Yea seriously, this video is a bit disingenuous. If anyone has ever hunted in gen 2 using this method, they know it's not for the faint hearted. The time it takes to get the eggs, and hatch the eggs makes this method comparable to modern day masuda method, but nowhere near as fast as the most modern hunts like in Arceus, SV, radar, or LGPE.

Time to be that guy and help those who are now hunting in GSC. The LOWEST shiny rate in those games via breeding is 1/64, but its a bit more complicated than just breeding with a 1/64 chance of a shiny. Because pokemons attack stat in gen 2 differs between genders (weirdly enough female pokemon of a species will always have a lower attack dv) some pokemon with different gender ratios have different chances. Theyre all still incredibly low, and some of them ARE 1/64 (ie genderless pokemon and pokemon who’s male/female ratio is 87.5/12.5 like the starters) but most others are higher like 1/256. Its also worth noting that the pokemon whos female ratio are 12.5 and are female can never be shiny because of their attack dv not being the right number for them to be shiny Yeah im a fuckin nerd 🤓

The gender ratio is irrelevant when breeding with Ditto. The baby always inherits Ditto’s IVs, no matter the gender.

This only matters if you are cross breeding the shiny gyarados with things like ekans, and then ekans with eevee to get a shiny eevee. A baby will inherit the DV of the opposite gendered parent. So you breed for an a female ekans. Since a baby will always be the same species of the mom. You need to breed that female ekan until you get a male ekans. The male ekans can then breed with a female eevee. But since eevee's are 7/8 male that one can't be a shiny but can still give birth to a male shiny eevee.

While in Scarlet&Violet you can hatch around 80 eggs an hour, in gen2 you can hatch around 8 eggs an hour

The reason that Ditto becomes shiny is because when it uses Transform, while already transformed into your shiny Gyarados, the Ditto copies your Gyarados's DVs onto itself, replacing its original DVs.

In my younger years, I had a shiny Venonat in FireRed. I had caught a shiny Wingull in Pearl or Diamond. When HeartGold and SoulSilver was still new, I had caught a shiny Rhyhorn in FireRed in the Safari Zone. I did this without a shiny charm. I even caught more in Let's Go Pikachu without the charm than I did with it. I'm playing Silver and haven't seen one yet. I don't truly care since I'm grinding my Pokemon to level 32 for the Pryce fight since I have a Level 32 Eevee trying to evolve it into Umbreon.

However, I have one more DS Lite now, so at maximum I could triple hunt this with all three Sinnoh DS games in my possession. I have two now, Diamond and Pearl. Total counted resets is 1588 but bear in mind I’ve been doing this for a long time. Very spread-out hunt.

@Seven251 I have only ever shiny hunted 5 shiny eevees in Gen 2 so I could do a playthrough with a full shiny eevelution team. Playing only 1 to 2 hours a day, it took me a month of resets to get a shiny male. It took me 2 weeks of hatching eggs with a traded female eevee to get the other 4.

Lyra made a Website actually mentioned that in a video and explained why it takes so long. Apparently the main reason is because Pokémon require a certain amount of steps, typically a large amount, just to get a single egg.

Gen 2 is by far the easiest to shiny hunt in. Back when GSC came out on 3DS, I shiny hunted every non legendary in about a month. Very easy. Gen 3 is by far the hardest to shiny hunt in.

I strongly disagree. Gen 3 (RSE) has RNG manips which can take a while to get used to. But once you're comfortable with the timing, gen 3 hunts take way less time than a Gen 2 hunt could ever dream of

So I’ve been doing the shiny ditto breeding trick for the past 8 months. I JUST now realized that you can use your shiny ditto in any Gen 2 game to quite literally turn every single wild encountered normal ditto into a shiny… once it uses transform twice on your shiny ditto it turns into a legit shiny ditto

So unfortunately no it can not work this way because the wild normal ditto needs to use transform twice on your shiny ditto in order for it to copy the “shiny stats” your shiny ditto has in order for it to become a legitimate shiny. So once the wild ditto uses transform on your shiny gyrados it becomes the gyrados with the moveset your gyrados has and thus loses the ability to transform the second time which is crucial for it to become a legit shiny

