Shimming a Harley engine & Bolting it down.

You should always check to see if you Harley Davidson motor need to be shimmed. It's important that the motor is mounted on a flat surface. This prevents vibration and case wear. You bolt the back of the engine down and torque it to specs then get feeler gauges to check the front mounts. I look for .003 inches or less. You can get shim stock to the size you need on Amazon. Good Video Rap , Even on a Evo that is cocked off by 5/16 or more I picked up a set of Chevy and Ford shim kit at O'Reilly . to bolt the primary to engine it was rocking on the trans Big time I figured it break the casing or tear up the Clutch or engine o-ring lip . It worked , I know the old Ridged frame they had to shim the trans and engines to get it lined up .

I've cut a few beer cans for the final gap when the shims didn't fit perfectly. Sounds like cheapy shit but an old man taught me that 50 years ago.

I use whatever I have available to me. The only issue with beer cans are they are aluminum and can squish out. 50 years ago they were tin and that would hold its shape. In a pinch I’d still use a beer can. Thank you for commenting and watching.
