Juliette was the first song where Jonghyun's self-written lyrics were chosen among 40 other options for this song. As you can easily see the imagery is on another level to the songs before.

SHINee's "Replay" isn't just nostalgic, it's legendary. And SHINee are legends. Every new rookie group in the industry has covered "Replay" at least once in their career and it's one of those songs that is pretty much compulsory for everyone to know and learn, even still today. The Noona (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***, Victoria from F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is, Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Noona neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Noona neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Noona neomu yeppeo is a term that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Noona neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them. ***** SHINee and F(x) are both SM Entertainment groups, they debuted within a year of each other, they both are 5 member groups (Now 4 member groups ;( ) and they have similar music styles and concepts, etc. F(x) is pretty much the female version of SHINee. (And all the members are very close like siblings.) "Replay" is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. Check out their performance of "Replay" from 2015 at their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqWUlWatf5ljo7c This song means so much to SHINee and Shawols. And this is why SHINee are Icons. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. They are revered for their concert performances. And even as rookies, senior artists would stop what they were doing to watch SHINee's rehearsals on music programs because no one was singing live and pulling off intense choreography the way SHINee did it. SHINee's flawless live vocals and impressive dancing is what they are known for. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, they will be singing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight in concert. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. You just witnessed baby SHINee and were already blown away, just imagine what it will be like as you go through their discography and MVs. They have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 13+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups as trendsetters. This song was way ahead of its time when it first came out. SHINee are known for never being afraid to experiment with their style and sound in a song and for the fact that no two songs of theirs will ever be the same even on the same album. SHINee are always setting trends, never following them. As SM's experimental boy group, nothing you hear from SHINee will ever sound the same, and, yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. So this shows just how talented even as teenagers SHINee were. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines you have to watch their live concert performances. Fun fact: SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. They all can rap and sing because they were training to be a hip-hop group. But as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag to pull of hip-hop, so SM switched up their sound and style to something that fit them better and they came up with the signature classic SHINee R&B vocals they are now known for. I, for one, am so glad they debuted with their signature R&B style instead of hip-hop. I can't imagine the world if we never knew the amazing vocals and sound that is SHINee today. Things would be so different. SM Entertainment is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry because they put a huge emphasis on finding and creating the best vocalists in Kpop. ALL of SM's artists were chosen to become an SM trainee for their vocal and/or dance skills. You can't be an SM artist without having outstanding singing and dancing ability. So all of SM's rappers were first chosen for their singing and/or dancing and they learned to rap, or at least become good at it, after they joined the company. That is why, once you get more into SM groups, you will discover that even SM's rappers could be main vocalists. Just take a look at any of SM's rappers -- U-Know from TVXQ, Eunhyuk, Shindong and Heechul from Super Junior, Hyeyeon from Girls Generation, Minho and Key from SHINee, Amber from F(x), Chanyeol and Sehun from EXO, Irene from Red Velvet, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, YangYang and Lucas from WayV, Giselle from aespa, etc. -- they are all amazing vocalists as well. SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet the members are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc., which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. It just goes to show you why they are legends in the industry. I think you know how good of vocalists EXO are, well, the members of SHINee -- Jonghyun and Onew, to be specific -- actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. (Even as rookies Onew and Jonghyun were highly respected for their vocal talent.) The members of EXO and the members of SHINee are all around the same age and they were all part of the same trainee classes together, and, yet, SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO, so that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends. When SHINee debuted Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14. Onew (Real name Lee JinKi) is the one in the hat, Jonghyun is the one with the headphones, Key is the one in green, Minho is the one playing basketball, and Taemin is the one in yellow. As you can see by their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was already one of the best dancers in the industry. If you like their dancing then you need to see SHINee's dance practice for "Replay" kzbin.info/www/bejne/naeZYaGIaMRpb7c. It's not an official dance practice video because dance practice videos didn't become a thing until 2010 when SHINee released the industry's very first dance practice video with their song "Lucifer," but it is a real dance practice video from way back to SHINee's debut days that they filmed as part of footage to be shown on a TV program. SHINee were literally the first group to ever release a dance practice video specifically for fans and they are the reason why Kpop groups produce dance practice/choreography videos today. SHINee is pronounced like Shiny -- as in shiny stars or Shiny diamonds -- because they are so magnificent that they need a double ee to show just how brilliant they shine. They SHINe(e) like the sparkling performers that they are. That is also why their symbol is a diamond.

They were so very young when they started out. Taemin with the bowl cut was only 14 years old! Replay is still one of the best debuts ever. The song still holds up really well to today’s sound and the vocal adlibs are spectacular! Love Like Oxygen is one of my favorite of their older tracks because of the funky sound. I feel like Amigo is a little underrated but I still love it! Juliette is a classic. The tight colorful jeans sparked a trend in the Kpop industry for that style. All of their songs hold up surprisingly well considering they are almost 14 years old. SHINee also experiments with a wide range of different musical styles so don’t be surprised when they branch off into something new. I’m looking forward to more reactions!

