just feel how my entire right leg and its knee bent inward, and i have heavy suspition that this is the main cause for that knee pains! I will try to find these ultegera extra 4 mm- why is it so damn expensive? And why there are no more options?? I wish to thank you for this video its just focused my feel!

Any update with the new pedals? I've seen my bike fitter multiples and for some reason we can't get rid of my right knee lateral pain.
@ozzz3365
@ozzz3365 4 ай бұрын
My pain is in front of the knee. Not lateral. Its around the higher part of the patella in the center of the leg not on the sides. For me, increasing the q-factor, means increasing the distance from the bike center to the foot, made some relief. Maybe my hips are broader then usual. For your pain I recommend checking your 1. foot/ankle angle while standing on the floor. Maybe you have pronation or opposit high arch and should imitate it to the bike or correct it with footbeds. 2. I would also check the "line" between hip-knee-spindle to see if its streight and mimic the way you are standing on floor. 3. I would check seat height-not too high not too low. 4. Maybe over training or too stiff muscles that need jacuzzi and stretching? 5. Trying to change the distance of the q-factor of your pain leg, try to decrease it 5 mm and see if help, try to increase it 5 mm and see if better. You can do it by moving the cleat to left/right on the shoe. 6. Be carful of placing the cleats to foward! It can make problems. 7. Be curful of placing the cleats too angled- your feet should not be too open like charlie chaplin but also not too closed ! It should be directed naturally, almost center, mimic your feet angle when you sitting on table with your upper body leaning forward like on the bikes. Feel free to ask me.

Never realized how wide my really ass is until you pointed this out. Thanks, I guess for making me aware of yet another gizmo I need to buy to feed my healthy cycling habit! Kidding - so is your understanding is that your knees should effectively be in a parallel position to the feet when pedaling? My knees currently bow out with the standard SPD pedals I'm using now.

It was more of “less pinching of my hips” for me personally, but for many it’s because they have wider hips

Hello Sit, will this help with my lateral knee pain? My fitter and I have tried multiple settings with my cleats and still struggling with my right knee pain. We've had my pointed outwards maxed before hitting the crank and i still had knee pain. Im at a loss with my issue. 😢😢😢

Are those types of cleats better then SPD cleats? I have problems with foot numbness when the cleats are under the ball of my foot. I had my SPD cleats moved back to the arch position and no more pain when I ride my recumbent trike.

I personally notice the POSITION of the cleat is more important than the TYPE of cleat. I have SPD's too on my cyclocross bike...but same position. No problems.

Put the cleats backward as you can on the shoes. Secondly, Make sure you set your saddle low enough for your shorter leg. That means both of your feet will reach to the bottom of the pedal stroke and not only foot will bare the pressure.

Hi do you think +4mm would fits in a 5'6'Height?
@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia
@cyclinginsoutherncalifornia 2 жыл бұрын
It has more to do with the natural width of your stance than with height… the width of your hips and the angles of your legs, thus, your height doesn’t matter

Do you guys think, 4 mm (8 mm in both pedals) is enough differene? If i compare myslef 6.3 to someone rly small and imagine, that the difference in gear should be 8 mm, it makes me suspicious.
