Now you understand why SHINee are considered the gold standard of live performances. This is why they are legendary, and they still sing live to this day. This also demonstrates why Jonghyun is still considered the best vocalist of Kpop with Onew running second. These guys trained themselves how to sing live while dancing hard choreos by running together while singing. So many idols/groups from the 3rd, 4th, and upcoming 5th generations cite SHINee or one of the members as their idols and why they got into Kpop. Many groups have also "borrowed" past SHINee concepts for their own performances which shows just how much of an influence they have had over the entire Kpop world. They all try to attain what is known throughout the industry as the "SHINee Standard". For me, they are the ultimate performers and artists within Kpop. The best thing is that SHINee is still churning out performances like this today, and they show no signs of stopping. This set of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)," "Shine," "Stranger" (and "Picasso") is part of the intro of the concert, but the whole concert is just as intense and amazing as what you just saw. They perform more than 30 songs all with live vocals the entire time. This performance was from their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul, so it was in 2015. As you know, Key is our fashionista in the group. He has actually been given the official title as SM's Director of Fashion and he is known for creating the outfits for a lot of SHINee's MVs and live performances. Key designed several outfits for this concert, including the ones you see them wearing in this set. The embellishments and design for these military style uniforms were created by him. Key has even been given the official title as SM's director of fashion. If you think this performance was insane, just wait until you see the full concert. They perform like this for 3 hours straight and they never take more than a 5-minute break in between sets to change their clothes and get ready for the next set. If you watch this full set, you will see there is actually one more song in this set, "Picasso." They literally go from one song to the next without even skipping a beat. They don't even have a chance to catch their breath, and yet, right after that, when they interact with the audience, they don't even look or sound like the performance has even started. And they do it all while singing live the whole time. :D "Sherlock" is a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's Sherlock album, "Clue" and "Note." Therefore, Minho's whisper part is different than what you heard in the MV, because when they perform it live, they chose different parts of "Clue" and "Note" to create "Sherlock" each time. So, their performance is never exactly the same, which is one reason why SHINee's concerts are considered one of the best. No matter how many times you have heard a song or seen them perform, you will never get the same thing twice. Those vocals are why SHINee are known as one of the best live performances in Kpop. Jonghyun is one of the best vocalists in the industry, and what you just experienced is why SHINee is one of the most well-respected groups around. As you can see, Jonghyun, Onew, Key and Taemin all have amazing high notes in "Sherlock". Even as rookies, Jonghyun and Onew were so well respected for their vocal abilities that they were mentors and vocal coaches for several SM artists, including some of the members of EXO. If you are impressed with Jonghyun's long high note in "Stranger" -- which is about 20 seconds long -- just wait. Although Jonghyun has some impressive high notes, it doesn't even come close to what Onew can do. Check out Onew's performance of "Friend," where he broke the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, at 40+ seconds. (Just search "Onew 'Friend' live performance" or "Onew 40 second note" and you will find fancam clips of it.) And watch out for Key, he will shock you with his high note in "Like a Fire" live at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul in 2014, kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXXViHusndp_rsU. As you are starting to discover, SHINee live is 3000% better than any of their studio versions of their songs -- which says a lot, because SHINee's albums are perfection, and it's pretty hard to outdo perfection. LOL As you heard, SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are considered CD-quality singers for a reason. :D SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing, so they avoid it at all costs. Therefore, when you hear SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography like this and maintain this level of vocals and performance from beginning to end. SHINee live is like none other, and their stages are some of the best in the industry. SHINee literally set the standard when it comes to live performances. It is actually known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups strive to reach. SHINee are Idols' Idols and legends among legends. They are one of the groups that pretty much made Kpop what it is today.