As other's have mentioned, although, "Amigo" sounds like the Spanish word for friend, in Korean A.Mi.Go was/is a well known acronym for the Korean phrase that means, something like: "You will suffer on your way to falling in love with a beauty." So, the story is about how the girl stole Minho's heart. She took his heart and left him with the note that is hanging around his neck. She has unfrozen him with her touch and put color back into the world. However, as the song says, "Cold heart, baby ... Cold eyes, baby." They are saying they have fallen for her, but as "the ice princess," she is always unavailable and just out of arm's reach. But they can't help falling for her anyway. That is why Minho is chasing after her. If you notice, she is always one step ahead of him. He can never catch her no matter how hard he tires. That is why she is the "Ice princess." she is sexy and intoxicating, but she is always playing hard to get. The MV is literally depicting every word of the song. As the English translation of the lyrics say: "go, I run, ... Challenges are always fun, ... But the world isn’t as easy as it seems. ... I lose my mind when I see her, ... I'm unable to grasp her by this hand," etc. The story in the MV makes a lot more sense when you combine it with the lyrics. On a side note: Minho is the visual of the group who is known for his natural model good looks. His nickname is Flaming Charisma and he is also known for being super athletic and competitive, so that is why he is the member who is chasing the girl. In real life Minho doesn't stop until he wins and he hates to lose. He is good at almost every sport so he very rarely loses. :D But even he is no match for the "ice princess." Minho also has the deepest voice, so SM made him the group's main rapper, and Key is the lead rapper. (Key is also fluent in English, so you might notice that his rap style sounds a little more western.) But, because SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group, they were all trained in rapping. Now, SHINee have become known as one of the top groups that all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. They are one of the most well rounded groups in the industry. When it comes to SHINee the vocalists can rap and the rappers can sing. They are such a versatile group that on the rare occasion when one of the members is unable to participate in a performance because they were injured or busy, any of the other members could potentially be tapped to fill in for them -- all the members can cover all the parts of their songs. As SM's experimental boy group, everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from SHINee in any of their songs. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything from songs to dances to clothing, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted, there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. Next to R&B, I think Rock is SHINee's next best genre of music and they often do rock style remixes of their songs at their concerts. You should check out their rock version of "Amigo" at their first SHINee World Concert in 2011. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5C3mH6GgdKlgLs.

Replay is what got me into kpop. Jonghyun opened his mouth at 0:24 & I was snatched. I actually talked to him multiple times & he thought it was funny that he was the one person who changed my musical taste. I was a happy American teen listening to rap & some J-Rock...now I'm an obsessed Kpopper! Btw, I still know every word to Replay. My brain went to a dirty gutter when you said "Wanna be on top?" I said "Yes." Juliette was actually the very 1st dance practice that I ever watched. It's memorable for me because of 1. Jonghyun was hot asf & 2. Taemin's pink pencil leg jeans. TikTok wasn't a thing back then, but they posted the dance practice, because fans were asking for a tutorial. So future gens, thank SHINee for making dance practice videos a thing.

From Wikipedia: "In addition to meaning "friend" in Spanish, "Amigo" (Korean: 아.미.고; RR: a.mi.go) is a shortened version of the Korean phrase "You will suffer if you love the beautifulness" (Korean: 아름다운 미녀를 좋아하면 고생한다; RR: areumdaun minyeoreul joahamyeon gosaenghanda).[3] "Amigo" was choreographed by Misha Gabriel, an American dancer, choreographer, and actor.[4]"

Just to clarify, the one thing Wikipedia has wrong is that it sounds like they are saying that SHINee's "Amigo" also means friend. SHINee's song has nothing to do with the Spanish word for friend. Although it sounds like they are using the Spanish word, the song is not about being friends with anyone or anything. I think whomever wrote this entry kind of misspoke. Instead of saying "In addition to meaning 'friend,'" what they should have said is, "although it sounds similar to the Spanish word that means "friend," A.Mi.Go. in Korean has a different meaning ..."

