Former New Miyako of Hankyu Ferries when she was still in Japan. She was sold to WG&A in 1996 and renamed as M/V SuperFerry 12 of WG&A SuperFerry. After Negros Navigation bought out ATS, she was later renamed as M/V St. Pope John Paul II

I rode this ship in 2018 while we go to Cagayan de oro to see my cousins, It was super fun and so nostalgic, and especially to horizon cafe we always eat in that restaurant every meals.

Exactly with late Babalu also in his last film appearance since he passed away at that same year, 1998. And based on the parody of Paramount and Disney's 20th Century Studios film' Titanic, which was released in the Philippines that same year. Although with its Pinoy comedy slapstick twist because of Babalu and Dolphy starred in this movie.

I'm very proud of i was one of crew of WG&A for many years started from M/V Our LADY of NAJU, SF-5,SF-14, SF-15 and one of my friend and co crew from SF-5 was promoted to supervisor for SF-12 and every my vaction onboard SF-12 as a passenger Mnl-cebu, cebu-Mnl. No offense to Japanese Ro/Ro enthusiasts, but European Ro/Ro designs are still the best in the world. I saw one that docked in Florida, USA (P & O, forgot the exact name). It was built in 2009 as a Ro/Pax vessel and it was really beautiful inside and out.

Yep that's the Superferry 12 where Dolphy, Babalu, Lilia Cuntapay and Zsa Zsa Padilla and the Other cast members of Tataynic (Pinoy comedy parody of Titanic starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DeCaprio) was originally filmed in 1998, since Babalu had a severe illness at that time, until his death in August, 1998 making his final film appearance.

I noticed that most ships in 2go was converted from having a bow visor feature. I first noticed this when I was still in grade school while aboard SF 15 or 16 sisters. I first noticed the "city line" embossed logo painted over in white and then this weld line on the bow in the shape of a visor. Doing research and looking for images of the vessel before she was either SF15 or 16, Both vessels did feature bow visors. Even the newly acquired Hankyu Sisters now 2go maligaya and masagana has bow visors. Looking at the aerial footage, I didn't know SF12/St. Pope John Paul II had a bow visor.... I'm assuming from those two white ridges on the bow that it's part of the hinge mechanism. If not then I'm mistaken. But if yes. Then an interesting discovery. 😁
