The falling better known in Aikido as (Ukemi) shows the the power of not being thrown, but rather one being taken down by their own force that they deliver in their own attacks - the only Difference is, is that they are just being guided allong in the direction they are moving..

wonderful demonstration of fantastic Aikido. Someone who knows can watch and see if what they are seeing is skills performed by someone who can be effective and "deadly" or someone who only knows the "dojo" skill sets or what I call Fluffy Bunny version. Usually very obvious and clear very quickly in a video. Demonstrations and training are very different than real life street. You can't really show the real life street version, most of the time, because it is to harmful and damaging to actually do it in the same way as for real . Most people misunderstand that most youtube videos are demonstrations and dojo executions of these skills. No one really tries to harm anyone. As well Uke complies as so not to be harmed. I can see the skills here and I enjoy watching this channel.

It is worth remembering when looking at Akido and Daito-Ryu demonstrations, that the actual combative application would be much faster and much more violent, the throws are aimed to destroy the shoulder and elbow joints, or crash the head into the ground. The big wheel throws are ‘safe’ practice throws to not injure the uke ( person being thrown).

Lol weightlifters can fight better than aikkdokas
@metalheartmachine5 жыл бұрын
As to weightlifters: It depends. I have had experience with weightlifters. Yes, the sheer physical power IS very dangerous, but the amount of joint, muscle and spine flexibility needed to successfully survive a throw or joint lock is quite a lot, and bulk really impairs that. So, power sucks getting hit by, but muscle is also sensitive to attack, and bulky muscle pushes nerves and blood vessels into the spaces between making pressure point attacks to them much easier when grappling. It is a balance thing, each has advantages and disadvantages that really lend themselves to the specialization of the person using them.
@kimlitelnoni40795 жыл бұрын
@@metalheartmachine whoah you had experience with weightlifters? Damn bro. How did it go?

Vs. weightlifters it is all the balance between power and flexibility. There are are plenty of weightlifters who maintain flexibility and those that do not, but Japanese martial arts tend to favor physiques that are more Japanese. There are a lot of movements that get really awkward if you are too tall or too bulky.

So many experts saying "Aikido is useless" Is it an effective combat sport? No it that context in a grappling match etc or as a combat sport it is useless. However in a true self defence setting it can work! When i was working the doors no one just runs up and hits you. In sometimes happens but rarely does it happen like that. What happens is something called the pre fight. And that involves someone usually getting in your face or pointing fingers etc or usually an aggressive push! In this context you can use the locks effectively

@Ace Frehley do you even remotely know how to fight? By the time the back of the head of somebody doing a double leg take down is open to an elbow attack, they are at your crotch level. You have almost no leverage to power an elbow that low. You should be PUNCHING them in the back of the head or temples if you are going for strikes or shift to a guilotine grapple if going the grapple route. Who taught you hapkido again? Because i need to have words with your grand master on how he utterly failed you. I'm sorry...but you seemed to have gone to a bullshido hapkido school if you were never properly taught how to deal with takedowns to a point where you think elbows to the back of the head is the answer.

@akulahawk4 жыл бұрын
Aikido DOES work. The real question is "when should it be used?" The ART side of Aikido is absolutely NOT going to be easily adaptable to combat. The "long" forms just won't work. They give you insight into how the "short" forms work. It's the "short" forms that can be quite devastating if applied correctly. Those aren't supposed to be "nice." The other part of this is Aikido ISN'T or SHOULDN'T BE used in isolation. Rokas (of martialartsjourney) proved this pretty well. He tried to apply "straight" Aikido in a combative situation. He lost spectacularly. IIRC he doesn't/didn't study Yoshinkan Aikido. It's more combat oriented. Rokas might have fared a little better if he had studied that version. In a combative situation, NONE of the martial arts will be able to provide a complete "answer" to the problem at hand on their own. Over the years, I've studied a few martial arts, though none to mastery. What quickly became obvious over the years is that in a fight, striking, grappling, pinning, and breaking stuff all have their places. What I learned from Aikido is proper distancing and how "not to be there" because of it. I'm going to try to keep you far enough away from me so that you can't move inside my reaction time. That buys me time to use striking techniques to keep you busy. With the timing part of Aikido, if I see an opening that I can exploit, I'll use it. That could mean a strike, a throw, joint lock which disables use of an appendage, or even me running away. I do use Aikido (and concepts from it) at certain times and those times I have used it, it does work. However my goal when I do use it isn't to fight, it's for pain compliance and to take your leverage away from you.
@ColdNapalm424 жыл бұрын
@@akulahawk you realize that you just spent all that effort explaining why aikido actually DOESN'T work...right? All you got from it is distance and timing. Something you learn from any REAL martial arts and hell even things like ballet dancing. What real martial arts offers on top of that is the striking, grappling or whatever techniques you need to use with that in situations that comes up. You know, with you the student having to modify things. I have used joint locks from hapkido in fights just fine as I learned them. I have used throws from jujitsu in fights as I learned them. If you can not do the same with aikido...guess what, it's doesn't work.