Just going to throw a theory to why the shiny ditto glitch works. I believe transform creates a copy of your pokemon stats and DV's that it transforms into, however once it's used again on the same pokemon, it replaces the original transformed Pokemon's DV's to it's own, as it was never intended to be able to transform twice with the same Pokemon, or maybeit gets confused because the new pokemon DVs are the same as it's own since it transformed, so it takes the other set as it's own.

i did a team of shiny eevee with this method PROTIP: use the BOX clone glitch on anything that can evolve the nature/stats all change depending on level into bank/home so as long as all your eevee are different levels they will all be unique (not clones) upon transfer

I used the mystery egg to get a 14% chance shiny smoochum which is always female and use that pokémon to trade jynx back to generation 1 and then had a ditto copy those DVs I don't remember the exact math right now but breeding pokémon with an 87.5 % to 12.5% gender ratio doesn't give you the one in 64 odds unless you have a ditto with DVs specific for having a male or female being shiny this is also why red Gyarados is always male? I think? idk it's late and I did this years ago

Underrated channel. Also some extra tips, you might wanna get a mic stand so you don't have to hold the mic the whole time. I'd also recommend putting your ring light a bit higher up so it's not reflecting off of your glasses when you look up. Good luck man. You're gonna blow up if you keep it up.

When I was a kid I got Pokemon Gold and a gameboy color my 5th birthday. I played that game every single day for hours and hours and hours. I also got Silver and Crystal and played those too. I never knew what Shiny Pokemon were and my adhd was so bad that I would be so focused and intent on just getting through the battle that I never really noticed certain Pokemon had stars fly off them. Idk how I didnt realize some were special I just didnt and never really thought much into it. not sure if this works or not... but I did some research on egg groups gyardos is water 2 and dragon so from there you can breed with an ekans which id dragon and field. and from there you can breed into the field egg groups which give you access to water 1, monster, flying, ect. and you can move shiny DV's around to a variety of pokemon. This is my plan to get a shiny swinub :D assuming it works

This works well when you're shiny hunting when you're shiny hunting. You can walk with the egg in your party while shiny hunting in the tall grass, caves, water, and interiors. Sexy method boosting your shiny odds greatly. 👍👍👍👍👍

All the old glitches exist in the VC games. You can use the coin case glitch to get an early, extra Celebi in Gen 2, as well.

It's actually usually a 1 in 128 chance. The 1 in 64 chance only comes into play if you're using a Ditto, or the non-shiny you're using's gender ratio is 87.5/12.5.

You can actually get almost all gen 1 and 2 pokemon through this method WITHOUT the need of the shiny ditto, its just a lot longer and require you to look up egg groups Basically have the shiny gyarados (or shiny odd egg mon) breed with any other mon from a compatible egg group, if the shiny breeding mon is a male it'll be a little easier to start, as to get another species of shiny the shiny breeding cant be female as the species of egg will always be of the female pokemon Basically if shiny breeding pokemon is FEMALE just breed them until u get a shiny MALE offspring, and replace the female with that This obviously leads to a rabbit hole of sorts as when you get a shiny male egg of another species that also has a 2nd egg group you can use that as the breeding pokemon and start hatching new species Only reason id see anyone doing this though is if they, 1. Don't have access to trading or a gen 1 game or 2. Feel like the shiny ditto glitch is cheating Only issues with this arise with pokemon in the "gender-unknown" as the ones that are breedable can ONLY breed with ditto

@@youngmachosavage Yes as long as you have a female ponyta and breed down a male sentret and put both of em in the daycare the gene should pass down and give you lower odds, basically just figure out what egg group the pokemon you want is in and domino effect breed shinies till you get one in the same group but for your example, yes, youre completely correct

But late of a response, but the ‘limitation’ of using the Gyarados or Odd Egg shiny is because of how stats pass on when breeding. If Ditto’s involved, Ditto is always the stat source. If it isn’t, then the stat source is from the opposite gender parent. So if you use LoR Shiny Gyarados and a female Ekans, the hatched Ekans will only get the ‘shiny gene’ from Gyarados if the egg hatches female. You’d then use the female egg and a wild male to hatch a male egg. The male egg can then pass the shiny gene to anything in the Dragon or Field Egg groups.
