thats what i did. started out in one depeartment and my second contract i cross trained in another and completed my contract in the department i cross trained in and was there until i left. it also depends on your manager, some managers dont allow cross training because they want to keep the status quo

Hi Sean, I have another question for you, how important is your nationality when it comes to get a job or being promoted? I'm from México and my goal is to get to the engine department, not to get stuck to a cleaning position. Thanks again and keep your great work!
@CoffeeWithSean5 жыл бұрын
Javier Eyel Bürgueño there is no discrimination for jobs. It’s about experience. Just apply and apply until you get it! Good luck!

So do you think it's possible to cross training to the electrical/engine department (maybe assistant electrician) being a, for example, public area attendant (obviously having previous experiencie or background)? Thanks for the video it really helped me.
@CoffeeWithSean5 жыл бұрын
Javier Eyel Bürgueño I would do one full contract as you main job and prove you are good on ships. Then in your second contract communicate constantly with your managers and the electrical dept and bug then to let you shadow

Hey man , your channel is great and videos are really helpful ! As I prepare for my first contract in the entertainment department as a lounge technician on the RCL , I received great amount of insight, advices and info about working and living on the ship. I have one question though - how is the process of ordering stuff from the internet, amazon or e bay ? I mean, can you purchase an item and get it delivered on the ship and how much does it take ? I plan to buy new laptop when I embark on the ship, so was wondering how its done.. Anyways, keep up the good work and wish you all the best, you are a great guy ! : )
@CoffeeWithSean6 жыл бұрын
You can definitely order stuff from Amazon. You will have it delivered the the port address. Your ship will have an address that you'll know it to be sent to. What the companies do, they have all the stuff sent to a single location. then they load pallet full of the crews' ordered stuff. Then they will deliver the pallets to the ship. Because they wait until they have full pallet, and because your ship maybe in a very different place that the location in which you sent your orders, it may take 2 months before you get your item from amazon. You also will have to pay for internet minutes (unless you're in port) in order to make the order. Lots of costs and steps in the process. Honestly, if you're allowed off the ship in a port with some electronics store, I suggest going to an actual store and buying a computer in person. I have heard of several occasions of crew members ordering stuff online, but their contract ends before their order even arrives on the ship. Big hassle.

Hi Sean! I have been offered a few contracts as a bar waiter/ bartenders by recruiter. I would then have to go through the interview process. I have more experience for this role. I have applied nearly exclusively for photography/videography jobs as this is where I want to work but I don't have a lot of experience. Would you suggest for me to accept one of these other contracts in the hopes of cross training for a photography job or should I continue applying for photography jobs. I have heard back from a few cruise lines/photography companies that provide the cruise lines with photographers and they say I don't have enough experience but feel free to apply again when I have gained the experience. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Kate
@CoffeeWithSean5 жыл бұрын
Kate Hynes I would say go for it, but those departments are so different it wouldn’t really help you to hope to move over to photo. Plus, while you’re bartending, how would you gain more photo experience? I say spend 6 month with a camera taking photos and put together some sort of portfolio. Then tell them you’re ready!

I know this is a little off topic but I've been having trouble finding the answer. Is there a barber job on the ships?
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
kelly michaels Yes, but for my ships it was a different company in the Spa. The spa company for NCL is called Steiner. The first girl I dated on ships was a barber haha

Thanks for the video, I really cant apply for the jobs I want because i'm coming form a third world country, we are only offered, chefs, bartering and cleaning positions. So you see my dilemma. I am going in as a commis 2 tho. I guess its because of my experience and qualifications.

