Shin Kamen Rider is meant to illustrate the idea that these guys are technologically enhanced beings and every punch is equivalent to being hit by a speeding freight train. The only thing I would've wished they had done were long cuts similar to Rurouni Kenshin action sequences alongside The Raid films, because Kamen Rider is a martial arts based superhero. But the CGI, as bad as it is, is way more tasteful than a boring blob of green screen menace.

It’s all in the computer and that’s it. Also the numerous cuts in fights makes them unbearable to watch. It’d be easier to count to a million than counting the amount of unnecessary cuts a single fight scene has in that movie. Also the fights in infinity war and a lot of other marvel fights are so much more coherent than the ones here in kamen rider. You can actually tells what’s happening and definitely still feel the impact of every hit. I’ll admit that newer fights they’ve made haven’t hit the same but compared to trash like this the marvel fights feel like a holy sight. And it’s not like I went into this movie strictly to hate on it. I went into it knowing hideaki anno and a bit of kamen rider as well. I watched evangelion and the rebuild movies and have watched a bit of kamen rider as well. I went into it expecting at least some cool choreographed fights, fights that didn’t have any of that dumb chi you’re talking about. But instead we got noodle people flying around and a bunch of dumbasses that can barely stand during their fights. On top of all that the dialogue was so cringy. Real life people don’t talk like anime characters and it seems this dude forgot that. But man the worst scene in the movie had to be the one with the scorpion woman(I think that’s what she was). Jesus as if that type of character wasn’t cringy enough in anime, in real life it’s even worse. The only good part about the scenes with her is that it ended quickly. Not that it mattered either cause I still had the rest of the movie to watch. Overall this movie is hot garbage that the only thing I got from it is a new appreciation for everything else I thought was hot garbage.

Nah this film is just embarrassingly awful. I went into it thinking “I’ve seen some kamen rider and watched all of evangelion so this film should be at least somewhat enjoyable” but came out with almost a mental crisis because of how shit it was. Mind numbing dialogue, horrible cgi, terribly choreographed fights, and a plot that isn’t anywhere near good enough to carry those other elements of the movie. Imo. I think this movie is good, except in the part where the anti-shocker captured scorpio augment and the fight with wasp augment, i think its ok. I love the rest, i love how Kamen Rider 1 is introduced, i love his action, and his character thats suprisingly work on me. And i love how Kamen Rider 2 introduced and then immediatly become my favorit character, and then BOOM. Hes the main guy now. AND ALSO, THE OST/THEME. I just love it. I wish i can rewatch it again if i had a lot of times. But i see the problem, perhaps a lot of people just havent get used with this style of story telling, and also didnt get used to hear japanese. As a long time KR fan, I see so many dumb arguments in the comments for why this movie is beyond criticism. Making a movie a love letter to an old TV show and manga is not a good argument for someone looking for a focused story. In fact, it's a moronic argument. If you're going to adapt a long story into a 2 hour movie, you have to cut out A LOT or make a new story. If you're gonna end up with a messy story as a love letter to fans but STILL PUT IT IN THEATRE, then expect criticism. Nobody is "wrong" for calling this out, a movie must be able to stand on it's own regardless if it's faithful to the original manga, no point telling anyone about it's accuracy as if most of them are going to bother reading it and if the final product is still a mess. They want to see a film, not a manga, and should not be made to read or enjoy it to appreciate the movie, especially if they're first timers going into the franchise which I think this movie is a bad start. Because guess what? ANYBODY is welcome to watch the movie, even people who has never watched or read KR. And if there are people who don't like it, all the power to them. They should be allowed to voice their negative opinions as much as the people whom voice their positive opinions on it. This is common sense.

Those camera angles were a product of it's time and it's limitations, it's expected that there will be ppl who wants to see better editing in a remake. Especially ppl who has never seen KR and expect a better result. Whilst I'm very mixed on it, I don't blame ppl for having a negative view. He's not even the only one who has that opinion, and all the power to them for voicing it unapologetically just like those whom have a positive spin on it. I enjoyed the original kr but I didn't care for those homage to the camera angles, nor did I really mind much. Believe it or not, those camera angles are not for everybody and it seems to be a pretty common criticism. Saying it's an homage to an old school show is as bad as saying it's closer to the manga, it doesn't matter if it divides ppl. If the movie can generate the same negative feedback and divide audiences instead of appealing to the majority, it has failed it's job as a movie.I don't even see that as nitpicking seeing as how early 2000s movie did that a lot (albeit with slightly better editing) and was thought of as lazy in the industry. If Anno wanted to pay homage to that old school style, he should go all the way with the old shitty camera and editing, whilst maintaining the updated story. Forget about modern filmmaking, make the editing quality as shit as possible and make it resemble those old times, not like it would save the story for those that don't like it, but at least they would know what they're getting, a kids show which is what it was. Only then would it appeal to more ppl at least. But even this type of thought process like choosing old cameras and editing are normally released as arthouse indies, not made for general viewing, which isn't KR. For this case, it is made for people who has so much nostalgia for the original series that they are willing to look past it's flaws as evident by the comment sections below. And the camera angles is the least of the problems this film has.

I dunno what you're going on about with audience division because this is a case where you're either a rider fan or you're not. People most likely would encounter Kamen Rider through word of mouth which is mostly oriented towards TV series, and they'll likely watch the show first before the movie. To imply that this movie is gonna divide an already divided audience that has specific tastes especially with the ever changing motifs of seasons, simply does not make sense.

Nah it was really bad. First the cgi. I don’t think there has been worse cgi in a movie than in this one. Most of the Kaijins are literally Brainwashed and also all of those scenes is the reason why Hideako wanted to show us BEFORE making Evangelion. He wanted the movie fateful to original, like low usage of the cgi and more importantly the angles of the movie that needed to be similar to the original. Hideaki's evangelion is the reason he wanted to show us what he wanted to the movie, by using his anime as a tool for inspiration and creativity. Evangelion is suppose to be his inspiration towards the Shin Kamen Rider movie he can't show it due to the fact that he doesn't have the resources to do so. He uses his anime as a catalyst for his inspiration and it literally work. I totally understand the criticisms, the first time I watched this movie I had very mixed feelings on it, thank God they did a second showing from popular demand. Because my second viewing completely changed my perspective and I really love the movie. I think that reading and watching the supplemental material really helps, also I always think it's funny people complain about certain aspects of Anno's work and yet those are usually the aspects that people praise in stuff like evangelion. I guess it just goes to show that over time tastes can really change and the context in which you do some of the same stuff can drastically change how people feel about it

I enjoyed both this and Shin Ultraman. The camera angles are great! The compositions are visually interesting. This one didn’t have as many as Ultraman tho. It’s heavy handed like the last few episodes of Eva. So, that’s just how Anno writes. Only real complaint was the fight against all the clones or whatever near the end was too dark. Could hardly tell what was happening. Also Rider 2 could’ve been fleshed out more. Fun movies overall

They used MCU insults because it's easy, since MCU movies doesn't require any thinking to enjoy, therefore implying that someone who likes MCU movies are dumb, and I see these kinds of insults everywhere, not just in this comments section. It has nothing to do with tokusatsu. How does liking the gore a contradiction? The mess that the guy mentioned were the insanely rushed story, disorienting editing, odd camera angles and monotonous monologues, none of which has anything remotely related to the gore. The liberties they took with the story weren't that bad. The fight scenes and suits were off the hook. I just wish we got to see a proper henshin. Seeing them in the suit, the entire film was a bit distracting for me. That first rider kick was really cool too.