The Korean version of "Love Like Oxygen" was released as the lead promotional track on SHINee's first full length album The SHINee World in August 2008. (Promoted alongside "Amigo" which was the lead track on their repackaged album.) It was their first release after their debut single "Replay" in May 2008. Fun fact: They also released a Japanese version of "Love Like Oxygen" in 2011 as part of the group's Japanese debut. Taemin had just turned 15 years old right before this MV was released. SHINee's level of professionalism and maturity was there from the very beginning -- there were only 2 or 3 months between "Replay" and "Love like Oxygen." :D It's just SHINee's style, they are constantly switching up the feel and vibe with every song you hear from them. As you may have noticed, you didn't hear Taemin sing very much in this song. In SHINee's early days Taemin didn't have a whole lot of lines in their songs. As you may know, people even used to make fun of Taemin's singing and they would say that he was tone deaf and couldn't sing. However, it's sort of a misconception that Taemin "couldn't sing." it wasn't that he couldn't sing, it was just that he debuted when he was so young -- he was only 14 years old -- that his voice hadn't really developed yet and he didn't really have a good grasp of how to use his voice and produce the sounds he wanted with it. So, in the beginning, when he sang he was often flat or his voice cracked or he was off key or out of tune, etc. And because he was being compared to the other members of SHINee who are all 2 to 4 years older than him, and the other members had such phenomenal voices to start out with, it really made Taemin sound like he was lacking. That's why in these first few songs you will see that he only has a few lines, and most of the time he was just given big solo dance breaks to fill the stage at his parts in the song. However, if he was really tone deaf he never would have become an SM Idol trainee -- SM would have put him on the dance track and probably steered him toward becoming a backup dancer -- and he definitely would have never become the amazing singer that he is today. Someone who is truly tone deaf is physically unable to hear the difference in the notes and is unable to carry a tune. But Taemin really wanted to prove to everyone that he wasn't just a dancer, so he spent a lot of extra time concentrating on vocal lessons and the other SHINee members -- especially Onew and Jonghyun -- spent some serious time coaching and mentoring him until he learned what it took to match their vocal range and to use his voice. If you notice, Taemin's style of singing, especially in SHINee songs, is a lot like Jonghyun -- SHINee's main vocalist, and one of the best vocalists in the industry. And once you watch more of SHINee, you will see that Taemin fills in for Jonghyun whenever Jonghyun was unable to participate in a performance. And even today, Taemin often takes over the high notes and the parts that I think would probably have been Jonghyun's parts in their new songs -- he has now become one of SHINee's main vocalists. Jonghyun was the one that really took Taemin under his wing and helped him to become the singer that he is today. So, many think that Taemin's voice emulates Jonghyun because he is the one that taught Taemin to sing. Jonghyun has always been Taemin's biggest supporter and the one that rooted for him the hardest and loudest out of anyone. Jonghyun is famous for that MJ growl and vocal cry that you heard in this song. And it's Jonghyun's vocals that pretty much shapes SHINee's style and sound. The one you hear with the high notes, long notes and adlibs in SHINee's songs most of the time is Jonghyun. SHINee is made up of some of the most unique voices in all of Kpop, so once you start to recognize their voices, you will never wonder who is speaking or singing ever again. Pretty much all Shawols will tell you the same thing -- we can recognize all their voices instantly no matter the situation and we don't even have to see their faces to know its them. That's how unique all of their voices are -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. One of the things SHINee are known for is their harmonies, and they have one of the best 5 part harmonies in the industry. That is one of the reasons why they are known as a top vocal group and why they are so admired by their peers. Their harmonies are unmatched. And this was baby SHINee, just imagine how good their harmonization has become now that their voices have matured. Just wait until you hear them live, now that they fully understand how to present the full range of their vocal color. :D You will be blown away. To sum up exactly what SHINee's style is: they are vocal powerhouses that create universally popular pop songs. :D When it comes to SHINee you can't expect anything except that it will be uniquely SHINee and probably one of the best songs and performances you will ever experience. Every song that SHINee has ever released is unlike any other and it won't sound or look like anything you have ever seen from them, including the songs on the same album. That's why they have such a big influence on the music industry, even from day one. SHINee's whole concept since debut is they are supposed to be SM's experimental boy group, so they are constantly making and setting trends. And songs like "Love Like Oxygen" are a good example of that. You wanna know what trends SHINee has started? Let's make a list: -- They are one of the first groups to start the trend of skinny colored jeans and form-fitting outfits that showed off their athletic psychics for male idols. Before SHINee, the trend was hip-hop style with baggy clothing that was 3 times too big. (SHINee started the boyfriend/student look.) Their fashion trends have been given the name "SHINee Trend." -- They were one of the first groups to have sharp precise synchronized dance moves and to show the world that they could sing live while performing complex choreography and sound flawless. Because of SHINee, everyone upped their standard when it comes to live performances and choreography. -- They were the very first group to release a dance practice video specifically so fans could see the full dance, and they were the first to have a dance practice video become a trending video online. They are the reason why dance practice videos are a thing today. -- Jonghyun was one of the first IDOLS to be recognized as a singer/songwriter, and to produce songs for not only himself and his group, but for other artists as well. Jonghyun was highly respected within the industry for his songwriting and composing skills and he was considered one of the most prolific artists of his generation. About 40% of SHINee's songs were wrote by him, as well as all of his own solo songs and several songs for other artists, such as EXO, Taemin, IU, Lee HI, etc. -- And SHINee pretty much starts almost every trend in the music industry when it comes to the sound and style of their music. And every song they release is expected to be something that has never been seen or heard before. Not only is it expected to be something they have never done before, but they are expected to come up with a sound and style that has never been done before in the entire music industry. The industry looks to SHINee to set the trends and to show them the next direction to take. And that continues still today even after more than 13 years in the industry. -- SHINee are also often the ones to start the next dance style or trend in the Kpop industry with their choreography. -- They were one of the first groups to use a world-famous choreographer to create their dance for their "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever. -- They are also the group that is most likely to appear on the first episode or on the pilot episode of a new variety show and it is said that it's good luck to have SHINee on the program first because that means it will be a success.

