Devil summoner in general has a lighter tone than mainline SMT
@Zamiel13242 жыл бұрын
So the SMT series starts with Japanese Stephen Hawking and team asking "wouldn't it be cool if humans could teleport?" they "succeed" and shenanigans ensue through time and space. So yes SMT and Persona are connected but you shouldn't think too hard about it.

So in short: Devil Summoner is one of the Megami Tensei subseries, where instead of focusing on the philosophy and the apocalypse, the stories are more detective mysteries but with demons involved. First two games plus the upcoming one (Devil Summoner and Soul Hackers 1 and 2) take a more cyberpunk vibe, whereas the remaining two Raidou games are more about the titular protagonist solving demonic mysteries in a 1930s Japan. This version of the track is taken directly from Raidou 2, where it's used as a boss theme for a certain fight, not as an actual main boss theme like in the og DeSum. Highly recommend checking out the og version in your free time too - it's a banger in its own rights. As for Shoji Meguro, yeah he's been around for a while. He's been a mainstay at ATLUS since Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, which came out in 2003 and served as the main composer for almost all major MegaTen projects until 2009, including the aforementioned Raidou games. Now he only does Persona music and the reign to other parts of the MegaTen umbrella's music are relegated to different composers, most notably Ryota Kozuka of the modern mainline SMT fame.

Am interesting fact is that in later SMT Devil Summoner games Atlus chose a setting of Imperial Japan moving toward industrialization and Western culture around 1930s so we are talking revolution, modern army and guns, trains, clashs of traditional Japan etc so the trumpet and jazz in here makes alot of sense.

History Lesson on Shin Megami Tensei and related brands: Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei is an NES game (or Famicom more accurately) that is an adaptation of a novel. It received a sequel, also on the NES. When the SNES came around, instead of making a third game, it spun off into its own franchise that was not an adaptation, Shin Megami Tensei. Shin Megami Tensei would receive two additional games on the SNES: Shin Megami Tensei 2 and Shin Megami Tensei If. The latter of these is the one that causes things to get weird. SMT If takes place in an alternate universe to the first two games, with a high school setting and a more character-driven/psychological plot. The original Persona game takes place just one year after SMT If, on the same timeline. The entire Persona series takes place after If, with 5 even calling back to some of If's main themes. Persona and SMT If aren't the only games on this timeline, though. The Devil Summoner Games are also on this timeline, which includes the original Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, both Raidou games, and presumably Soul Hackers 2. Despite Soul Hackers being called "Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoners Soul Hackers", Soul Hackers 2 drops both the SMT and Devil Summoner brands from the title. There are of course many other SMT spinoffs that take place in their own worlds, and not all mainline SMT games take place in the same universe, as a lot of it is about the destruction and recreation of the universe. Most SMT spinoffs don't use the "Shin Megami Tensei" title in Japan, however (which includes Persona and Devil Summoner), instead only using that to tie the brand together in the west, with it just being called some variation of "Megami Tensei" in Japan. Fans usually refer to this expanded multiverse as "Megaten" in reference to "Megami Tensei". Persona used to be referred to as "Megami Ibunroku Persona" in Japan to tie it to the rest of the brand, but when it became massively more popular than the series it spun off from, they dropped that and just started calling it Persona. The same thing happened in the west, as it used to be called "Shin Megami Tensei Persona" in localizations, but that was eventually dropped for the same reason. This probably sounds very confusing but that's the gist of it.

Nice, even though this track is originaly from the first Devil Summoner Game, this is the rendition from the Raidou games, all have great soundtracks imo

Like when u asked in a previous video, Devil Summoner happens in the same world as Persona, and that world is an alternate timeline where Shin Megami Tensei has not happened, which is why SMT is apocalyptic, and Persona + Devil Summoner are modern and urban. Currently there are 4 main Devil Summoner games with Soul Hackers 2 releasing next month

The repeated 3 note trumpet bit after the 'solo' part is a recurring motif for the Devil Summoner games with Raidou as the main character.