You have an excellent way with words, it isn't easy speaking for 20 minutes at a time and maintain a great passion! Thinking of joining a cruise ship and applying specifically as a bartender. Searched online for videos of cruise ship bartenders but the only thing i could find was flair bartending. I have 2 years in a 4 star hotel at the moment. Is there anything you can tell me about bartending onboard that i wouldn't find online?
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
dkane411 You just have to be prepared to work for 10 hours at a time. Bartenders on cruise ships work a lot. And actually, the casino is open all night so you may be working all night sometimes. It can be rough working such crazy hours. And a lot of cruise lines do drink packages so the money making for bartenders had changed a little bit. But I think you should give it a go and if you like it, keep on doing it. And if you don’t, at least you have it a try.

Hey Sean, what is it like for people working in IT on a cruise ship?
@CoffeeWithSean6 жыл бұрын
Sky Net all the IT team on my ships were manager level. So they all had their own private cabins. And they had full passenger privilege. However; they worked a lot and I never really saw them at crew bar. But that also could have been cuz they were all a little older than me. They were all in their mid to late 30s

How is accomodation for Electrical Engineer / Electrical Officer / ETO.
@CoffeeWithSean6 жыл бұрын
Yash Yennam The engineers and officers get their own cabin. Usually with a window and a queen size bed. There is a chance, however, that you work crazy hours. Sometimes overnight. But I think it’s worth it because you have a much better living situation.

Hi Sean! Thank you so much for all your videos, they had help me tons! This Monday I am doing my medical exam and Tuesday doing my TWIC card then hopefully off to Piney Point for MCC, so excited! Joining the pride of America for NCL! Do you now the boarding eta after doing you TWIC card? Thanks again!!
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Peter Zelaya the TWIC is the hardest to get so I bet once you get it you’ll be onboard within a month. My old parter is on that ship. She is a broadcast technician. Her name is Jessica Krannitz. See if she is still onboard when you get there. Tell her “hey” for me!

Sean Price I will definitely say hi on your behalf! Very exited and looking forward my first contract! I don’t think I’ll have any issues getting the TWIC card since I’m a “Global Entry” card holder! Your channel is very informative, thank you!

Hey Sean! Got another question for you! I was given my official contract today & when I was hired it was for 6 months but the email I got today said I was invited to a training course &the contract says March 13-23. I was curious if after these 10 days do you think I'll head to another ship or do I go back home & wait for another contract? I just really don't want to be without work Thank you
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Phillips Who hired you? What cruise line? And what country are you in?
@kaitlin84416 жыл бұрын
Sean Price Hey Sean, I went through a recruiting agency in Canada who directed me to Princess Cruise Line for the role of Junior Hotel Manager. Both the recruiting agency & Princess said it would be 6 months but the email today March training course which is the 13-23rd.
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Phillips Because I am from the US I never went though an agency. I was hired directly from NCL. I have never heard of a pre-contract training like that. All trainings are onboard the ship during your first contract, at least all mine were. I would reach out to Princess and double check that e-mail if it’s legit. It sounds like a fake scam to me. I assume all your contract stuff should be from Princess and all your paperwork should be through them now. With that said, that training can only be legit if they are paying for everything. Flights; hotels, everything. If they aren’t paying for every single thing that’s a big red flag.
@kaitlin84416 жыл бұрын
Oh how lucky! That takes out a whole extra step. I wasn't sure if this was maybe something only hotel staff have to do. This is thankfully a real contact (They have official Princess crew links, email, signatures, etc.). I was just confused on the training course being 10 days but I was offered a 6 month contract in the start. Here's to hoping my training course leads straight into a 6 month contract so I don't have to go home & not work. Good luck to the USA women tonight against us!
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Kaitlin Phillips Yeah, maybe Princess works a little different. Your 6 month contract should have dates on it. And it should have come with plane flight info. Keep a keen eye out and be wary of things that seem to good to be true. Good luck! Tell me all about it when you’re on board!

Would u work in cruise ships again??
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Kashish Madan I have thought about it. At this point I have a good job on land and I am starting to look into things that ships would make difficult. Serious relationships, buying a house, etc. there are stages in life that ships are perfect for and at this point I probably wouldn’t go back. But I do see I’ll look up jobs and I do still miss it.