Love it! You are going to have so much fun with their haircuts going forward because they had every possible style under the sun back in the day. It's a whole roller-coaster 😂 It's also so much fun to see them grow up through the MVs again. They were just babies back then. Taemin only 14 when they debuted. This reaction is serving me nostalgia and I want to laugh cry vomit. I almost died when you said yall they went to hot topic!! I was 17 yrs old when shinee debuted and you know I took my kitchen scissor/razor blade bathroom scene haircut, and my emo green and black studded checker belt to the Chinese mall to buy their bootleg album. (Still have it to this day). As we go into another covid lockdown tomorrow, I'm spending my 31st birthday night watching your reactions. I wanna go back to when we all lived in a cheese grater 😭😭

"Juliette" is one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun. You might recognize the melody of the song because it was originally a song covered by the American singer/actor Corbin Bleu called "Deal with It." When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D As you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning. And Minho also wrote his rap section in the song. Minho has credits on almost all of SHINee's songs because he writes all his rap parts. This was also part of the era where SHINee started the trend of the colored skinny jeans. SHINee are known for their "school boy fashion/student look" and everyone started wearing colored skinny jeans at this time because of SHINee. They are even trendsetters when it comes to fashion. Never following trends, but always creating them in everything they do. :D It is safe to say that the original trend of colored skinny jeans in the west was probably a transplant from the trend that SHINee started. A lot of foreign idols over the years have told SHINee that the fashion trends they started in Korea were adopted by them in the U.S., Canada, China, Thailand, etc. That's how influential SHINee are. The glasses and masks they are wearing in this MV are crazy because they are supposed to be attending a sort of trendy version of a masquerade event like when Romeo and Juliet secretly meet each other at Juliet's family's costume masquerade ball. The SHINee boys are all supposed to be Romeo and they are searching for their Juliette (Who is played by Krystal from F(X), SHINee's sister group). As you discovered, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic high note style. Jonghyun is known for his MJ style cry and for sounding a little like Michael when he sings any of SHINee's classic R&B songs. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. During "Juliette" (and "Amigo"), Taemin was still growing into his voice, so he doesn't really have a whole lot of lines in the song, so instead they highlighted more of his dance skills. "Juliette" came out in 2009 (promoted alongside "Amigo" which was their repackaged album single), so Taemin was a year older than in "Replay" -- he was almost 16 years old here. Minho is 17 years old here. Key is also 17. Onew was 19 and Jonghyun had just turned 19. As with all of SHINee's MVs, if you really want to see their dancing, you have to check out their performance version MV -- which is designed to highlight the choreography -- or better yet, a live performance. Plus, there is nothing better than SHINee live. Check out their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) performance of "Juliette" (and "Amigo") from 2016. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmLUpaqrjM-Mpck Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette".

Thank you for taking this journey! Jonghyun & Onew are the oldest here at 18; Key and Minho are 16; Baby Taemin is just 14! Jonghyun started off the singing, then Onew was second followed by Key. Minho did the rap part and little Taemin couldn't sing at this stage because of immature vocal cords. However, he was usually in the center with the focal dance moves (wearing the "Wicked" shirt). I would suggest you react to a SHINee Guide like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maWsoWmOfKh-bac and then follow it up with a newer guide like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqu8Y6GbdtOIbpo

Landon please add Taemin's live performance of 'Sexuality' to your list. I think it's one of the most unbelievable performances to watch of him and it's just insane just how much he improved that he got to the point to transform from that bowl cut 14 year old boy to that machine in that particular performance. Mind blowing, really.

oh..well.. AMIGO in this song isn't meaning freinds.. In Korea, people play with sentences by picking up the first letters of each words in it for fun.. like slang. So, A.MI.GO is shorten version of "Areumdaun Minyeorul joahamyun Goseanghanda" which means "You will be go through suffering(hardship) if you like beautiful woman"..and also, this song's lyric contains a lot of those kind of slangs of teenagers generation at that time.
