I ordered an integrated carbon bar and while waiting for it needed a set of wheels and stem/bar to move the bike around in the shop. I have a Specialized bar and Cannondale stem and when I put them together they felt amazingly light so I weighed them. They are 5 grams lighter than the advertized weight of the carbon bar. The aluminum wheels are Prolite and the 40 mm deep rims weigh slightly less than the 55 mm deep carbon wheels and more importantly have even spoke tension which no carbon wheels I've had have. This means that there is less tendency for the wheels to wander on high speed hard cornering. Less correction means higher average speed and safer ride. Time to start thinking Al again.

Perfect timing for this video. I've been looking for pedals to replace the SPDs I've been using, but couldn't make a decision. Fine, spend another 5 hours looking at all the options as the LBS is closed due to pandemic. Frustrating, but you mentioned the Exustar that you had used. Excellent video & you really hit the nail on the head so to speak on the pro's & cons of each system. I can tell you now that the Xpedo's don't hold up as well over time because of the plastics. I've got the same one with but with titanium spindles which are supposed to be 199g. After a few seasons use the back plastic part where the spring tension is adjusted has some issues with maintaining proper tension. Xpedo recognized this & addressed it in the newer Thrust design.

I've had these pedals for about 3 months now and have about 500 miles (~800km) They Seem to be holding up very well. They paint on the areas where they contact the cleat in slightly wearing off, but that's just cosmetic. The springs that clip the cleats in loosen up around 300 miles. ( I had them at half tension adjustment, so I just tightened them more) It's not like they lose the ability to hold the cleat, but they become noticeably easier to clip in and out on the same tension setting. As for the plastic on the pedals It has held up very well. Based on appearance and their durability I think the clear plastic parts that retain the springs are polycarbonate plastic, which is an excellent choice. Polycarbonate is known for its high strength and impact resistance (It's what they use in bulletproof glass, and safety glasses) I don't think the longevity of them is something to worry about. On a final note in reference to 8:30. My pedals loosened up after the first 75 miles or so. I don't know if it is because I ride particularly hard (probably not) or the fact that we regularly see 100f degree plus (38c plus) days here.

I got the Thrust 7 pedals some days ago and if they will last for 20.000 km or more I should by 70+ years old ;-) I think a did not make a mistake by ordering the xpedos on Aliexpress. By the way: to me the clear plastic parts at the back of the padel looks more like a cover to protect the tension spring from dust or dirt and has no function in the adjustable retention system more than give some scale line to get the tense similar on each pedal, cheers from Berlin, Germany

Have you thought about inner tubes? The Revoloop inner tubes are only 39 g or 25 g (race or race.ultra version) each. Schwalbe tubes weigh approx. 100 g. Saving 118 g or 150 g of rotating mass for roughly 50€. The 39 g version offers a bit more puncture protection and its thermoplastic is said to be tougher than normal butyl rubber. Tubolito is another company which makes these tubes with 23 g for the lightest tube and 38 g for the tougher version. Just ordered some for my gravel bike, where they save even more weight (120g/tube).
@TraceVelo4 жыл бұрын
*Stares into the distance* 'Inner tubes, now thats a name i've not heard in a long time...' No, but seriously thats a great suggestion, but I recently joined the tubeless elite. Controversial maybe. I am usually not sensitive to ... well anything (if you ask my wife). But I think Shimano pedals, especially the new PD-RS500 (I like the light actions, sue me!?) are 1374.29 times better, than the Look equivalents. Bigger platform, better catch, easier clipping in/out, snappier retention. I tried Look for a while because of the weight, and I started falling over, pretty bad on one occasion, because their retention is gummy.

Thanks for being the guinea pig. Theres a few things here. Some companies (Shimano) take pride in their product. Others build to a price and are clever at making them look fabulous. Some nations believe if you can lower your profit to sell a product cheaper it means the competition don't sell their product and go out of business. However, there are those that know spending a little more with the reputable brand who specialises in that field, will not have to worry about their purchase. A good tradesman buys good tools once.

I have a set f these. I went for them because they have proper bearings. I killed the bearings in a set of 105 pedal far too quickly. I also like the pedals are avaliable in different colours( red theme on my bike). I don't have enough mileage on them to comment on durability yet. Hadn't thought about the glass fibre. It certainly does increase the strength but more importantly the wear resistance. Cleats (and retention clips like 105s) do wear specially if you "walk" much in your cycling shoes

I think your perhaps your missing one of the most important points about these cheap pedals and that's that will all use a cheap bushing instead of a bearing on in inner side, even the exustar. Which is fine, even saves weight but they are less efficient and can be prone to noise and premature wear. Even the cheap shimano cup-and-cone style bearings are a much better alternative if you don't want to spend money on pedals which are completely cartrage/roller bearings.

Xpedo Thrust 7 are great, have ridden 2000km so far and are like new. I'm a 30 year experienced bike mechanic and the pedal are same level or better than Look's or Time's. Shimano's / Welgo's are great but has lots of grams more and costs more. Pay less, recycle (properly) more. There's no more point on having long lasting bike parts, the tecnology changes very fast. Sometimes, there's no more reason to pay for fancy parts that lasts 10, 15 years because it becomes obsolete over time.

Really like your build . I think you made a good choice using the Tiaurga group set just as good as 105 or ultregra For that matter. The difference is just a little bit of weight I know you would’ve went with duration if you had the money I would too but I don’t need to take a mortgage out for a group set. LoL. My bike is a lemons Nevada city frame and fork all 853 Reynolds steel. Trying to find though Lemond carbon forks from the other frame sets that are a little bit higher up in the ladder but they will fit my frame the only difference is the bikes cost more came with different components in Carbon Fork. I am after the carbon fork but really no hurry when I find it I find it until now the 853 still has been fine . I purchased this as a complete build . Luckily it came with ultregra 10 speed . It is 100% ultregra . Upgraded the wheels as soon as I got the bike to vuelta cords team V clincher wheel set . Very light at just a little over 1400 g . Then I got a carbon fiber she post a carbon seat and I got a steel bike frame set that weighs under 20 pounds. Can you believe it it’s like 19 lbs. 10 oz. that’s stripped of course without any saddlebags or extra tubes being carried with you or anything but I still did it under 20 for a steel bikes.I am actually a new subscriber
